Runners on Duplex and Port Royal?

As the weather gets warmer I'm sure we'll see more runners coming out.

I saw a guy running this past Monday, on Duplex Road, at peak traffic time around 5pm, with the sun at his back and in the face of on-coming traffic and actually didn't even know what to think. I think I was just shocked. There was no shoulder to run on and he was basically running on the white line, on the edge of the West-bound lane ... I watched the truck behind me swerve at the last minute because he didn't see the guy.

And I've seen people running on Port Royal, between the Kroger/Dollar General area to Duplex Road ...another area with no sidewalks or shoulders. Again, you basically have to run on the edge of the lanes.

Anyway, I already know that ...BY LAW... walkers, runners and cyclist...have the "right" to be on the road ... but I cringe when I see these guys running at peak traffic times and almost on the road. Talk about greatly increasing your risks of a accident.

If you're getting out to run this spring...find a safer place than Duplex Road. Being in the "right" doesn't always mean it's a good idea.

I agree 100% they think it is for there health. And besides the fact you might get ran over. What do you think brake pads are made of yes asbestos or asbestos like products and when a car passes you and has to hit the brakes it sprays that stuff in the air. Go to the park to run that is what there fore.

I usually run at off-peak times and when I do, I stick to sidewalks or backroads.

Occasionally I find myself on a much busier road and it's almost like shell shock when there are tons of vehicles flying by. I like to keep an eye on passing cars, even in broad daylight because people are crazy and can be too tired or distracted and flatten you in a half-second if you don't watch them.

You better do more than clip me if you value your knee caps.

"they think it is for there health"

Are you serious? Yes, they are certainly more likely to die from inhaling asbestos instead of adding years to their lives due to their exercising habits. Get real and find something real to complain about. Those roads belong to the runners just as much as they do to the drivers. It wouldn't kill someone to slow down behind a runner for a second until it's safe to move over just a bit to pass them.

By the way, your spelling is horrible. "Go to college for an education, that is what they're there for."

Very good advice. Just because you have the right to do something doesn't mean you should do it!

Complaining? How about being concerned or perplexed that people don't value their own life...or the impact on others for their actions. Running on Duplex Road is ...well...dumb. Even IF people are doing the speed limit ... it's a terrible place to choose to run. There are so many factors ...from people talking on cell phones to texting to everything else. Now...you can choose to be "right" and run where this isn't even enough room to paint a white stripe on the shoulder and either get yourself killed or cause an accident or pick from the hundreds of other areas to run that are less dangerous.

Would YOU run on Duplex Road?

Sounds like the people not valuing lives are the ones on their phones!

usually people who complain about runners and cyclist on the road are fat asses who have no self respect or respect for others.

so shut up, go eat a cupcake and when you hit one of us, be prepared for a major lawsuit

Not so my friend. I've worked out and ran for many years, I just don't have the need to make the rest of the community have to go around me or get in their way or slow them down.(Or try to get myself killed while I'm being healthy).

So far the people I see ruining on Duplex are the same smug types that put on the grunt show in the gym. Or perhaps they paid enough money for their shoes and athletic attire that they want as many people to see it as possible. Or maybe they weren't enough of an inconsiderate dick during the day in their middle management position that they have to be one after work. Who knows...
