When a child is searched at school by the SRO the school does not have to get permission from the parent, but would it not be common courtesy to contact the parent even after the fact?

if someone put their hands on a minor and asked that minor questions without the parent or a lawyer, a law has been broken and there should be some action taken.

You sir are wrong. Tennessee Code Annotated states "the school officials have the right to act (in loco parentis)". Means in place of the parent. Ask any lawyer. I will agree it would be best to contact the parent but the legislature says they dont have to.

School law is correct. They do not have to notify the parent. I went to the school today just to find out of I should be concerned. Did they have suspicion that my child was involved in drugs or was this a random search. Because there was a hand shake that Could mean the two were exchanging something they searched them. I don't have a problem with the search, I appreciate that they are trying to keep drugs out of the schools, I just felt that I should have been notified that it happened and if there was something as a parent that I needed to informed of. If I thought he was involved in something I would pop a drug test on him in a heartbeat. Then dipping the coin, if he is being singled out for no reason I will be the first to defend him.

You are either confused about who I was speaking to, or you learned nothing in your school law course. Go back and look at what I quoted.

Good subjects and by all means search and then tell. If they have nothing to hide they should not mind.

The parents should be informed. My child's school has recently installed a RedFlag Notification System that keeps me updated with all the things going on in the school whether it is PTA or any other event.

Many pedophiles in the public school system would love that job. Can't believe you losers have no problem with statist scum molesting innocent children! Just like the TSA fondlers, it's wrong!

I have told the school that if my child does something wrong to paddle them and then call me to come down there and then I will spank them with my own belt. If they suspect my child of anything and need to search them then search them and to call me and I will search them too. I will search there backpack, room at home and anything else they have touched within the last month. The problem these days is little Johnny does no wrong! If your child acts right the teachers and principles will have no reason to search or paddle your kids.

You would beat your kid with a wooden board? Parent of the year!! Now, when he goes out and hits other people with pieces of wood it's your fault. Teach kids to be nonviolent by beating them with wood boards and leather straps. Yup, makes sense to me.

IDIOT!

They must have beat you about your head and knocked what little sense you had to the floor. Did your mama have any kids that lived?

So violent...

So why do you think it's okay to beat children with paddles? Just curious.

Lets see! I was beat with a paddle, a belt, a switch off the tree out back after I had to go and get it, and with a bare hand. I feel I turned out just fine and I respect my parents. You guys ever here the word OBEY! They did an outstanding job! I want my children to know if they do wrong there are consequences. Kids these days go out and kill, fight, do drugs, be mean to others because they know there will be no penalty. On the news yesterday there was two kids that broke into a church and vandalized the place. WHY? Answer that! Although one of them was not smart enough to get his backpack and Thank God they got caught.
