Indeed.

"Herein is a poet...And lots of other things, lots of other things." -Johnny Cash

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jack_Kerouac

"Jean-Louis "Jack" Kerouac (pron.:/ˈkɛr uːæk/ or /ˈkɛr&#6 29;æk/; March 12, 1922 – October 21, 1969) was an American novelist and poet. He is considered a literary iconoclast and, alongside William S. Burroughs and Allen Ginsberg, a pioneer of the Beat Generation.[2] Kerouac is recognized for his spontaneous method of writing, covering topics such as Catholic spirituality, jazz, promiscuity, Buddhism, drugs, poverty, and travel. Kerouac became an underground celebrity and, with other beats, a progenitor of the hippie movement, although he remained antagonistic toward some of its politically radical elements. Since his death Kerouac's literary prestige has grown and several previously unseen works have been published. All of his books are in print today, among them: On the Road, Doctor Sax, The Dharma Bums, Mexico City Blues, The Subterraneans, Desolation Angels, Visions of Cody, The Sea is My Brother, and Big Sur..."

"...Kerouac is generally considered to be the father of the Beat movement, although he actively disliked such labels. Kerouac's method was heavily influenced by the prolific explosion of Jazz, especially the Bebop genre established by Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie, Miles Davis, Thelonious Monk, and others. Later, Kerouac included ideas he developed from his Buddhist studies that began with Gary Snyder. He often referred to his style as spontaneous prose[citation needed]. Although Kerouac’s prose was spontaneous and purportedly without edits, he primarily wrote autobiographical novels (or Roman à clef) based upon actual events from his life and the people with whom he interacted. Many of his books exemplified this spontaneous approach, including On the Road, Visions of Cody, Visions of Gerard, Big Sur, and The Subterraneans. The central features of this writing method were the ideas of breath (borrowed from Jazz and from Buddhist meditation breathing), improvising words over the inherent structures of mind and language, and not editing a single word (much of his work was edited by Donald Merriam Allen, a major figure in Beat Generation poetry who edited some of Ginsberg's work as well). Connected with his idea of breath was the elimination of the period, preferring to use a long, connecting dash instead. As such, the phrases occurring between dashes might resemble improvisational jazz licks. When spoken, the words might take on a certain kind of rhythm, though none of it pre-meditated..."

If Keroauc was still alive and left a basket of laundry at a coin Op you would take it home and examine it wouldn't you. You know every detail about Keroauc. You talk about him every day several times a day. Why? Why do you want to promote keroauc all the time. You do this even more than a Scientologist or a Jehovah Witness promotes their religion. Explain why you are making Keroauc part of your life every day.
No, your reading comprehension problem is showing again, my anonymous, trollish little friend.

The subject of Jack Kerouac came up at the start of this thread, with one of the performers announced being named Zach Kerouac:

Yeah, Aaron plays new wave at 85 on tuesdays, but 146 guys aren't really actively performing their stuff right now (to my knowledge). If we get a good response to the drum and bass this friday, then the next logical step would be to discuss getting them in to perform, which hypothetically could happen as early as March, or not at all, it just depends. Anyway, if you know any people that are into electronic music, spread the word that we have a weekly locked in. Hopefully, they will already know from our flyer campaign. Gallery 13 is committed to growing the audience for electronic music, the rest of Columbus is unfortunately at the whim of the mediocre-music-liking bar crowd and you won't hear Taylor Swift or Gaga at Gallery.
Variety is good for the local music scene, and glas to see y'all are making strides towards the new dirctions in music, Kerouac.

Kudos.

I'll try to make it other nights, but to be quite honest, I've got no real interest in electronic music. Eduardo is one of my dudes though, I hung out with him last night in fact, and I know that he's a hell of a DJ. I don't recognize any of the other names on the list, are any of them from the 146 crew or whatever it is? Just curious. I know a couple of those guys have a weekly gig at one of the bars downtown that I frequent.
Hold up, this has passed already.

Josh, do you have any info on the venue now where Gallery 13 used to be?

Hogbottom Farm in Fort Mitchell has the music festival, though.

How is the music scene in Hamilton?

Maybe Kerouac founded the expertise
Jack Kerouac's influence can be seen in almost any artform, almost any aspect of the hipster culture that followed him.

The absurd, the surreal, is a major part of the art, and the outsider art events like Doo-Nanny celebrates, so you did get that part right. If this isn't to your taste, of course you might consoder it in your opinion to not be good.

Other main elements you may have missec in your superficial mindset, is the realism and passion that fuels such folk art. As Lou Reed described the process:

"Passion--REALISM--realis m was the key. The records were letters. Real letters from me to certain other people." -Lou Reed, 1975

Red Lipped Stranger

Her creep crawls
the narrow stairway
of the Candlelight Motel
to watch for her
from a window.

Rethinking
his infatuation
but clinging
to his vision of her
as the red lipped stranger.

Downstairs
the desk clerk's cat
slithers through
the service entrance.

The vampirate
on a motorbike
passes below
to the westbound bridge
werewolf on her back.

Jennifer at riverbend
watches gunboats
smacks her foot
on the bright red clay.

Jennifer gives good lyric
she wrote this poem
she's no bum.

But she's not there
on the other side
of the greenish wall.

Through a three-inch-wall
he hears
bedsprings rattle
rustle of dry-hump,
some guy's mumbles.

Hears the fat blonde waitress
whip it in bondage
the sounds
lull him to sleep.

The hand of Uncle Sugar
still taking notes
as a new standard bearer
hands out trophies
to the winners.

His trillion dollar gash
flakes from the bone
as gravity tears
a pound of dust.

Clings to a picture book
the missing part of himself
as if perpetually
anchored
to his invisible erection.

At Lucky Seven Lounge
she tries
not to reveal herself
but she stubbornly clutches
her empty shoes.

Something
seems missing
in the broad daylight
when the details
are displayed.

All that remains are
her flat black hat
her oversized lantern
her broken laptop.

No poor boy on the street
can speak of her
or the island on the river.
Or about her return...
her resurrection.
