Confusing to me, is that you can not make a left on Jessamine from Hwy 1 if you're traveling south

Yes you can. South bound would be toward Columbia.

You're correct, to make a left off U.S.1 onto Jessamine, you would have to be traveling North on U.S.1.

If South bound is toward Columbia, how then can you travel in the opposite direction and go to Key West, FL.?

I'am so dam sick and tired of hearing that same line I didn't see him
this poor kid never had a chance he is doing between 45 and 50mph and then POW! a car!! like hitting a brick wall
Why ? because I didn't see that big bright headlight that resembles a train!
more to the truth he's on a bike he won't hit me i'm bigger he will see me and swerve or he will brake a total lack of respect towards the biker !
I passed by this accident today and i saw the boy covered in a sheet and then I saw the bike scattered all over the road it brought a tear to my eye I saw the car facing in the opposite direction I knew then what happened
tell me ma'am / sir how could you not see that bike ? if you read this tell me what was going thru your mind when you saw him coming at you and you turned in front of him ?
heres the story people as reported by channel 10
my heart felt sorrow and sincere prayers go out to this family for the loss of their son

WEST COLUMBIA, SC (WIS)- The highway patrol and the Lexington Coroner's Office have released the name of the man who died on Highway 1 Thursday in a motor cycle accident.

In a press release from the Lexington County Coroner's Office, Coroner Harry Harman said that 19-year-old Joshua Abbott was driving a 2007 Honda motorcycle northbound on Augusta Highway when a 1993 Toyota Camry traveling southbound attempted to make a left turn on to Jessamine Road. Abbott's motorcycle struck the vehicle as it was making the turn.

Abbott was wearing a helmet, but he died at the scene from body trauma.

The accident occured between #1 Fleamarket and Redbarn Fleamarket at around 3 p.m.

WIS did speak with a man who says he saw the whole thing.

"I looked back and seen this black car and I said to myself,'I hope the black car stops.' And as soon as I just got the words out of my mouth, that's when the car pulled out in front of the motorcycle." He said, "It looked like it exploded when it hit."

The accident is still under investigation by the Coroner's Office and the highway patrol.

I'm willing to bet the person in the car was talking on a cell phone. Any takers?

I agree....every vehicle I look at seems to have a cell stuck to their ear.

I used to sell mtc insurance from a local mtc dealer and so many of my customer's ended up being fatalities. Car's just don't see them, I have never understood that. I look for them, I know they share the road.

I heard there were two bikes traveling at high speeds toward Lexington ( trying to beat the train at the crossing behind Burger King) The driver of the car did not see him until too late. I came upon the seen at 2:30 the police were knelt down by the victim who was lying in the street a few feet from the bike in sock feet.
When I came back by (picked up child at school) around 2:40 EMS was there and had covered him with a white cloth. Very sad I feel sorry for all concerned especially the boy's parents.

First of all I feel for the family of the rider. I have two boys of my own and I don't know what I would do if anything were to happen to one of them.

I don't care what anyone thinks if the vehicle turned left infront of the bike it is thier fault! It's the same if it were a car.
I ride myself. I have been run off the road numerous times and hit while sitting at a stop light. People just don't pay attention while driving! Talking on thier cell phones, distracted by thier kids or whatever.
O and the law being passed about running a red light. If you would take the time to research it you will see it is not what you think.
It states a motorcycle can make a left turn at a light after a predetermined time if the light does not change. Yes Bikes have a harder time triggering lights than your 3000 pound car.

Well I was wrong. They changed the left turn at a red into straight thru.

The "motorcycles going through a red light" is because a lot of the traffic signals work on sensors that are implanted in the road. Therefore some lights that are on secondary roads that intersect a major highway will never change unless something triggers this sensor. So if a motorcycle is on the secondary road and comes to the intersection, they could sit there for eight hours or longer until another car comes up to trigger the sensor. That is what it is about.
