unless you ride you don't have a clue ! people in cars don't pay attention to each other much less a motorcycle funny thing about all these eyewitnesses where were they when the news crew was there why are the cops still investigating ?
1 guy saw what i saw but i did not witness THE CAR PULLED OUT IN FRONT OF THE BIKE! THATS ALL THAT MATTERS FAILURE TO YIELD THE RIGHT OF WAY! since when does a P.O.V. have the right of way to oncoming traffic? maybe you should review your SC drivers hand book or get the english version instead
From you post, I see you have a great grasp on the English language.

My husband rides a motorcycle due to high gas prices, although he has ridden recreationally in the past. He is a very cautious biker. But, it isn't his driving that worries me - its the car drivers that don't look for him. He wears a helmet and would never think of proceeding through a red light, even though the law allows it now. Someone commented about the new red light law, and I think that was so inappropriate. Especially when considering a light wasn't involved in this accident. It appears the driver didn't look thoroughly or tried to beat the bike crossing the street.

The driver of the car thought that the biker had to stop for 2 minutes so he could turn in front of him. It's some new crazy law or something....

No, from Columbia US 1 North will take you to Camden and eventually to Maine, South from Columbia goes to Aiken and Augusta and eventually through Jacksonville and to Key West. Try looking at a map.

this poor kid never had a chance he is doing between 45 and 50mph and then POW! a car!! like hitting a brick wall
Why ? because I didn't see that big bright headlight that resembles a train!
more to the truth he's on a bike he won't hit me i'm bigger he will see me and swerve or he will brake a total lack of respect towards the biker !
I passed by this accident today and i saw the boy covered in a sheet and then I saw the bike scattered all over the road it brought a tear to my eye I saw the car facing in the opposite direction I knew then what happened
tell me ma'am / sir how could you not see that bike ? if you read this tell me what was going thru your mind when you saw him coming at you and you turned in front of him ?

WEST COLUMBIA, SC (WIS)- The highway patrol and the Lexington Coroner's Office have released the name of the man who died on Highway 1 Thursday in a motor cycle accident.
In a press release from the Lexington County Coroner's Office, Coroner Harry Harman said that 19-year-old Joshua Abbott was driving a 2007 Honda motorcycle northbound on Augusta Highway when a 1993 Toyota Camry traveling southbound attempted to make a left turn on to Jessamine Road. Abbott's motorcycle struck the vehicle as it was making the turn.
Abbott was wearing a helmet, but he died at the scene from body trauma.
The accident occured between #1 Fleamarket and Redbarn Fleamarket at around 3 p.m.
WIS did speak with a man who says he saw the whole thing.
"I looked back and seen this black car and I said to myself,'I hope the black car stops.' And as soon as I just got the words out of my mouth, that's when the car pulled out in front of the motorcycle." He said, "It looked like it exploded when it hit."
The accident is still under investigation by the Coroner's Office and the highway patrol.

I am amazed at the number of people who have the guts to ride a motorcycle on SC Dieways. I am afraid everyday to drive in my van, much less a motorcycle. This is a tragic story and my prayers go out to the family and friends of the young man.

My prayers go out to this young mans family and friends.
For all that posted a response or are reading....take a lesson here and whether you drive a car or motorcycle take a moment to slow down, pay attention to your surroundings. Everyone is in such a hurry nowadays.
This was a horrible ACCIDENT....there were faults on both sides. Anyone of us can be involved in an accident - they happen in a split second, there is no way to avoid them. But if we all slow down a little and pay better attention we can have a better chance at avoiding horrible accidents like this.
I hope everyone takes care, slows down, enjoy your surroundings, learn north, south, east and west :-) Be Safe!!!!

Josh, Captain, live, What35, MiniMe, Ben...I assume each of you were in some fashion a witness to the tragedy with the insight (or lack there of) that you all provided.
WLTX should be ashamed that they allow such "Inappropriate posts" such as posting crap as, "the driver...probably did this...or the rider may have done this..or any other any other, "I'm tired of ....,"
such comments may or may not relate to this unfortunate situation.
One should know the facts prior to commenting on such a tragedy.
Excuse me? My comment was not mean or short sighted and it wasn't personal against this young man. I sold mtc insurance for a few years..and I kept up with the statistics. Geeze..

Prayers to the family of this young man. I am very sorry for the loss of his life.

T H A N K S !!!!! It's hard to imagine that people that dumb are out in the public. Wonder how they get from location to location.....
This is about the funniest post I have ever read on ANY forum. You must not get out much or have your head in the sand. On any typical day that I drive my vehicle, I encounter countless numbers of stupid people. Sit beside any road and watch how many people seem to think they can drive and talk/text on a cell phone while driving, when most can barely walk and chew bubble gum at the same time. Pay attention to your rear-view mirror and count the idiots that follow you too closely. Pay attention to the brainless people who fail to use turning signals "properly" or at all. Not to mentin the morons who cut you off, pull out in front of you, or as in this case, making a left turn in front of you.

I used to be offended that Southerners have always been stereotyped as stupid. As each day goes by and I am victimized by mean and stupid people, I am no longer offended, but now I totally agree. I am just afraid taht one of these days I will be pushed too far and will have to commit some vigilante justice......especially since law enforcement can not or will not protect the innocent victims on SC Dieways.

I do, by the way, agree with your post.

I used to live close to this inter- section. When one is attempting to turn onto US1 from Jassimine the telephone pole in front of the convience store obstructs your view of the 1st lane of Lexington bound traffic. I have had several close calls here. SCEG should find a way to remove this hazard!
