Live at Del Ranch, the Legendary Flying Scumbolis tonight at the Thursday open mic! Come enjoy the best of the "Columbus Georgia/Phenix City Alabama sound"!

http://www.ustream.tv/channel/open-mike-colum...

Then after that, ride over the Chattahoochee River to the Old SoHo Bar to check out the Spaceseed show, also loaded with the best of the local musicians and performers... I'll be at both!

I never seen a poll quite like this one in my travels around Topix.

I would not advise people to drive from bar to bar, in today's world someone could probably find a way to sue you for it if they get a DUI or wreck.

Well thanks for having a listen and giving your opinion... no, the Columbus-Phenix City music scene isn't perfect, but there's definitely some hard working talent on these stretts.
For another example, here's this particularly strong set from most of the local performers, including me on a couple of the songs, the tribute show to our friend Clyde Baker, a singer-songwriter who suddenly passed away in April:

http://youtu.be/HON4gaacGsU

"Seems To Be No Time", written by Basil Fitzpatrick originally sang by Clyde Baker, vocal interpretation by Will Dockery / "Bang A Gong" written by Marc Bolan, vocal by Will Dockery / "Nothing & Nothing" written by Clyde Baker, vocal Basil Fitzpatrick / "Tonight Is Mine" written by Clyde Baker, Vocal by Derundo Jenkins / "White Rabbit" written by Grace Slick, vocal by Gini Davidson / "Gloria" written by Van Morrison, vocal by Dan Davidson.
Again, thanks for your time and perspective.

The Columbus Music scene is the Mitt Romney of music scenes.
I guess the majority of people just don't like it.

But like Mitt would say:

"Over 800 yes votes ain't bad..."

800 supporters of the music could sure fill a local venue, and I for one appreciate ever one of them.

Funny, yes, but not really applicable, as this is an "election" that never ends, and 800 supporters of the "Columbus Georgia Sound" is a very good number,

As for the negative unbelievers... well, you're always gonna have that ilk, it's human nature for some folks to hope foe failure.

Meanwhile, we will, as Neil Young says "Keep on rocking in the Free World!"

Columbus sucks when it comes to live music, at least 106.9 is trying to get some decent bands here.
Broadway is a joke. People in Columbus are so used to these hobby bands that when a legit act comes here, hardly anyone goes.
So I got to vote NO, not legit.

Heh... well you seem bitter, and this is the place for folks with an axe to grind... heh.

Meanwhile, for me and the other 800 voters who /do/ understand the legit music scene... I have to run off and get a little practice in, Thursdays are great nights for that with open mic hosted by Brian Mallard at the coffee shop, then over the river at Del Ranch, hosted by my old comrade Henry Conley.

Join me for a sample of the world famous "Columbus Georgia Sound"!

I have listened to this radio station and have actually enjoyed it but they end up throwing a rock rap song in and I cannot enjoy it.
So musically knowledgeable people, when did rap infuse with rock and metal?
Why do people find it "innovative" when they combine two music types? Its like making a tuna and jelly sandwich, yeah, its something new but it sure doesn't taste very good.
I heard a bluegrass rendition of Blue Oyster Cults "Don't Fear The Reaper" and although a novelty, it wasn't something I would want to hear again.
Excel at what you do, avoid the gimmicks.

Boy did I go off topic with that last post, sorry.
I am relatively new here so give me a break, LOL
I think the Columbus Music scene is legitimate, I have enjoyed the bands and performers I have heard when I have been out and about.

LB, there will be a great show at Iron Bank Coffeeshop tonight, Brian Mallard, Henry Conley and Sandy Madaris doing a songwriter-in-the-round kind of set.

Here's an example of Sandy's music:

"Way Back Home" by Sandy Madaris, written with Luke Powers, produced by Tommy Spurlock. From the CD Way Back Home.

Ok so I'm stepping into this conversation a LONG time after it began but I felt it was necessary to say something. I've lived here all my life and came up in the scene with a plethora of hard rock and metal/hardcore bands (i.e. Thrill of a Gunfight, Burn th Sky, Melbourne) and although it's a great mix of underground and bar/venue bands, the music scene in C Town is doing well. No it's not blowing up like Atl but nor is it as large as Atl. The problem with the people that are pesimistic of the local scene here is they aren't exposed to the right bands/artists. There are SOOOO many bands that are older and play the bullshit you hear on "Creed 103" columbus' pure cock rock that the stigma of that genre is closely related to the city. The truth is there are some younger bands and artists that are playing much more modern and updated material and it's those artists that you should go check out. If you LIKE the stuff from the older era then you have that too and I apologize if I come off as if I have no respect for ppl playing that type of music. I'm just jaded because of the large amount of groups that play that stuff and the YEARS of having it crammed down my throat by our only rock station at the time before 106.9 Really Rocks FINALLY came to SAVE US ALL!!! THAT is a staion that plays new music. Do I like it all? NO. But you will hear much newer artists there and if you want to be enlightened then go listen to it. In relation to 106.9, every Friday at 5:30 (i think... maybe 5pm?... well... it's 1 of the 2) you can hear the "homegrown" segment which features EXCLUSIVELY local unsigned bands and MANY are EXTREMELY talented!!! There are also a VAST SEA of great Hiphop and Rap artists that are ALL OVER THE CITY!!! Listen to Foxie 105. They still have their ears to the street. Don't give up on CTown yet. We ain't dead and there are some bands that are coming into their own and are MORE than capable of blowing ppl away! REAL TALK!!!

Looks like to me you need your ears, eyes, and possibly head examined if you hear or see the slightest 'sh1t' in this Sandy Madaris video.

Perhaps jealousy is your problem?

Here it is again, for those who want to hear and see for themselves:
