All this music posted here sucks ass. I thought it was a joke at first, where that Will Dockery was like weird Al Yankovic but he is serious and that is sad.

Thanks for giving your opinion... and remember, if you don't like the music, skip the posts.

Unless you prefer to come here and whine about it, that is.

Sad sad sad.

What's the difference between a musician and a large pizza ?
The pizza can feed a family of four!

Does Columbus have a music scene? They got people playing around but not a real legitimate music scene per say.
I agree with the majority of voters in that its not legitimate because it doesn't exist.
You can see all the vids and stuff linked out of here but people, that does not make a music scene
Columbus has ZERO musical influence,'cept for maybe back in Ma Rainies day and there is ZERO blues going on in Columbus.
But then again people call Pine Mountain a true mountain, they say Callaway Gardens has a true beach....least people around here know what a true music scene is and voted accordingly by this Topix poll.

That's okay as far as stating your opinion, or what you may know from your own experience, but as far as an accurate statement, it has ZERO accuracy, as the Columbus-Phenix City music scene is highly infused with blues elements, almost every artist in the scene is infused with a blues perspective on one level or another.

Ok so I'm stepping into this conversation a LONG time after it began but I felt it was necessary to say something. I've lived here all my life and came up in the scene with a plethora of hard rock and metal/hardcore bands (i.e. Thrill of a Gunfight, Burn th Sky, Melbourne) and although it's a great mix of underground and bar/venue bands, the music scene in C Town is doing well. No it's not blowing up like Atl but nor is it as large as Atl. The problem with the people that are pesimistic of the local scene here is they aren't exposed to the right bands/artists. There are SOOOO many bands that are older and play the bullshit you hear on "Creed 103" columbus' pure cock rock that the stigma of that genre is closely related to the city. The truth is there are some younger bands and artists that are playing much more modern and updated material and it's those artists that you should go check out. If you LIKE the stuff from the older era then you have that too and I apologize if I come off as if I have no respect for ppl playing that type of music. I'm just jaded because of the large amount of groups that play that stuff and the YEARS of having it crammed down my throat by our only rock station at the time before 106.9 Really Rocks FINALLY came to SAVE US ALL!!! THAT is a staion that plays new music. Do I like it all? NO. But you will hear much newer artists there and if you want to be enlightened then go listen to it. In relation to 106.9, every Friday at 5:30 (i think... maybe 5pm?... well... it's 1 of the 2) you can hear the "homegrown" segment which features EXCLUSIVELY local unsigned bands and MANY are EXTREMELY talented!!! There are also a VAST SEA of great Hiphop and Rap artists that are ALL OVER THE CITY!!! Listen to Foxie 105. They still have their ears to the street. Don't give up on CTown yet. We ain't dead and there are some bands that are coming into their own and are MORE than capable of blowing ppl away! REAL TALK!!!
Absolutely!

The Columbus-Phenix City music scene continues to evolve, and the scope of variety is truly inspiring.

Blues elements and blues perspective? I don't think so. You are clueless, you play some blues progression or a few riffs and you think you are blues infused, LOL, I don't know why I am surprised considering all the musical hogwash you put on this board.
You saying its so sure don't make it true, I see most of the voters agree with me on this poll.
Columbus music scene is illegitimate , because it doesn't exist.

I know so, though, so that trumps just "thinking so".

Come downtown and check out Henry Conley, who plays what he calls "Authentic Georgia Blues" and then get back to me.

Just because you haven't seen and heard it dowsn't mean it doesn't exist.

Two medical students were walking along the street when they saw an old man
walking with his legs spread apart. He was stiff-legged and walking slowly.

One student said to his friend:
"I'm sure that poor old man has Peltry Syndrome.
Those people walk just like that."

The other student says:
"No, I don't think so. The old man surely has Zovitzki Syndrome.
He walks slowly and his legs are apart, just as we learned in class."

Since they couldn't agree they decided to ask the old man. They approached him
and one of the students said to him,
"We're medical students and couldn't help
but notice the way you walk, but we couldn't agree on the syndrome you might have.
Could you tell us what it is?"

The old man said,
"I'll tell you, but first you tell me what you two fine medical students think."

The first student said, "I think it's Peltry Syndrome."

The old man said, "You thought - but you are wrong."

The other student said, "I think you have Zovitzki Syndrome."

The old man said, "You thought - but you are wrong."

So they asked him, "Well, old timer, what do you have?"

The old man said,
"I thought it was GAS - but I was wrong, too!"

Broadway is a joke. People in Columbus are so used to these hobby bands that when a legit act comes here, hardly anyone goes.
So I got to vote NO, not legit.
Yeah, I'd have to agree

Well you have a right to your opinion... never mind that over 850 other, "Yes" voters don't agree with you.

Just because you don't see it, or are otherwise incapable of recognizing and/or appreciating the vast variety of talent here in the Columbus-Phenix City area doesn't mean it is "dead" or doesn't exist, but rather exposes your ignorance and lack of musical taste, Anal.

I agree, Big Time... the quality or lack of it in the local music scene is more a matter of perspective than anything else. Art is subjective, after all.

850 voters is a significant number supporting the validity of the "Columbus Georgia Sound", as the Brit band The Heavy labled it.

No, there is no majority mandate here yet, Commando, because out of a population of over 100,000 in this area, hardly a fraction of the votes are even in yet. This bogus poll, therefore, is likely to continue counting votes well past the National elections, two weeks from now.

Half the voters so far voted "No", while 850 more voters are in support of the Columbus-Phenix City music scene.

Well, that means that the good news here this morning is that 850 voters don't agree that the music scene is dead at all, and the evidence of 700 videos featuring the talents of the local Columbus and Phenix City singers, songwriters and musicians /prove/ that it is a fact that the music scene is alive and thriving and that your opinion that it is "dead" is nothing more than a false assumption.
The facts prove it, wake up and celebrate the talents we have here, rather than carrying your bitter negativity on your shoulders... fair enough?

And, nobody reading this has to take my word for this the proof that what I state is a fact can be seen by browsing the over 700 videos available on the site, the scene is also thriving with talent of every variety:

http://www.youtube.com/user/RusticViewer07/vi...

These videos can be viewed by Phenix City residents on East Alabama Cable-TV channel 7.

And thanks for having a listen, voting and commenting, Big Time.

With almost 900 "Yes" votes so far...and as I've pointed out before, 900 voters who enjoy and support the local music scene is quite significant, and appreciated.
