It will take a few years for the technology to take over, but it will give us time to 'bail out' of the fossil fuels before they run out and we run out of a planet. I know it is not an immediate solution, but combine wind, water, and hemp as power sources and I think we could do it. We already have had the technology, we would just have to build the plants.

That's why I'm against more nuclear plants....we need to be building hemp processing plants and planting fields. Fields that, unlike corn, don't cut into our food supply but CAN be used as food if there were to be a national emergency. I'm just thinking ahead.

No. It is just like using any other oil to cook with, except maybe it has a few more health benefits (the cholesterol-lowering properties).

I hear you DIANE... I've said it before, and I'll say it again... SCEG raises it's rates as much as the US Post Office raises stamp prices.
This is the one that really need to be monitored...SOMEBODY BETTER START MONITORING THOSE COMMISSION BOARD MEMBERS BANK ACCOUNTS, because trust me... the commission is definitely going to grant their (SCEG) request.

I see the Coward is back.
He needs to stick to something he knows whining and watching R Kelly home movies. I hope he gets popped for trying to pickup some kid in a chat room and when they find that little film, they'll add some time for him having it. I noticed he's using the name Realist, and coming back on and complementing himself. He's got a couple of others but they're easy to spot same racist comments and profanity. The little boy mentality just stands right out.

My supervisor at work has an old Mercedes-Benz diesel. He has been known in the past to go to all the local fast foods restaurants and get their used deep fryer oil. He then filters it out and runs his car on it. Doesn't have much power and it smells like someone frying french fries but it gets him to where he needs to go.
Thing is, it's a lot of work to filter the oil as a backyard project. Maybe if industries would get involved....

Subject: The Energy Non Crisis (A must see)

This is a video of Lindsey Williams. It will answer all your questions! We always knew something was going on, but not exactly what. Apparently we are doomed and just playing out the final chapter. This video runs a little over an hour but it is worth it. Put it on and do something else so you can just listen to it. The one thing I hate more than anything else is being manipulated, but there is nothing we can do about it! I guess we can never say anything about the third world countries, because we are about to become one. This was done last year and he knew about the $4 to $5 dollar gas. Please take the time to listen.

Hemp is the male variety of the marijuana plant. It has only trace ammounts of THC(Thats the chemical thet gets people "high")so you would have to smoke a whole field of hemp to get even a little buzzed

I did some research on the subject. Hemp still has its issues, but with work, could factor in as a viable alternative in some areas.

Thank the Lord. After what now, two, three DAYS of trying to convince you....I am so glad that you did the research. Good for you, you are bettering yourself and that is NEVER a bad thing.

Like I've said, it doesn't have to solve ALL of our energy problems, but if it could shoulder even a portion of the burden it is worth looking into. Fossil fuels will not be here very much longer; we've already used up around 80% I believe.

I'm still not as convinced as you are, but it could have its uses.

But you're thinking about it, and that's a start!! All new technology has to have a start and have supporters that start by thinking about it. That's all I wanted you to do....just look into it and don't immediately discount it. I don't know how to say this without sounding condescending, but I am proud of you. You chose to look the info up and inform yourself, and THAT shows real intelligence. Thank you for listening and looking....I will leave you to make up your own mind on the actual topic. Best wishes, smc.

I got ripped-off by SCE&G. My bill is a mess, they helped themselves charging me whatever they felt like. I always paid my bill on time yet they charged me late payment fees, the street light fee went up 5 times in the last 23 months... In NC I used to pay $6 per light, but with SCE&G it's $14 per light! They charge you for the poll too! Where is an area which is not covered by SCE&G? I want to move there. I had enough, the vehicle tax is a rip off as well. Dishonesty will get companies nowhere.

To SCEGSUX - get over yourself. SCEG cannot just charge whatever they like. They are governed by the commission which tells them what rates to charge, not only for electricity, but also for lighting and pole charges. So let me get this straight, you want to have the privilege of using an outside light, but you don't want to pay for the pole? That's like saying you want to own a house and expect to get the land for free. What do you expect SCEG to do, pay for the pole that you use for lighting? Get real, they are just like any other business out there that has to function off making a profit off of you using their services (aka electricity and the pole that delivers the lighting). So what you paid $6 per light in NC and now pay $14 per light in SC. It's the difference between having a low end light (aka - something you could purchase at KMart) versus a higher end light (aka - something you could purchase at Norstrom's). It's the common comparison between any good and service. And guess what, if it comes to the day you get a choice, you're going to be paying MORE for electricity. SCEG will still own and maintain the lines, they'll still be the ones out there turning service on and off and helping out during outages - you'll just be paying someone else to provide your billing. In the end, you'll be getting the same level of service, but will be paying two companies - both have to make a profit. If you don't believe, research the Georgia Natural Gas market which deregulated over the past several years and see how their costs were affected - or better yet, ask a customer of these services. I get tired of people saying SCEG "is ripping people off" - they couldn't if they tried. That is like the gasoline companies "ripping people off" - they are not, they are governed as to how much they can charge, just as utilities are. So to put it short and sweet - GET OVER YOURSELF - and try to do some research before you start posting uneducated BS!

There's a lot of complaining but no action. If you want to insulate yourself from future rate increases, there are many programs available to home owners. Energy efficiency programs with tax incentives and low interest loans. SCE&G have net metering agreements for those who want to install wind, solar PV or micro hydro generation. There are other programs available in S.C. for energy upgrades and then there's the 30% Federal tax incentive for alternative energy. It's YOUR tax money, use it or lose it. Try: www.dsireusa.org click on your State's map for incentives in your State.
