Traffic is going to go from bad to worse in five years if Spring Hill doesn't either widen Main Street or build a by-pass around it. By-pass will save the churhces but hurt local businesses downtown when all the cars by-pass their stores.

The citzens of SH are very divided on the widening of Main Street through downtown. Opposition to widening the highway to more than the present 3 lanes is strong with the ol timers. The concern for the churches is evident.

The Major Thoroughfare Plan for Spring Hill originally called for widening 31 all the way through Spring Hill to 4 lanes with a median, but the old part of Spring Hill showed up in force at the public meeting to express their distaste for the idea. Unfortunately noone was there to say it should be done, so the city and it's consultant changed it back to a 3 lane road through the old part of Spring Hill.

WIden. The businesses on the old part are growing and surviving because of the massive growth of spring hill... these are some of the growing pains.

3 to 4 lanes might be doable, if routed correctly very few should have to loose thier store fronts.
Anyone who would loose thier mainstreet property should be compensated with other comparable mainstreet property, as an option to monitary compensation.....

Just WIDEN the SOB already!
Spring Hill has been totally indecisive about this issue for 2 decades and now the congestion is really starting to hurt everyone. The 2 Churches are the ONLY buildings worth preserving in DT SH, the rest of those broken down buildings can go anytime.
Widen 31 to 4 lanes from Kedron Rd all the way to 840 or even Goose Creek to relieve congestion.
The other alternative (IF the "old-timers" insist) would be 4 lanes from Miles Johnson Pky on North and leave DT SH as is. But this plan would require a much better Miles Johnson Bypass around DT that would be 4 lanes from 31 at Town center Pky to 31 North of DT. The current so-called "Bypass" is pitiful and confusing to out-of-towners with all the turns and jogs.
Come on SH, get your act together!

I was sitting at the red light at 31 + Beechcroft the other day and took a serious look at distances from the centerline of 31 to the 2 Churches.

There is no reason why 31 can't be widened to 4 lanes with a Left turn lane here without hurting the Churches. YES, it would require less green space on both sides of the road, and cutting back the hillside (and redo steps and end of retaining wall) on the Methodist Church (East)side of 31, BUT the Churches would not need to be harmed.

Any other of the dilapated eyesore buildings along 31 can go to make way!

Come on folks, call your City officials and State Reps. It's way past time to make this happen to alleviate Spring Hill's congestion for everyone!
