I lost my job speaking out internally about the selling of expired items and harrasment of employee's. Now I will speak out Publically on the Infractions of General Manager Jeff Wells and Merchadise Manager Renee Heick.
Upon bring the issues of harrasment and expired items up at our recent montly meeting, I was pulled aside afterwards and told by General Manager Jeff Wells that "expired items are at every store and its up to the customers to make sure of there dates".
also Merchadiser Renne Heick said " most people dont even look at the dates and if they do while eating them most wont get sick and or return to tell you about it."
I routinely through out my employment with Flying J's sought to see that you did receive expired items from working thrid shift and pulling 50-75 items every now and then as it was noticed the merchadiser was not doing there job to insure your safety. and I even went to the extent to when items were brought to my register to tell customers that a certain item might not be the one they wish to purchase and show them the date. I have done so on 5 occasions prevented the sale of expired item at the register and after that I brought it up at our meeting where there was by the General Manager and Merchandiser no true concern for the public and what sickness that could be incurred by digestion of expired milks, hot dogs from cooler, expired foutain syrups, expired bread, expired dry goods and the uncautious allowment of molded items to be present for sale. I have a documented letter where the Merchadiser in front of the General Manger while she was sick opened a loaf of bread where she should have sent it back and pulled damaged peices out while sick and instructed me to put it on the shelf, I was cursed verbally for not doing so in which after being cursed and told by General Manager that I was to listen to her as if she was my boss I did place bread behind many loaves to avoid confrontation as she had already verbally assualted me, after she left early for the day because she was sick, I asked the General Manager if he wanted the bread on the shelf and he said "no" but even heard and saw the incident as it occured in the bread being opened but did nothing until i made it a plight. whereas the next day I presented him a letter of all of this where he advertantly lied and said to me that "he was testing her." But, if testing an employees safety regulations? and they failed? what was done? evidently nothing as it became a greater issue with the growth of expired products being on the shelves with fresh products and being brought to the counter for purchase. Where as in March a customer returned a milk he purchased that was sold to him which was 5 days beyond the expiration date where a record by return receipt was made. I was working that day and the cashier who sold him the milk was made to issue the return and I made sure the customer put on the receipt the reason of return and it was stated in big pen wrighting "OUT OF DATE" I cant believe I ever worked under such sorry persons as Jeff Wells, Renee Heick and Angela Folding. I am writing this to inform you of there blantant disregard for pulling expired items because if they waste them, they cant sale them and it reflects on there sales by wasting expired items. YOU NEED TO KNOW THE TRUTH, upon request I will send to you a copy of the letter where the merchadiser exposed a loaf a bread while sick and put her hands inside it pulling slices out and sealing it up. such is nasty, and she did so without gloves.

sounds as if you are mad because you lost your job
Isn't there somewhere you can lodge a proper complaint to get action I mean there should be someone who controlls such items over the immediate personnel.

Misty, I wrote negatively a bit and it imply's more madness than actually is. I'm sadden more than anything that I was terminated wrongfully, I was mad, but, I didnt lie about anything presented, just tied in to the negativity that i reiceived and it really just has turned from negative to positive, I've contacted the Health Department and Have contacted the Federal Trade Commission about the matter of expired,breached, and molded items that have been displayed for sale at this Commerce facility. I know by those agencies pressing on them to produce adequate
products that things will become better.

Call the the Department of Agriculter in your state if you ever work for some place that does that. Even if you are not the Department that handles that in your state the can tell you who to contact. They can make a suprise inspection and catch it. If they are caught to many time selling out of date items the do have the right to close the doors of the store until they feel like they have take care of what it takes is the problem

I normally post on the dayton TN site. I just happened to pop over here because I will be in town next week. This is so pathetic. You people want to fuss...call the Dept. of Ag. Especially with all the problems Ga is having with there food preparations. What are you guys thinking?

Rhea raised, The reason you call the department of Agriculture is to report a business that is
commiting viable act that could harm consumers.
I know I dont want to pay full price for something
that is expired and I shouldnt have to be subject to buy it period. Why dont you just stay in Tennesee, we dont need people like you coming through our state much less our cities and counties.

I am in the trucking business. I've been to truck stops all over the country. They all and I mean all of them have a real hard time staying open these days. Yes it's wrong, eal wrong to sell food items that have an expiration date on them. Does that date mean that on and from that date on the item is bad. No. If the items you witnessed the flyig-J you worked at were only a few days out dated well that's onbe thing. But, if those items were say a week or more out dated and the cooler or where ever those items were kept could have caused those items to not be good, then you were in the right to sp[eak out. The best thing for you to have done would have been to just call the Franklin County Health department and put a bug in their ear to drop in and check it out and no one would have known it was you. Tonight I have a driver staying at that Flying-J. He is going to go in and randomly check some of the items and see if they are still folloing that practice of using expired iems. If they are then he will take photos and we both will notify the proper authorities. If they are and you still want your job back, you have a good case. That is unless there is something else they may have let you go for that you haven't disclosed here.
