I would like to know more about her and why she escaped besides wanting to be free of course. I know that she is 60 years old now but is she dangerous? What is her story?

Why didn't they give her more time for escaping? She served 30 years for the murder BUT what is her condidtional parole? We as citizens need to know about this.

why give "LIFE" if you're eligible for parole? That's part of what's wrong with our system; the guilty usually end up back on the street.

I can't believe they would let such a crazy woman out of jail...I don't care how old she is she's still insane. Anyone that would hire someone to kill their bf and then escape from jail deserves to rot there.

Does anyone know why was she paroled?

If she was paroled, conditionally or otherwise, why is she still listed as an inmate @ the department of corrections, with a projected parole date of 05/02/2009? Once an inmate is released from the department of corrections, they are removed from the system. Looks like WLTX once again has their story mixed up!!!

As you can see the SC system is messed up. If they kill somebody they need not to even be eligible for parole. They needed to give her more time for escaping. Leave her in there with no recreation time, no air condition and no three hot meals a day. We are paying taxes for their mistakes and letting them have luxuries. As her photo looks she has makeup on and some type of hairstyle that had to of had at least a curling iron. These people did crimes and we are paying for them.

There are 3 primary way women commit domestic violence.

1. Pit men against men as in this case.

2. Poison their significant other

3. Pick up a weapon to compensate for the strength of a man.

Women rarely serve their sentences imposed by jurors and judges. The domestic violence industry members - i.e. Sistercare - use the premise these women were abused and that is why they kill. Some examples are the preachers wife in Tennesee

and the two cases in Missouri

Unfortunately, dead men cannot defend themselves.

Welcome to the domestic violence "industry"

I bet she opens up her own day care center or tries to get work at a nursing home.

Sadly, I'm betting that's more accurate of a guess than others. SIGH!

I have researched Pee Wee Gaskins for about a year now.

Did Suzanne Owens deserve to go to prison for being involve in a murder?...YES

Did Suzanne owens plead guilty to the charge of paying Pee Wee Gaskins to kill this man?...YES

Was it ever proven that she actually paid to have this done?...NO

Did she have any chance of being found NOT GUILTY of this crime while constantly being associated with Pee Wee Gaskins?...I seriouslt doubt it.

A few things the media forgot to mention about this whole case:

Suzanne was sentenced to life in prison but with parole after 10 years (seems most media outlets forget that little add on of "parole after 10 years"). The first 5 years of her incarceration she was a model prisoner. A guard who had been affected in some way by Pee Wee Gaskins decided to make life in prison rough on Suzanne. Out of nowhere she began receiving behavior write ups. She accepted whatever was given her. She was treated as though SHE WAS PEE WEE GASKINS.

To those who believe Suzanne Owens lived in a "country club" prison, you had better research a little more.

One thing I have not seen on any discussion board or media reported since the announcement of Suzanne's parole:
John Owens and John Powell

Those guys plead guilty to actually participating in the murder with Pee Wee. Suzanne was not even there.

John Owens, I understand, was paroled after 3 and a half years. John Powell was paroled sometime in the 90s. I guess it was an oversight of most media outlets of the lack of reports to the public on those guys. I have to wonder if the news reported this and if there was a concern in the community about Powell and Owens?

As I stated above, Suzanne Owens deserved to go to prison, she went to prison and she bore the brunt of what Pee Wee askins did...for 27 years anyway.

When people blindly believe what the media tells them, it won't be long before US citizens will accept a $10,000.00 fine for speeding. Kind of like we are now "conditioned" to believe $1.79 is a cheap fuel price.

honeyspider, I believe there is one man still incarcerated that took part in the Pee Wee Gaskins killings. And don't forget, she had to do more jail time because she escaped for awhile.

Court transcripts state Suzanne was given an additional 27 months to run concurent with her sentence because of the escape.

Suzanne Owens was treated differently and harshly in prison for the simple fact she was associated with Pee Wee.

I am in no way denying she made a mistake and should have been punished but before the media tries to allow the community to pass judgement and pronounce sentence, they should be objective and tell the whole story...this was clearly NOT the case here.

What man associated with Pee Wee are you speaking of? Walter Leroy Neely?

honeyspider asked, "What man associated with Pee Wee are you speaking of? Walter Leroy Neely?"

Yes. Isn't Neely still in prison?

I'm sure she was treated harshly as are all prisoners in South Carolina's prisons, except for maybe Susan Smith who gets media attention and can call attention to any mistreatment.

If Neely is still in prison, I have not been able to find out. I have searched extensively for him on the SC Department Of Correction's web page with no luck. I think he might have died.
Leroy Neely's involvement with Pee Wee was a totally different case than Suzanne's.

A Florence Morning Newspaper article dated April 22nd, 1977. Three Enter Guilty Pleas in Yates Murder Trial. Judge Dan F. Laney asked Suzanne Kipper "Long Legs" Owens if she were guilty, she paused at lenght before answering hesitantly, " I'M Guilty".
