We've discussed this before, look for the threads on "Signiture Files", which are tags, or "sigs" that are traditionally added to the end of a post for identification purposes.

This has been a staple of Forums since the 1980s.

The "--" indicates a "Signiture" of the poster.

Sorry to burst you bubble.
I seem to recall more than one NYT article on Doo-Nanny.

Look it up, or I can repost it here... heh.

Again, you show just how ignorant you are.
My location cannot be changed unless I register and use a profile, posting unregistered shows the location of the company that provides me Internet access, Rex Georgia.
I enjoy lively debate on Topix but arguing with you is like arguing with a 5 year old, no satisfaction in that.
Please remain blissfully unaware, stupendously slow and provincially ignorant and continue by all means to post your tripe here.

No, more like I just don't /care/ enough about your location to try and figure it out.

What makes you think an anonymous half-wit like you matters to anyone on this Forum to care if you're from Rex Georgia or where ever?

You're the silly one, even making a post about it.

Hope this clears up your confucion... now go have yourself a nice day.

<snipped for focus>
Let me bring you up to speed, since you seem ignorant of internet practices and confused as usual, my anonymous friend.

What you call my "link" is what is known as a "signature file", which I've used for years and will continue to use, as it provides information on me, as well in the case of this current forgery and identity theft of my name, additional proof of my identity as ooposed to the criminal trying to pass himself off as me.

Here's one definition, since you seem so confused:

http://searchsecurity.techtarget.com/definiti...

A signature file is a short text file you create for use as a standard appendage at the end of your e-mail notes or Usenet messages. For example, you might include your full name, occupation or position, phone number, fax number, e-mail address, and the address of your Web site if you have one. Many people also include a favorite quote, company motto, or short personal statement.

Most e-mail and Usenet news facilities make it possible for you to either create the signature file as part of the application or to specify another file you've created with a word processor. Then, you tell the facility (usually in an "Options" menu) the name of your signature file and it automatically adds it to the note or message template it provides you.

Glad to clear up your confusion, my anonymous little friend.

Thank you and have a nice day.

You know I've checked out that article several times and never noticed that it was in the "Home and Garden" section either.
If you look at the pics it shows how his home is decorated, there is very little about Doo-Nanny really, its more about the man and his family.
You gotta do better research Will, LOL.

Hey, an article in the *New York Times* is quite a coup, no matter where the article is posted!

Think about it.

Three words:

New York Times.

Not bad for a little Doo-Nanny down in Alabama.

Funny, I read the article too and never noticed it was home and garden either.
I guess we know where all the $doonanny$ money is going now, to fix up Butch's house.

I doubt Butch is making that much of a profit from Doo-Nanny, still... the cover charge is mainly to cover expenses, pay the talent, and so on.

Topix.com got a lot of negative publicity from letting a LOT of this hate speech, racism, libel, slander and personal attacks stay posted, so their very likely keeping a closer hold on it now, as the New York times reported:

I've seen posts removed from here days, weeks after they were posted, and the statement from Topix.com gives no such "facts":
"...Please note by clicking on "Post Comment" you acknowledge that you have read the Terms of Service and the comment you are posting is in compliance with such terms. Be polite. Inappropriate posts may be removed by the moderator."

All of which is fine with me, since I think the offensive language, racism and other garbage posted here at times can drive good readers and writers away.

The original post that explained why Topix.com doesn't allow the libel, slander, personal attacks and hate speech to remain posted, and for good reasons, at that:

The "problem and animosity" seems to be a widespread problem with anonymous trolls, hiding behind fake names and posting lies and smears against people.

Unfortunately for you, I fight back and correct your lies and misrepresentations about me... and label you for the trash you are. Truth hurts, eh?

The fact is that I'm just a real person posting here, while anonymous trolls create these threads apparently from some obsessed agenda they have to attempt to smear my name, libel, and otherwise misrepresent me. And from further reading, it appears to be a sort of Topix.com phenomenon that some don't seem to be able to deal with as well as I have.

For example:

http://www.nytimes.com/2011/09/20/us/small-to...

"...a social media Web site called Topix, where they write and read startlingly negative posts, all cloaked in anonymity, about one another. And in Dee’s Place, people are not happy... called Topix a 'cesspool of character assassination.'[...] In rural America, older, poorer remote population lagged the rest of the country in embracing the Internet, the growing use of social media is raising familiar concerns about bullying and privacy... hubs of unsubstantiated gossip, stirring widespread resentment in communities where ties run deep, memories run long and anonymity is a novel concept.'Something about rural culture seems to make people want to have conversations in public,' Topix, a site lightly trafficked in cities, enjoys a dedicated and growing following across the Ozarks, Appalachia and much of the rural South, establishing an unexpected niche in communities of a few hundred or few thousand people..."

And, of course, there's a difference between free speech and
libel. The posts made here and elsewhere on Topix.com by the trolls you asked about generally tend to fall into the latter category.

Daily Horoscope for May 23

Leo

You're in a very idealistic mood today, making it almost impossible for you to view loved ones in their true colors. If they've got any faults you won't see them because you'll have blanked them out. This rosy vision of your nearest and dearest is fine if it doesn't last long but it will cause problems if it persists and you continue to brush any problems under the carpet.
