Tripp's open mic MC gig is getting heavy coverage on 107.3.
Looks like Tripp's show went great last night, with a vast array of the talents from the Columbus GA-Phenix City AL music scene in attendance and representing.

Here's what Tripp says about it:

"Wow. Hell of a turn out at Chaos On The Rocks Open Mic last night!!! My love and thanks to: Henry Foster Conley, Gene Wolfolk, Paul Singletary, Brandon Holden, Zachary Marks, Brittany Avery,Joe Strings, Gabriel Holland, Dana Dodd, and all the people I'm too hung over to remember!! Thank you Columbus for the constant love you show in supporting my open mic nights!!!! See y'all Tuesday night at Soho for a VERY special Open Mic with a surprise guest...TBA!!! Holler!" -Tripp Wrigley

And for those unfamilar with the music scene in Columbus-Phenix City then and now, the scene is also thriving with talent of every variety:

These videos can be viewed by Phenix City residents on East Alabama Cable-TV channel 7 throughout the days and nights.
Follow the link above for a very represntative sampling and overview of the local Columbus-Phenix City music scene with videos from local talent both young and old.

Well, thanks for providing a textbook example of just the type of unregistered, anonymous troll that I was writing about earlier today...

> They're malcontents hiding behind a phony moniker or name. They believe there is a hierarchy on Usenet. I seem to spend too much time feeding the trolls.

This is from another thread but applies here and is worth repsoting, fot those who missed it:

https://groups.google.com/d/topic/alt.arts.po...

The "problem and animosity" seems to be a widespread problem with anonymous trolls such as these trolls, hiding behind fake names and posting lies and smears against people.

Unfortunately for you, I fight back and correct their lies and misrepresentations about me... and label them for the trash they are.

Truth hurts, eh?

The fact is that I'm just a real person posting here, while anonymous trolls such as the one who post here create these threads apparently from some obsessed agenda they have to attempt to smear my name, libel, and otherwise misrepresent me.

And from further reading, it appears to be a sort of Topix.com phenomenon that some don't seem to be able to deal with as well as I have.

For example:

http://www.nytimes.com/2011/09/20/us/small-to...

"...a social media Web site called Topix, where they write and read startlingly negative posts, all cloaked in anonymity, about one another. And in Dee’s Place, people are not happy... called Topix a 'cesspool of character assassination.'[...] In rural America, older, poorer remote population lagged the rest of the country in embracing the Internet, the growing use of social media is raising familiar concerns about bullying and privacy... hubs of unsubstantiated gossip, stirring widespread resentment in communities where ties run deep, memories run long and anonymity is a novel concept.'Something about rural culture seems to make people want to have conversations in public,' Topix, a site lightly trafficked in cities, enjoys a dedicated and growing following across the Ozarks, Appalachia and much of the rural South, establishing an unexpected niche in communities of a few hundred or few thousand people..."

And, of course, there's a difference between free speech and libel. The posts made here and elsewhere on Topix.com by the trolls you asked about generally tend to fall into the latter category.

I have been to the Loft and Scruffy's before to see bands but they weren't from around here.
Whiskey Bent is pretty much the house band at Scruffy's, and all the musicians in that band are locals.

Exactly... and thanks for the critique.

Here are a few more good critiques on the music, poetry and art Will Dockery & The Shadowville All-Stars, specific and artful in their own writes:

"Will Dockery's voice is unique and fantastic to me in a Spacerock context, some ambient type Spacerock is a riff that builds and changes sometime ever so slightly and is hypnotic. Psychedelic/Spacerock is not for everyone, Will always picks up on the flow of the song and slowly changes with us and spews a poetic beat vibe to it. The T.O.T.M.(Theatre Of The Mind) album will be a acquired taste, kinda like an Alien stew with wierd stuff in it and unrecognizable shapes and textures. Or like a Alien child coming out of a human and the suprised looks on the family and medical staff as they realize that this aint no ordinary baby. Basically this album is for the Lava lamp and the Colorwheels."
- Brian Fowler, Bibb City Ramblers

“…The Shadowville All-Stars and their insane menagerie of pickers, strummers, drummers, bangers, trumpeters, trombonists, chanters, singers, freaks, faux-Indian dancers [...] colorful costumed cacophony of chaos that rolled from the [...] stage out to the performance area and up the hill to the kitchen and on out over the pond before it dissipated into the ether…”-Katy Clyde, ChattyHoochee Mama website

"In my opinion Will Dockery is easily one of the most authentic American poets around. A real coffeehouse poet who is not scared of mingling some real American elements such as country music into his poetry." -M.H.Benders
- Martijn Benders, http://www.Kannibaal.nl

"...eclectic, imagery-laden, neo-beatific poems. Chain-smoking, spontaneously gesturing towards make-believe objects and addressing imaginary characters [...] gravel-throated limp, a rolling, bluesy romp in the swamp [...] pool halls, bridges, tragedies, lost love, relationships. "

Great music coming to Columbus...

PONDEROSA at The Loft on 1/25

Ponderosa - Navajo (Official Video): www.youtube.com/watch...

A THOUSAND HORSES w/ POANNA at The Loft on 1/26

"What is most unique about the band is their way of flawlessly combining a bit of R&B with sounds from the bass and drums that resemble those of rock legends like the Rolling Stones. A Thousand Horses’ ability to show off their skills is evident in their naturally harmonizing music. The record is undoubtedly exactly what a rock record should be: fun, simple, and lyrically unforgettable.

HOLY GHOST TENT REVIVAL ( http://www.holyghosttentrevival.com )

"Holy Ghost Tent Revival, based in Greensboro, NC, has swept away audiences over the past five years and built a reputation for energetic, tightly crafted music with meaningful lyrics presented in signature memorable, passionate performances. It is this music that moved Chris Hillman from The Flying Burrito Brothers to exclaim “Man! You guys have really got something,” as he watched from offstage at the Loveless Café in Nashville. This feeling manifests itself in the band's second full length album, Sweat Like the Old Days. Listeners will find the group maturing away from their blend of Dixieland- and ragtime inspired folk rock into a more electric, horn and rock driven sound."

If we have our SAME SEX MARRIAGE PERFORMED AT DOONANNY could ya'll perform songs exclusively by the punk band THE MEAT PUPPETS. You also mentioned a reception which certainly would have food. Could THICK SIZZLIN'SAUSAGE TYPE KILBOSSAS sopped in thick brown molasses be on the menu. Washed down with sparkling Ginger Ale. Potato salad or pasty white cream potatoes served warm with a white rue sauce would be nice also. Maybe other gay couples could recommit their vows too. Make it a big party. You could use the opportunity to present information on your HIV-AIDS philanthropy fund raiser too. Maybe someone could design a KLAUS NOMI style face blend image with your high resolution graphic head image like a special promotion on a triangle rainbow flag. You should dress up and wear make up like KLAUS NOMI too at the event since KLAUS NOMI was one of the very first HIV-AIDS AWARENESS SPOKESMEN. These are good ideas. Please try to explore the possibilities by letting everyone you know who is GAY or GAY FRIENDLY that marriage ceremonies and related festivities may be part of the DooNanny this year. It is up to you to promote it. Write a special marriage tune also. Sort of like TRUCK STOP WOMAN or IT'S RAINING MEN.
Well Reverend Corey Connor has some very interesting offers and suggestions for this possible event, here's the first:

If not perhaps you could marry a Charlie McCarthy type ventriloquist mannequin. It would be great theatre. Use Halloween prop materials and create a DUMMY prop person to MARRY at DooNanny. You could ask your fans to bring WEDDING GIFTS. Then you could sell the gifts later at a thrift mall. The proceeds could go to your HIV-AIDS PHILANTHROPY. That's it! Marry a Mannequin and raise money for AIDS by receiving wedding gifts to be sold for fund raising. Its INGENIUS! Discuss this idea. Your fans would dig it. It could raise tons for AIDS.
