One of the highlights of the local music and art scene is Doo-Nanny. Doo-Nanny is just a simple art and music festival, a weekend loaded with fun and adventure for all.

The beauty of the internet is that previous Doo-Nanny performances have been filmed by East Alabama Cable-TV and can be watched right here free of charge:

Columbus has a rich heritage of African- American music yet you have nothing whatsoever regarding this but you claim to be the spokesman and facilitator of the Columbus Music Scene.
The subtle racism exists in our society and I think you should do some serious soul searching and find out the true reasons you neglected an majority section of local music.
Any visitor to Topix would think, that as a person of color, there are no options for them.
I am disgusted and appalled at your exclusion.
Is this the same nadine who is now posting again on the Columbus Forum?

If so, I can repeat my response and correction to your post, as there are many black musicians in the Columbus-Phenix City music scene. Infact, just last night Alex Jordan and his rock band played a show at Chaos Bar downtown on Broadway along with the rock band Second Hand Ego.

As I responded to "Nadine" earlier, but may have been missed the first time around:

"...Nadine, I read your earlier criticism of the Columbus-Phenix City music scene, that you mistakenly thought there are no black performers... which means you must not attend any of the events since as a starter, the drummer for many of us, including on my songs as well as the Conley Brothers, Buddy Harden Band and others, is Derundo Jenkins. Derundo has actually drummed with various groups I've sang with for many years, since way back in the 1990s.

Check out a few videos by Derundo Jenkins, original songs, his drumming and even an interview with him:

http://www.youtube.com/user/RusticViewer07/vi...

There are others, as well, such as Ty Clay, Lazy Swamis, Kenny Lewis, Stereomonster, Ashley White, Madaliene Davis, Alex Jordan, Nadine Coker, to name just a very few...

Which just goes to show that Rusty Wood was correct in his judgement that many people are critiquing and criticizing the local music scene without really knowing anything about it.

There are many others as I just named, and I reckon since the subject is up, and if you're interested, Nadine, we can go through and showcase the many local performers and songwriters of this area, who come from all walks of life and so on.

Derundo Jenkins interview:

http://youtu.be/s0poH7MVBuY
Uploaded by RusticViewer07 on Feb 8, 2012

"Minstrels on the Block" with Brian Mallard. Special guest Derundo Jenkins. Produced by Rusty Wood for EATV 7.

Thanks for bringing this up, Nadine, and glad to clear up your mistaken impression and confusion on this subject..."

And so it goes.

Support your Local Artists!

Vote "Yes"!

This is the Columbus-Phenix City music scene, one loaded with talented singers, songwriters, musicians and performers.

Here's three of those, for example...

Here are some individual examples of local singer-songwriters who, in my opinion, are creating some quality work, and put on a great performance, and very legitimate musicians:

Riley Yielding:
http://www.youtube.com/user/RusticViewer07/vi...

Bibb City Ramblers:
http://www.youtube.com/user/RusticViewer07/vi...

Fiddlers Blues Band:
http://www.youtube.com/user/RusticViewer07/vi...

The above performers in the Columbus-Phenix City music scene are great examples of why I say... there's a wealth of talent in the Chattahoochee Valley.

Looks like the huge majority are voting "no".
You want to know why?
The same OLD tired bands playing the same OLD tired music.
You show'd your true colors before the CutBait festival when Columbus has some quality big name acts coming here and you got mad because none of these tired old local regulars were on the bill, like you guys are on the same damn level.
You suck and everything you attach yourself to ends up sucking too.
When the hell are you going to wake up and grow up?

With almost 3000 "Yes" votes, that's a very positive trend indeed.

Lots of great performers at this year's Hogbottom including Gary Parmer, Henry Conley, Larry Rose, and the Buddy Harden Band which features the phenomenal Sandy Madaris on lead vocals:

Indeed the Hogbottom festival is, as are the other spotlights for the local music artists, Hogbottom and Doo-Nanny both.

Looks like there may not be a Doo-Nanny this Fall, but a weekend at Pasaquan is on for sure.

Here's the schedule for Hogbottom 2013, for those interested in a great weekend of music, BBQ and good fun.

As usual, the best in local music artists...

Sandy's show alone is worth the price of admission. Don't just take my word, hear it for yourself.

The great Butch Anthony is part of the big worldwide art scene and so he is carefully disassociating himself from the flotsom and jetsom sketch types like the local members of the cols ga music scene. real artists move on from the losers. the trash the untalented. the scum. the wannabe poets. the man children. the nobodys. nobodys. nothings.
