Even if we did it wouldn't make me an expert of obscure television trivia, or of every bit of trivia.

For those new here, and asking, here's Josh Green's list of local music that he considers worth keeping an eye out for:

Technically they're an Athens band but their bass player, Clint Poe, is from Columbus and a local musician who plays with a couple of bands around town.
They'll also be performing live at The Loft on 2/23 with local band Cedar Creek opening.

Neal Lucas :

Marshall Ruffin - The Day :

Classic Addict :

Spy For Hire (now defunct):

Stereomonster - What A Day (Official Video):

Joey Allcorn - Alabama Chain Gang :

Hopefully this post goes through and gives a better representation to all of the talent in this town.
We've been friends for longer than I remember now, and though we may not always agree, his judgement is astute and thought out, and commands my respect and appreciation.

Does Columbus have a music scene?
Glad you asked that question, as I was just posting a link elsewhere of the big archive of live performances by many members of the Columbus-Phenix City music scene.

The context is for the poetry contest, which I'll be posting about here next, with $$$ cash prize to the winning poem:

If this wins, I'll work the cover up with Jack Snipe and Brian Mallard, sing it at Del Ranch for Geno's video broadcast for Angel and yourself, a Valentine gift for you, a made man of Shadowville and your lovely and angelic bride, Angel.

No $$$ needed, having friends such as you is reward enough.

From Rusty Wood of East Alabama Cable-TV:

"...A great line up of Duos and Bands on this week's "Block Party" Saturday night @ 10:00 pm on EATV 7! Fire Mountain, Dan Davidson with Gini Woolfolk Davidson, SoL', Sandy Madaris with Henry Foster Conley, Wildwood Bluegrass, The Conley Brothers, Southern Ashe, The Well Fellers, Brian Fowler with Dan Davidson, Katy Clyde with Jack Snipe, Back Trackin', and Blue Harvest!

Great line up on this week's "Block Party Vids" Sunday night @ 10:00 pm on EATV 7! Sandy Madaris, Will Dockery, Tim Maggart, Strokin' Dixie, Wood Suddeth and Associates, and Brent Lindley!"

And for those who don't have East Alabama Cable-TV, or are unfamilar with the music scene in Columbus-Phenix City then and now, the scene is also thriving with talent of every variety:

http://www.youtube.com/user/RusticViewer07/vi...

These videos can be viewed by Phenix City residents on East Alabama Cable-TV channel 7 throughout the days and nights.

Follow the link above for a representative overview of the local Columbus-Phenix City music scene with videos from local talent both young and old.

I'm not familiar with Rex Georgia either... a local band?

Doo-Nanny is being written up in places like the New York Times now, hardy just a "small social event" at this point, and in fact was a world class art and music event years ago:

http://www.nytimes.com/2010/04/08/garden/08do...

"...LIKE a medieval village, Butch Anthony’s 80-acre family compound is a self-contained universe, and every inch of it is an expression of his prodigious creative spirit. It makes a tempting destination for folk art aficionados, as well as the sort of art world tourists who’ve already ticked Marfa, Tex., or Joshua Tree, in the California desert, off their lists. Mr. Anthony, a lanky and laconic 46-year-old who dresses exclusively in Liberty denim overalls (he owns 25 pairs) and a battered straw hat (he has 10), is a self-taught artist, builder and local hero, whom the state of Alabama once chose to make a Christmas tree ornament for the White House — the Bush 43 version. He is also the host of the Doo Nanny..."

"...Like Burning Man, the extreme art fair held each summer in the Nevada desert, the Doo Nanny offers both a burning effigy and an exercise in creative camping. Mr. Anthony has thoughtfully provided a tepee, an outdoor kitchen, a solar-powered shower, outhouses and a wood-fueled hot tub, all built from and decorated with the sort of handmade trash-into-art pieces — ethereal chandeliers pieced together with cow bones and twigs gnawed by beavers — that are his specialty. It now attracts an intrepid crowd of makers and their fans who gather on the last weekend in March not only to show their work — and sell some, too, if they’re lucky — but to hang out with like-minded friends and partake of Mr. Anthony’s particular brand of Southern hospitality, which is certainly as homespun and country as his accent, but has an impish, renegade backbeat. It is also a chance to see Mr. Anthony on his own, very atmospheric, turf."

No, Doo-Nanny isn't for eveyone... but who would /want/ it to be?
And of course the $$$ will go to the organizers... most likey to Butch Anthony, who owns the farm Doo-Nanny takes place on.
I think this notion that Doo-Nanny should remain "free" is a bit silly, and I wager most other folks will, as well.

The NY Times writes about 100's of unusual people every year, you are placing too much on this article, like its some kinda endorsement or something.
Are you really that stupid? Or just that provincial...

You are a purveyor of SPAM!

What is spam?

Spam is flooding the Internet with many copies of the same message, in an attempt to force the message on people who would not otherwise choose to receive it.

Sound familar?

While most believe these are immature acts from a disgruntled visitor or a bored child, it usually is not. For the most part, these are what we call "link-spammers". Their mission is to find popular message boards, place a link to their website on it, like "Reverb Nation"

Sound familar?

Yeah, I also have a subscription to the NY Times at my office in Atlanta and read it everyday. I followed your link and read the article, it's a typical NY Times article but its in the Home & Garden section, didn't even make the Arts section pal.
Sorry to burst you bubble.

We've discussed this before, look for the threads on "Signiture Files", which are tags, or "sigs" that are traditionally added to the end of a post for identification purposes.

This has been a staple of Forums since the 1980s.

The "--" indicates a "Signiture" of the poster.
