There won't never be another Waylon but I am glad to see him doing good. Least he don't ride his daddy's coattails like Hank Jr did.

Shooter is an excellent act to help cultivate a music scene in Columbus. His style of music attracts younger listeners looking for a truer country sound and older southern rock skynyrd fans.
Hope y'all can build a base around this style of music and attract more artists to your town.

Well a big name act like Jennings is always good to have come to town, and will no doubt influence the local talent, as did Bob Dylan when he played here a decade ago and sent the local music scene into the folk-rock direction it's been on ever since, the focus is and will remain on the /local/ talent to be found right here, but out of towners coming through.

Unfortunately, the "local talent" consists of open mic nights and musical hobbyists, at least from what I've heard.
It would be fantastic to have big name professional musicians playing hear every weekend, I think many more people would enjoy it.

Well, I take it you missed Hogbottom this year, the only local festival with all local talent...

24 local performers and bands played, and raised what appears to be over $10,000 for a LOCAL cause, not shipping the money out to out of town Carpetbaggers:

A note from Dave to all those who participated in Hogbottom this year, on
all levels.

"I just wanted to offer my appreciation for you and the guys playing at
Hogbottom? again this year. We had the biggest crowd ever with at least 900
through the gate and after the tally is in, I fully expect we will be well
over our goal of $10,000 for the House of Heroes! Please pass along my
thanks to the others. Ya'll were great! God Bless You. And coming sooner
that I want to think about, Hogbottom 9!" -Dave Pattillo

I am very happy you enjoyed your local festival, and your right, its not my thing anymore. Just more of the "same old same old" that I listened to for years locally. Not much really changes.
Professional musicians are not carpetbaggers, they are just that, professional musicians who happen to make music for a living.
Shooter Jennings is a much better quality musician than anyone local and I will certainly go to his show because I am tired of the "same old same old" local amateurs playing music. Hey, if its what flips your switch then have at it. Enjoy yourself.
Myself and others will wait for quality musicians and bands and go to those events and shows.
I want more of that for Columbus and East Alabama.

And since you obviously didn't even attend the festival, you pretty much have to admit you're just whining constantly about something you have no clue about, am I right, Panther?

There are dozens of local, talebted musicians who are professional... and as long as you attent to put across false facts that there are not, I hope to be here to follow behind you and your ilk and set your falsehoods straight.

Out-Of-Town talent = Carpetbaggers, taking money and venues away from the local talent.

Wow, I am out of practice here!

Excuse all those typos, please, Panther... And sorry, didn't mean to come down on you so hard, just gets really old to see folks like you posting these statements and obviously showing you have no clue about the local music scene.

Good to see you back, my friend!

You are the one with no clue.
I go out every weekend all over this area to listen, I am a music lover. Josh has clued me in on some good acts at the Loft that I went to see, they weren't local Will.
The really talented of Columbus move on, that's a fact. All that remains are those not good enough to move on. Its like that in many places and no exclusive to the Columbus area.

No, I have a "clue", indeed it is more than a clue, but your grudge against the local music scene talents has been obvious for months.

And then there was your silly whining about local festivals such as Doo-Nanny and Hogbottom charging an admission to the shows.

Yet I know you'll be shelling out to see some out-of-town performer, eh?

That's fine, that's your choice, but when you continue to post slurs and falsehoods about the under rated local talents of Columbus-Phenix City, I hope to be here to set your fake judgements straight and make the truth available, for observers to decide for themselves on.

And if this is just going to be an endless "Mobius Wheel" of your misrepresentations and my corrections and facts... then so be it.

We can continue this as long as we need to.

I've known Shooter for almost as long as I've known you, Will. He's a great dude and hands down the nicest I've met in the industry (even though I know him outside of music). I'm happy to have him in my own hometown.

The great thing about it is, he's done A LOT for the local music scene here in Columbus despite having never performed here. He's promoted Joey Allcorn (local country singer-songwriter) heavily on his radio show since hearing his music about 2-3 years ago as well as having him appear in his "Outlaw You" video. Besides that, he's tweeted SEVERAL shows of mine that I've had booked over the past 2 years including at Del Ranch last year.

Friday will be great having him perform on Broadway with Jonathan Tyler & The Northern Lights, Chris Stapleton, Damon Johnson, Sister Hazel, and others.

Great to see you, Josh, been a "minute", as the young folks say.

I've never met Shooter but am somewhat aware of him and he does seems like a nice guy.

And again, I have no problem with big name stars coming to town for shows, such as when Bob Dylan played here a few years ago, everyone I know from the local music scene was there, cheering him on.

Out of big name stars currently touring, I'd love to see Rodriguez, and both the Davies Brothers, Ray and Dave (The Kinks) are also out touring this Summer, seperate solo tours... I'd pay, and travel to Atlanta, Birmingham or Macon to see them, but it would be cooler if Columbus could once again be a host for some major names like Chris Blackwell had rolling here in the 1980s.

Who knows, maybe your efforts are leading back to that direction..?
