I witnessed something truly horrible today that made me sick to my stomach. There was a coach pitch baseball tournament here in De Leon and these boys range in ages from 5-8. When De Leon played each other the sportsmanship was awful!! There was a problem with the umpire and one coach lost his cool and would not just leave it alone and let the boys play and was removed from the game. Well that same team's fans kept it up and would not be quite the whole time while all these boys are looking on, as well as a group from Hamilton. Now what does that teach our boys and what does that say about our town when two teams from the same town can not have a decent game without bashing each other. The sportsmanship of the parents of that team was awful!! It is just a game and if they win they win no big deal. The thing is though that the actions of those parents caused the children of that team to do the same and they are going to school and telling the losing team they suck and crap. These boys deserve to be treated better. Yeah they might of lost but they played and that in itself is wonderful and most of these little boys played hard and do not deserve to be called losers. I wonder how that winning team would feel if they lose and were called losers!! These parents take this shit way to serious, just let them be kids and have FUN!! They have plenty of time to grow up later.....

I coached peewee basketball in DeLeon a few years ago. There were several parents I wanted to throw out or completely ban from the game.
To begin with, I felt like an unpaid babysitter. When I would show up to open the gym, there would be several girls waiting. When I would ask how long they had waited, I was told they were dropped off more than an hour ago (I was early to every practice, never late). These same parents that dropped their kids off early never showed to pick the kids up. The kids were told to walk home. Some lived a mile or more away and it was dark when practice ended. Of course I took them home rather than take a chance on something happening to these kids.
Then, after the game, the parents would come up and tell me everything I did wrong. I would tell them that if they want to help they should come to practice and I would gladly accept their help. None ever showed.
I could write a book about the horror stories with parents. There were a couple of incidents that I reported to CPS because the parent assaulted the child after the game.
I thought maybe this was just DeLeon until I coached in Dublin. It was actually worse there.
Despite all of the issues, I loved coaching those kids.

I have coached a couple of peewee teams myself here in De Leon and I agree some of the parents can get really stupid. I just wish they could let their children have fun. I mean it would be different if they were even in middle school but we are talking pretty much babies here. This is suppose to be their learning years.

I agree some of the parents did get a little carried away. However, it had nothing to do with who they were playing. Look at it from a different perspective, the boys had battled there way back all day with that being there 5th game of the day, just to get an umpire who in the very first inning started making unfair calls. That is what upset the parents! Knowing just how hard those boys worked to get to that game.

I am curious to know how that team went to school calling the other team "loosers" and "crap" when school is out for the summer.

This happens some time. These are not major league refs. These are guys making extra money. Sometimes they make the wrong call. It's no excuse for the parents' reaction.
Yes, it is frustrating for parents and children alike. But, these are children and it is a game. At some point, kids have to learn that life is not fair. They need to learn sportsmanship regardless of the fairness of the calls.
Obviously, the kids will never learn sportsmanship and how to handle adversity with parents that act like this.

I think this problem is in just about in every sport kids play in. I am personally guilty of that kind of behavior with my boys racing. There was this big mouth mother that could not keep her trap shut when it came to running the kids and their parents down. She would shot the bird and stick her tongue out at the kids. I finally had enough of it and went after her one day, needless to say right as I went knock the crap out of her one of the kids walked by and I realized what an idiot I was being. She did get the point though and kept away from me and kept that big mouth of hers shut.

If you have a digital camera, people should just take videos of these selfish, irresponsible loser parents and post them on youtube. Let everyone see how they really are. Easy to do and gets a lot of satisfaction.
