They never contacted me he was missing I found out when his cell phone kept saying voice mail box.
Then they told me all his military records was missing, also his medical.

One way or the other I will find out what happened to my son.
And that they can take to the bank.

In point of fact, there is not a single strip club, tattoo parlor or sleezy motel on Fort Benning. But like most every city that hosts a military installation, there are all those lesser things just OFF POST.

Don't blame the military! Talk to the Columbus, Georgia city officials who are more interested in claiming the revenues from these low-rent businesses than having a clean place to live.

Snow,
Can you please offer any help or advice to me and my family, my father in law has been missing for 15 days now. We are getting no assistance or information from the military and my mother is barely hanging in there. He is listed as missing with his unit as well as the lee county sheriffs office. He went to pt and that was the last anyone saw of him he never showed up to work and no one has heard anything since. He was a good solider not one that would go awol and he was almost ready to retire like within one year even. He would have never left his family this way....we are lost....

Columbus is like any other city, there are good people and people who are not as well as elements of the city that may not be the type of places that you would go to even in your own hometown. If you are new to the city, try attending church. There are several in the area that have classes for young adults, single and couples. Finding a church family to share with, who will keep you and your family in their prayers regardless of where you move to.

What a joke! Columbus Georgia has some of the most cold hearted congregations of churches in our Nation. Again, what a joke of advise.

Sorry that you have had such a hurtful experience.

I agree that people here in the Columbus/Phenix City area are really no different than anywhere else. You have good and bad here like... well, anywhere else.

If you have had bad experinces with a church, maybe it's time to try another but regardless, I can't agree with stereotyping an entire city as all being one thing or another... except for maybe the local drivers. We do have some real Magoos out there behind the wheel, lol!

I sympathize somewhat with all you cry baby's. However lets remember all the good soldiers that have passed through Fort Benning to go on to fight to protect your rights to get on this blog and whine and cry.

How delayed is the mail at Ft. Benning. I have received 5 letters from my son, and I have sent 5 letters. As of his last letter he still has not received any of my letters. He was in reception for 14 days, and has completed 3 weeks of basic. We have received a letter from his commander about all of the dates for graduation. He still has not received any of our letters, and we have the correct address!!

Fort Benning has a really bad name over that way in Columbus. Its strip clubs, pawn shops, tatoo places, bars, Isn't there anything else for these soldiers to do when they are not on base?? All you hear is them fighting and getting into trouble. Why isn't the Army taking care of our Soldiers coming home from "War" No where around. That is why back in 2003 17 soldiers were sitting in jail from the 3ID either shooting someone or stabbing someone, beating someone, OH that is right that is what

they teach them to do I forgot and most of all

Kill people. That is what Fort Benning is all about. How Sad
Just another reason why poor and wealthy scumbags fit so well together in Columbus. Columbus,Georgia is an unfit town to raise children, buy a home, must less give a damn about anything else. When you live in Columbus Georgia you have hit rock botton.

You have not hit rock bottom when you live in Columbus, Georgia. most of these soldiers were doing these things way before they came into the army and the only reason they are getting the spotlight now is because they are from ft benning and they are soldiers. Most of them do not take into mind what example they are setting when they get into trouble. I have been in the army almost 4 years now. I dont go out to bars, i dont drink for that matter, none of my friends go to bars. when they drink they sit at home so they are not out breaking the law. there are plenty of things for soldiers to do around here besides getting tattoos and going to bars. they just choose not to. Im sure all of you sitting on here bashing about these things have done something in your life that you are not proud of. and how about speaking up for the soldiers from ft benning who have given their lives so you can sit on here and bash other soldiers? did any of you pray their families last night before you went to sleep? have you ever walked up to someone and shook their hand and told them thank you for what they do and what they did? i bet not!

It's time to redirect our taxpayer money after blowing our brains out and losing the war in Iraq just like Vietnam. We need roads, schools bridges, special investigators to proscecute Cheney, bush, and Haliburton. The petition to nail these freaks has already started.Get ready Pelican Bay for the Worst of the Worst.

The only part of Columbus I would not Recommend is North Highland. There are verified lying informants like Jamie Sapp 22 years old, Lissy and brother Gary 25 years old ,and finally Koddie Stewart 27 of Phenix City but does her dirty lying snitching in North Highland. I'm in the process of firing their drug supervisors for allowing innocent people to be slandered. I apoligize if you were falsely arrested but am cleaning up this mess ASAP.

What can you expect when you recruit people like that?
Well, you can expect about what you get now.
Before I left i was disgusted with the new recruits we were getting in.
No the problem is they promote those into a position of leadership that do not need to be there. And you have a entire Brigade without any oversight whatsoever. 3rd Brigade out of Benning is a career killer for even the most dedicated soldiers who love the army.

When things are going wrong they aren't afraid of IG. Ft Benning main post commanders don't want to deal with it because they don't feel that Kelley Hill is their responsibility and Ft Stewart doesn't want to deal with it because they consider Benning 3rd Brigade as the bastard child nobody wanted.

Everybody knows everybody on Kelley Hill and the good ole boy system runs rampant with no oversight. Its a disgrace.

My son has been to basic for three days now and called me hysteric today and said he went Awol. I talked him into turning around and going back. Trouble is; I don't know what is going to happen now. He was gone for less than 2 hours so is that considered Awol and is there any likeliness that he will be let out of his committment? These recruiters make the Army sound so nice with all the places and things to see. My son is miserable and wants out. How do I find out what is going on with him? They won't let him write and they smashed his cell. I am panicking not knowing what is going on. Recruiters need to stop sugar coating signing up and being in the military.

Sad Mom the best thing for you to do would be to contact the red cross and let them know your situation. they will contact your son immediately and let his chain of command know that you need to talk to him. Secondly I can hardly believe they would smash his cell phone but then again cell phones are not allowed in basic training. when i was in basic training we were allowed 3 phone calls for 9 weeks. In ait i was able to call home when ever i wanted to. But then again i was not on fort benning for basic and ait. Thirdly if you know the name of his unit then you can call the fort benning operators and they can put you through to someone who will contact your son and his unit so they will allow him to contact you. good luck!
