Hello everyone, myself and a group of friends plan to buy gifts/dinner for a family in need with small children that can't afford it themselves. If you know of anyone in need, please post on the topic any info or a # of some local people that may could help with the project. People rant and rave all year long on this site, so why not do some good and show others you want to help! Thanks

Why don't you contact DHS, South Central Resources, your church, the elementary schools, the Salvation Army, Good Samaritan or another charitable organization. I'm sure they would be glad to have you make a contribution. Most are probably not going to directly give you a name of an individual because of the privacy rights of the person.
You might consider doing something for the shut-ins at the nursing homes. Many of them would love to have a visitor during the holidays....only cost to you and your friends - a bit of your time.

I think giving directly to someone is a great idea. Institutions do so much for people, and I am not trying to minimize their impact, but a little face time is great for everyone. I think people might give more instead of relying on institutions to give if they knew a neighbor had a need that they could fill. I think the day is coming very soon when we will have to help each other!

The good thing about organizations is they will take the donations and divide it among many families or individuals.

Some people in need are very proud and would just as soon not have others knowing of their need....thus an organization can protect their privacy. If you're giving to someone you alreay know, then privacy is not an issue.

The day has long been here to do for others. I am probably far older than you and I was raised by parents who believed in helping others. So my helping has been a life long thing.

With so many people unemployed you will be a blessing. If you have a Child Development Center in your area, you might check with them. It's non-profit and they certainly know people in need.

we always have a large Thanksgiving dinner at our house for people who are alone, recently widdowed, going thru the empty nest period - or for families that just cant put a Thanksgiving dinner on the table because of the economy. This year - the count is at 40 so far. the menu is: 1 smoked turkey, 1 deep fried turkey, 1 roasted turkey, all the usual side dishes, 8 pumpkin pies, 2 pecan pies and a cooler filled with sodas and drinks. no one needs to bring anything - just an appetite. hopefully we will be able to continue this gesture in Lewisburg when we are living there, for our new neighbors and friends.

You can also check with local banks and schools for angel tree children. Also, area schools are accepting coats for the annual coat drive for children without a decent coat for the winter. Maybe even contact guideance counselors for any items needed for needy students. They always have extra backpacks, notebooks, and supplies on hand for students in need. I hope your kind gestures bring you as much happiness and joy as it will the lives that you help !!!

I do what you are planning every year,I find a family & help, There are plenty organizations here in Lewisburg that help like, DHS, Cops for Kids, Good Samaritan, The Elks lodge & etc.. But I know that there are always a few that are left out and its no ones fault, sometimes people just have to much pride to ask for help, so thats why I find a family with children myself, Many years ago I lost my job & needed help for xmas, I did recieve help & was very greatful,Without that help My two kids wouldnt of had a xmas, so every year I do the same for someone else, Call it giving back. I think it is great what you are doing! I have a family picked out already, If you need help or you want to help with this family let me know.

I am having a hard time finding a family. People said they'd give me a call back and I don't know if I will ever get a call back. I would love to help or some help finding a family. :) Please let me know, we can email, or you can give me a call. You just let me know because I definitely need some help finding a family.

Go to an area bank and select an angel. If possible you can speak with the person in charge of the angel tree and try to have sibling groups selected for you to give gifts.

Dear Thankful,
I know of a family very close to my heart that is in need. My family is helping as much as we can but we also have our own household to think about as well. She is an unemployeed single mother of four. Two boys (ages 8 and 9) and two girls (ages 11 and 12). I have always tried to make sure that they have had a good christmas, but this is I seem to be coming up on the short end. If you are interested or know of anyone who may be interested in helping please send me an email @ the following address. amy.adams2@gmail.com.
I applaude you thoughts and efforts with what ever you do decide to do. It is a very generous thing to help those in need.
