Amazing the level of power you try to give me there... no, I'm just one man, doing my songs only, the responsibility over what your opinion of the Columbus-Phenix City music scene does not, can't depend on me.

That's just so silly and over the top that it is simply amazing.

But thanks for your opinion anyhow... heh.

And since some of you can't seem to think about anything else but "Will Dockery", here's one of my poems set to music, currently being retooled by Jack Snipe and band:

She Sleeps Tight

Sleeps so tight
she has a marksman's eye.
Maker's mark
tattoo firewater spine.
Leather shoes
but nowhere to go.

Dice and coins
scattered in the snow.
Dice and coins
scattered in the snow.

Won't be long,
until I see her face.
She's waiting
in an undisclosed place.
I've been conspired
banned from my muse.

This won't stick
poor boy's all confused.
This won't stick
poor boy's all confused.

In Salem town
she keeps her chin so high.
Darkened breeze
she smiles as I roll by.
Step inside
she looks for tables left.

Wink at time
nothing lasts except yourself.
Wink at time
nothing lasts except yourself.

Like a Steamboat
she plans to roll on down.
To the Gulf
out of this dirty town.
Copper mesh
kept stuffed in a jar.

Sharp cold hit
turning wine to water.
Sharp cold hit
turning wine to water.

We know him
eye deed by his ship.
In a trap
a kind of goosechase trip.
Whiskey fumes
and stale gunsmoke.

Sunk and drowned
with all her knives and jokes.
Sunk and drowned
with all her knives and jokes.

Sleeps so tight
she has a marksman's eye.
Maker's mark
tattoo firewater spine.
Leather shoes
but nowhere to go.

Anyway, here's some real "Will Dockery", accept no substitutes:

Red Lipped Stranger - Will Dockery & The Shadowville All-Stars

http://youtu.be/qBhcN1WK144

Red Lipped Stranger

Her creep crawls
the narrow stairway
of the Candlelight Motel
to watch for her
from a window.
Rethinking
his infatuation
but clinging
to his vision of her
as the red lipped stranger.

Downstairs
the desk clerk's cat
slithers through
the service entrance.
The vampirate
on a motorbike
passes below
to the westbound bridge
werewolf on her back.
Jennifer at riverbend
watches gunboats
smacks her foot
on the bright red clay.
Jennifer gives good lyric
she wrote this poem
she's no bum.

But she's not there
on the other side
of the greenish wall.
Through a three-inch-wall
he hears
bedsprings rattle
rustle of dry-hump,
some guy's mumbles.
Hears the fat blonde waitress
whip it in bondage
the sounds
lull him to sleep.
The hand of Uncle Sugar
still taking notes
as a new standard bearer
hands out trophies
to the winners.
His trillion dollar gash
flakes from the bone
as gravity tears
a pound of dust.

Clings to a picture book
the missing part of himself
as if perpetually
anchored
to his invisible erection.
At Lucky Seven Lounge
she tries
not to reveal herself
but she stubbornly clutches
her empty shoes.
Something
seems missing
in the broad daylight
when the details
are displayed.
All that remains are
her flat black hat
her oversized lantern
her broken laptop.
No poor boy on the street
can speak of her
or the island on the river.
Or about her return...
her resurrection.

My responses are basically to keep the record straught from the misrepresentations and falsehoods, and to keep the focus of this thread on topic, which is that over 2000 "Yes" voters call this the Columbus-Phenix City music scene, one loaded with talented singers, songwriters, musicians and performers.

Here's three of those, for example... I challenge you to try and call their creative works and original songs excellent without making yourself a liar.

As I posted earlier, which I note you've pretended not to see...
Here are some individual examples of local singer-songwriters who, in my opinion, are creating some quality work, and put on a great performance, and very legitimate musicians:

Riley Yielding:
http://www.youtube.com/user/RusticViewer07/vi...

Bibb City Ramblers:
http://www.youtube.com/user/RusticViewer07/vi...

Fiddlers Blues Band:
http://www.youtube.com/user/RusticViewer07/vi...

The above performers in the Columbus-Phenix City music scene are great examples of why this poll is bogus... there's a wealth of talent in the Chattahoochee Valley.
Heck, you might even manage to list a couple someday... heh.

While almost half that many, headed rapidly to 3000 voters, are speaking every bit as loudly... a "Yes!" to the Columbus-Phenix City music scene.

So thanks for giving your opinion, although your exprience with our local music scene seems quite limited... here's a link showing the great variety of musical talent to be found here in the Columbus-Phenix City area:

These videos can be viewed by Phenix City residents on East Alabama Cable-TV channel 7 throughout the days and nights.

And even music feom local artists who are no longer with us, such as the late great Clyde Baker:

Clyde Milton Baker Jr. born 1956 passed away April 9th 2012.

He was a local celebrity in the music scene of Columbus GA-Phenix City AL:

"Clyde Baker's musical talent goes beyond his instrumental skill. His

great clarity and warmth. Audiences are quickto respond to this

No, you just cannot discount 6000+ votes that easily.
The majority do not like the Columbus Music Scene, basically what I have read here from people posting from all over is they don't think the music is that good.
Even if you say the poll is bogus, The comments from all over are not.
I would love to see the blogs or twitters that are sending them here, show us those too Will.

Anyway, as for what to do downtown tonight, just down the street on Broadway, in addition to Bibb City Ramblers at The Loft, there's action at the Chaos bar at 1244 Broadway:

George Adkins
Need a solo act to fill a set tonight at Chaos. Not paying much, but paying. Message me if you are interested. P.S. Chaos is a rock bar, so keep that in mind.

And yes, you have to take seriously that almost half that many voters, 2000+ have voted the exact opposite, so far.

While a majority negative opinion in a conservative area such as Columbus-Phenix City isn't that surprising, the fact that over 2000 voters so far have sided with the creative and talented members of the Columbus and Phenix City music scene, and that will not be ignored.

And the numbers grow... a very encouraging situation on the positive side that half the people of this area feel that something good is happening.

Have been on Topix for a while, funny this stuff never changes.
I think that Atlanta has a real legit music scene, people come here specifically to she artist perform.
Columbus needs to break away from that "good ol boy" BS that dominate things down that way.
That being said, I still gotta get down that way to try the Whitewater thing, not much talk on here about it, why?

Hello Commando, been a while!

Well, you know how it goes on here, as you put it so well a while back:

"Druid Hills Commando" wrote:

I would agree that when Will uses Topix to "share" his or his friends music or musical event he is setting himself up for ridicule. Maybe not because the quality of the musicians but because Topix is not really the place for that, most people get on here to complain about whatever and to attack that which they hate.

I could start a post about some new movie I watched and liked and 9 out of 10 would say they hated it and I'm a idiot for posting, that's just the way it is.

Will, you seem like a nice guy but you are unrealistic if you think you can post what you do and get nice replies..."

And that really just about nails it, Commando.
