I am going to get straight to the point about kelly hill. 3rd id is a disgrace period. All the people in charge up their are drug addicts or a idiot. I know because i have seen with my OWN two eyes. I do not apperciate as a military wife walking into a building and seeing what i have. As far as i am concerned someone needs to wipe out all who is leader. They only give out promotion to people who will kiss ass. Why not give it to the soldiers who actually do their job and what their told. Instead they rather give it to the soldier who talks back and whines about everything they are told to do. The command on kelly hill is beyond ridiculous. I wish someone would do something about it. I know a guy who got extented on R&R because his wife was having a baby he went and contacted to get approval. He was TOLD he got approved and he left back to iraq the day he was told to. And that damn command tried to get him for AWOL. It didn't stick. That is just one example of the fucked up shit that happens back here. Anyways, on a happier note THANK GOD i am out of this shit hole in less than 3 years.
Maybe you should check out DA or HRC and notice that promotions are not "given" out by anyone on kelly hill unless you are an e-4 and below. And with that being said.. e-4 and below can also be achieved by time service (TIS) and time in grade (TIG) Yes there are waivers and that is achieved by the 1sg and their commanders choosing who they think should be promoted after their platoon sergeants have recommended them. And if everyone in the command is on drugs, then how do they all manage to pass a UA? i think your problem is that who ever you knew was a shit bag soldier that never bothered to inform you of BOTH sides of the story to the awol situation. I think all disgruntled people should stop, take a step back and reasses the situations. Most people problems are created because you put yourself in that situation. and if you are a military wife.. then how do you feel knowing that your accusing your spouse of the same things?

I know both sides of the situation because it was happening the sametime it happened to my husband. But on a side note it was just talk that someone apparently thought was funny. But it wasn't true. I didn't say that everyone is a drug addict, what i said is either do drugs or a idiot. Their are very few good soldiers up their which i should have stated. As far as drug testing goes. In the 8 years of being here with that command they only choose certain ones, maybe a few different at a time. As far as my husband my husband is a good soldier. Been doing this for years. And i been here since he started, which was straight out of high school. If you one of the few good soldiers on the hill then i apologize. But as far as all of them being good hell no. I have my own view of kelly hill and you have yours. You have seen different but so have i. But as far as a can tell and have seen i do not agree with alot that goes on. But in this kind of life style you learn to just go on with your day nothing you can do about it. As far as my husband goes he has been very successful in his career and of course we all get a few bad seeds in your battlion or command.

i will agree there are always bad seeds everywhere you go. one in every crowd actually. but i know in my battalion and in my husbands battalion, everyone gets drug tested, and then they have the 10% random ones as well.. but everyone gets one regardless. There are things that go on that one may not be proud of but that comes with any job military or civilian. I have seen the military from all sides, as a spouse, as a child, and as a soldier so yes sometimes things are not fair but then again life is not fair. yet what other job is a guaranteed paycheck on the 1st and the 15th and this easy to do? theres not i can promise you that. and not one that you feel more pride in rather than wearing the uniform of a US Soldier.

I think EVERY military base has horror stories. My father was stationed at Ft. Benning for 13 years (thus, I grew up here). My husband and I have been stationed here since 2003. My husband also did basic and another school at Ft Benning. I cannot say that this base is a dream boat, but growing up in a military family and then marrying a solider has allowed me to live on MANY, MANY bases, and I can tell you that NONE of them were dream boats. There will always be someone, somewhere who down right SUCKS. Not every Drill SG is a crappy. Not every every soldier is getting "abused." These people are the exception. My brother just went through OCS here at Benning (my husband is an instructor) and had nothing but positive things to say about his superiors. It's really the luck of the draw... on Ft Benning and every other base.

I'm sad to hear that so many people have had bad experiences here. But, I think that when you sign up for the military you better be man or woman enough to handle it.

My son just graduated basic last weekend and is in the airborne school right now. It changed his life. He wasn't a bad kid before, but he had low self-esteem and no motivation. He graduated with honors. He walks different. He talks different. When we saw him, I didn't recognize him. He is very proud and so am I.

Go Army.

There is no doubt the Army changed me for the better. It transformed me from a knuckleheaded kid into someone my father could be proud of.

ok i just wasted five minutes of my life reading stories about people who could not make it. look im sorry for the mothers who cant speak to their kids or lost someone.. but for the others who are in and go awol, and complain its too hard man up your in the army you knew what was awaiting you when you signed the paper the recruiters lie ya but they tell you straight up boot camp is not fun this is not happy fun camp its the military..and dont come at me with some bullshit cause i joined the marines so yes i can run my mouth.. i know plenty of people in the army and other military branches and none of them are crying... if your having problems then obviously you are not strong enough to serve your country.

I have been stationed at Ft. Benning going on 3 years and not once have i felt like going awol. I did basic at Ft. Knox and it wasnt fun its no supposed to be fun i got my ass ran off yelled at and drug through mud daily. I think that its takes no less than giving up your freedoms getting smoked and yelled at daily to see that its something worth fighting for to ensure the next generation will have the same freedoms we have had.

my hubby is at ft benning now, as well as some family of mine, and they like it, the only complaint i got was that they have to eat to fast to taste the food! other than that he and family are enjoying BCT, and he also told me that u are treated right if u dont bring bad behavior on urself!

oh my god, the horror story i have just read is about to make me cry. my son just got to ft. benning for basic. he is 18, he is ready to come home already. i feel so bad for him. when he was about 4 the hospital did a pre-surgery test to take out his tonsils and adnoids. they said he possibly had von willenbrands disease. he has never had a problem with bleeding. he dont have it but he told them about it and now they want proof. he sounded so horrible and frighten when i talked to him last night. i want him to do this and become a great soldier. hes a great kid and i dont know what they did or said to him but he is scared to death, i have never heard him sound like that before. im trying to get a hold of his recruiter but its a holiday. my husband is in the fl n,g and is on his 3rd deployment. i wish i could get ahold of him. he wont be in his office until 12pm tonorrow our time. im so stressed out right now , i have medical problems and this is not helping me at all.

Trolling along, aren't we.
Columbus is one of the better Army towns I have been at in my 28 years in the Army. There is opportunity here, that's why so many retire or do their enlistment and choose to stay here.

I have lived near Fort Benning all of my life, and the town does have some rough areas but no where near as bad as some of the larger cities. Columbus and the Fort Benning area does have it's fair share of Bars, strip clubs and all that, but what big town doesn't? It also has a large amount of shopping areas, arcades, and bowling allies. I've been on a number of Military bases, and to be honest they're all about the same. They all have the large old brick buildings and all that. And for those of you who say that the recruits are treated badly....IT'S ARMY BASIC TRAINING! It's not suppose to be easy. You're suppose to be yelled at, you're suppose to get home sick, and you're suppose to become so pissed off at the Drill Sgts that you want to hurt them. That's the point! It is a hard transition from civilian to soldier...and one that I'm sure most of you whining couldn't do. I am sorry for those of you who have lost someone or experienced hardships, but if I was in your shoes I wouldn't hold the base responsible. Most of the time those soldiers that do get into a lot of trouble bring it upon themselves. The soldiers that come out of Fort Benning come out with a new found respect for themselves and other soldiers. When I wanted to join the Army I was told my many men and women at Fort Benning that your Army life is what you make it. My fiance is at Fort Benning to become an infantry man. He might be verbally or even physically abused, but he knows that it's just part of the contract. He is making the best of it and sucking it up for 3 months while he's there. I don't think any of you should blame the Army, our soldiers or Fort Benning for your problems or the problems of your family. Becuase it's not their fault.
