State troopers have the right to patrol any state or federal highway. Although with a lot of arm twisting, Cornersville has obtained the right to patrol between exits 22 and 27.

I travel a lot and have many times seen traffic controlled by a patrolman (state and city) flashing his lights at traffic that is running fast to slow it down. I don't think I've ever seen the Cornersville police do anything but write tickets. It's all about revenue!

What if it IS all about revenue? So what! They are not doing anything illegal whether anyone likes it or not. All I am hearing is a bunch of whiners with no real cause or authority. After having read all this crap, it is painfully obvious they are within their right and laws to do what they are doing. What part of that don't you yahoos get? I think you people just like to read yourselves bitching.

We the people pay the taxes and cast the votes. Ask any elected official running for a position in government if we the voters matter. Ask any LEO who messes up who has the authority to make complaints and get results. Ask any police chief if what the people think matter.

What you find out just may surprise you. We the people still run things around here and have opinions and guess what? Our opinions count. Laws are made with those we pick to serve us. If they make the wrong decision, we remove them and make things the way we want. Got it? Probably not. Stop confusing bltching with us being concerned community member who like to keep tabs on things. That is probably why you were never in charge of anything your entire life.

FWIW, I have seen the Cornersville police checking for speeders on Highway 129 between the main city and I-65. So itís not just the interstate traffic they are after, but also the locals going to and from town.

They need to be there. Locals travel those curve full roads like idiots out of the dukes of hazards.

1. I don't whine. I simply state my opinion. I have my opinion, just as you have yours.
2. And my opinion is that I am opposed to writing tickets on I-65 to out of state drivers who are going to pay the ticket rather than coming back to court. But I guess they need the money to accomplish road paving IN C'ville so they don't have to raise taxes to do it.
3.I appreciate those troopers/patrolmen who can accomplish slowing traffic without the use of their pen and ticket pad, but then C'ville has yokels for leadership and yokels for patrolmen and none of them have ever had an original thought.

The guy they are looking at hiring for this new position was fired from is Maury County deputy position for seeing a woman while on duty. He was married cheating on his wife and messing around on the job. They had evidence of his wrong doings and let him go. Now he's coming here to work?

The police of Cornersville are just doing their jobs and making the wonderful small town the revenue it can. They have it figured out...let it be! They are good police and do lots of things unnoticed and that is why they are great. When you know everything then you can talk! No matter what they do, people will talk so doing good is fine by me. If you have a problem with it , ignore the interstate or move.

Should Frankewing, Pulaski, Ardmore, Elkton, Athens, Decature, all small towns and cities work the I-65 interstate for extra revenue for their judges and police departments?

Should all small towns hire those who live outside those small town city limits, hire any trained rejects the larger cities, allow to resign, fire or just reject for some unknown reasons?

Should any town allow police to set radar on a down hill and drive the wrong direction into on coming trafic as to give chase, is that endangering the rest of the public and even the police themselves?

He was not let go he resigned, if you check he is a good officer. He did make a bad personal choice so should he be condemned for that when his work record had been good?

Check the above Web Site out can people read every word?

Could Cornersville hire or fire rejects from other cities police Departments? Just suppose those personal files were pludged after time would any so called mistakes still show up?

How can people complain if complaints are not allowed on the City Alderman's agenda? Bet the last City manager of Cornersville that went to jail wish he had not allowed any complains on the city Alderman's agenda?

I used to live in Cornersville, was on the fire department and a reserve on the police department. When a State Trooper on I-65 from about the 15 mile marker to the 25 mile marker or even beyond needs assistants, CPD is there to back them up. When there's a bad wreck in that area, the fire department is there with emergency medical first responders to help and extrication equipment to get victims out and ready to transport by ambulance or helocopter. This equipment is not cheap to purchase or maintain, neither is the training. Yes the county has all of this equipment, but they are up to 30 minutes away. They don't write tickets to anyone until they exceed the 10 mph threshold, in otherwords past 80mph on the interstate, and if your driving that fast, you need a ticket, you're taking your life and anyone else on the that happens to be on the highway!

First, thanks for volunteering or at least for being there for others. Isnt there a volunteer dept down there too? Or is it just all city now? Of course the vulunteer depts are forced to fundraise, where I really think they should be paid AND taxes collected for it. I just saw Belfast go out the other day and it was only one guy. that is a pity shame. how is one guy gonna fight a fire? but still its not fair that cornersveille get to write tickets on the interstate out of their juristiction while other cities liek Belfast, and Farmington have to scrip and fundraise for theirs. besides doesnt cornersville collect taxes for that purpose? and dont insurance companies pay claims to the dept?

It's just a disgrace to see people hunted down for a ticket just to make a bank deposit. PITIFUL! EMBARASSING! Cornersville has no reponsibility except to those of us who live here and they get an F. They are down there just generating money to pay themselves while we are here unprotected. The state may get the help, but we don't have that responsibility. DISGUSTING! The manager, mayor and council should be ashamed for ruining the reputation and businesses.

If I remember correctly Cornersville was tagged as a speed trap when I lived here in the 80's. I don't think the current administration has any thing to do with that since some of them were just getting out of grade school. And if you don't know part of the interstate is in the city limits. Appears to me that Cornersville is taking care of it's own, doesn't seem to be a crime wave here. Just my opinion but the more officers the better. I don't see any of their pay coming out of the citizens pockets. And yes they do give tickets but if break the law you are going to get caught.,. Just saying

I may be mistaken, but the city limits go to the interstate at exit 22. This part was annexed originally to allow C'ville to be able to collect city taxes on purchases at the businesses on the C'ville side of the interstate. Pulaski had already annexed up to the county line at the interstate.

In my opinion the purpose of police presence is to prevent crime/law breaking. Their presence on the interstate would serve to slow down traffic. In many travels, I have seen patrolmen (local and state) flash their lights to slow traffic. That typically accomplishes the same thing as writing tickets.

Also, there just seems to be something wrong when a city brings in more revenue with the tickets written by the city police than through property taxes.

You really need to stay current if you are going to try to contribute to the topic. We've been through all this. The city has no business on the Interstate as far as the state is concerned except for on small mile patch at exit 27. And if you'd go look at the records (the website has been posted) you'd discover the city does not bring in more revenue from tickets than taxes. What is wrong is here is you rehashing rumor and untruth.

I'm not sure what records, you're referring to but these are pretty clear and last time I checked 216,369 in fines/fees is more than 152,517. Maybe we're talking about two different reports.

http://www.comptroller.tn.gov/Repository/MA/F...

Page 18 of the audit clearly shows the following:

Proposed Budget for Property Taxes is 143,126 and the actual amount collected was 152,517

Proposed Budget for Fines/Fees is 184,500 and the actual amount collected is 216,369.
