Heard that it's being fixed up to be reopened as hotel again. Anyone know if this is true, or why it has been getting renovated? I appreciate all replies.

I don't think it's true. I think it's now privately owned and is being remodeled for that owner to live in.

Thank you for that response. There was a news paper article some time later, after I asked this, and it stated that it was privately owned and would be a private residence. I had a feeling it might have been a rumor that's why I asked. Would have been nice if it was turned into a hotel. They sure need jobs around here.

Any updated news on this? The place would make a great Bed and Breakfast.

formerkygirl I saw an article in a local paper after I posted this and it stated just as Anonymous had said, above, that it was being refurbished for private use. I totally agree it would have made a wonderful Bed and breakfast, or even just a motel, since we have none locally.Just the same I'm glad it isn't an eyesore anymore.

Before the remodel crizzz89 I would agree it did appear to be rather creepy looking. The place evidently was left in despair. I peeked in one day,a few years back, and despite it's sad state, I could see that at one time, the place, was most likely very nice. I remember saying to myself what a shame it was left to rot, and hoped one day someone would fix it up. I was happy to see that someone indeed did.

Finding much information on the town itself, with the exception of anything to do with the civil war era is very difficult. I tried finding information on the structure a few years ago. Seems most links only lead to why the area was called the Iron Banks, or how it came to be called such. Apparently I can find more information on Columbus Ohio than, Columbus Ky lol! Finding the right key words in a search can take a great deal of time and reading. Particularly on this subject, as I have found. I do know that the town many years ago was thriving, with commerce, and a far larger population then today. When the rail roads cease to run through the area, and the ferry stopped operating, the town began to go in a downfall. The state park appears to be the only thing left from the days of glory to a once thriving little town.

It has been completely remodeled. It's my understanding from word of mouth, that some of the rooms can be rented out. However I've had no valid conformation of this. I did catch something in a local paper sometime ago along those lines. But the information, with regards to this was very limited, in that the article was technically about something else, with a mention to in there about the Iron Banks Hotel. Maybe its more for renting rooms during certain events, such as the Civil War days? At least that's my guess. But I don't know for sure. Perhaps someone else will know and include that information further along in the comments. I'm kinda curious myself.

I can confirm that it is haunted!!! I was in there either in 2008 or 2009 and vowed I would never go back!! Doors closed on their own and I just had a feeling of dread the whole time I was there. A friend took a pic from the outside and you can see a person standing in the second floor window!! Just a crazy scary place. But, my husband just sent me a pic of the place, totally renovated. I watched a short youtube video and it does appear to now be open to the public. Thinking seriously about trying to spend a night there lol

The refurbishment is finished and it has become a Bed & Breakfast, Iron Banks Lodge. The website is pretty good.
