Ridlehoover is lying through his teeth. I live on Kellwood Way. Lake Carolina has not cleaned up anything from our street or sidewalks and they have left a live wire from a street lamp we pay them for on the ground for three days. If it was not for the fine group of individuals who live on my street we would all be walking and driving on glass and nails and someone would have been electrocuted by now.
Just shut up

If you can afford to live there you can afford your own cleanup. HOA's are a waste of time in money all the way around. Most are a bunch of Nazi wanna bes

Wow. I did not realize that homeowner's associations were responsible for all of that! That is because they are not. Y'all only pay $45/month. That takes care of the upkeep of the common grounds, street lights and a pool, if you have one.

Pick up the phone and call SCE&G regarding the broken street light. Are your fingers broken?

Everyone on the block should work together to clean up and quit being so darn lazy and acting so helpless.

Streets, sidewalks, and lamps are common areas maintained by the HOA (supposedly). The HOA president lied and said they provided a service that we pay for that they did not provide at all. I cleaned up my own yard and helped my neighbors clean up theirs. You stay classy Lexington.

I wouldn't move to the "LC" if the houses were free. Forest Acres has better police/fire response better lots/trees and light traffic, little pretense.

HOA...They take your money, tell you what you want to hear and provide nothing. I'm not fussin', just sayin, you have to be stupid to join a HOA.

Oh, by the way, go back to IL, Delta, USAIR, United, ComAir and any other airline serving Columbis will get you there in under 4 hours!

Y'all should check out the CC&Rs because it seems the HOA is responsible for providing y'all with the requested services. Maybe y'all should quit calling the HOA and start calling your lawyers.

You dont have a choice whether or not to join an HOA anymore in new subdivisions. It is part of the deal when you buy.
If you only pay 45 a month then you are getting off cheap.
Mungo subdivisions have the worst HOA. The Nazis for Winrose Place are absoultely AWFUL. An elitest (in their own minds) group of nosey busy bodies that do what they want to their homes and lawns and ride everyone else's butts for wanting to do things.
The only good thing I can say about my HOA is that they haven't raised the fees in 10 years.

I talked to a lady this morning, from the Lake Carolina Home Owner Association. I told her, that I live in Berkeley, and that a tree landed on my house, damaged my roof and tore some windows out, on the ground floor. I asked the lady if she could help me out, or give me some advise of who to call to board my windows, since I could not find anyone I called to board my windows. I told the LC lady, that I did not feel safe with my kids in the house with no windows, and that my husband is serving overseas with the military. The LC lady said: "NO, I cant do that! I cannot help you." I also told her that a tree from the Lake Carolina side is leaning about 30%, and could fall any minute hitting my house, and I don't want any more damage to my house. She said someone should be out by the end of the week, and take care off of the tree. She knows, that the tree is not on my property, but on Lake Carolina's side. I just paid my $590.00 Home Owner Association for 2008, and thought, Lake Carolina would take take of me, in case I needed some guidance! My builder Essex gave me the guidance I had needed, for someone to come out this afternoon to board my windows, thanks to The Improvement Co, from Lexington.

let it sit in your yard long enough...then you'll see where the fees are going....right into that person's pocket who will come and tell you that you have so many days to get it cleaned up b/c it's an eyesore.

HOAs do have their place. BUT, once they have one over aggressive member that ticks one person off, the HOA loses support by the owners. Once the tarnish is there, it is extremely hard to remove if ever. They are good in the beginning, but fizzle in interest and participation quickly.
The problem I see the most is enforcement of the regulations. Once one is broken and nothing is said, the entire set of rules becomes basically void. Most of the time there is not a 'punishment' the HOA can use other than sue for specific performance.
It does look like the board would be calling SCE&G and others to come fix stuff or make extra trash pick ups for the common grounds. Provide security to keep gawkers out. Once it is on the private property, the owner needs to be responsible for clean up.

As former military wife I feel for you having to handle this on your own. It's a tough road for military families.

However, have you contacted your homeowners insurance company? State Farm, Allstate and all the others have had ads on the radio about how to contact them for immediate response. I know from experience that State Farm has been very proactive in getting help to those that need it.

Your HOA is not a babysitting service.
