Having sex is better than killing a group of kids or being on drugs...

The interesting thing I find reading the story on WIS is that it appears that the parents of these students are blaming everyone except the child and themselves. As a parent myself, no I don't want to think that my children would do something like this but if it does happen then they will be responsible for their actions. The parents involved here seem to be passing the blame on elsewhere. Where is the accountability for these kids?

At least WLTX's story doesn't make it sound like this is all the chaperones' fault. I went on overnight field trips in middle school, and having sex with boys never entered my mind. Here's some questions for you: what kind of home life do you have that you think it is ok to have sex at 13 or 14 years old, on a school trip no less, right under the noses of your teachers and your friends' parents? What if the chaperones had caught the girls in the boys' room? Then we'd be talking about punishing the chaperones for invasion of privacy, or saying they should have found them earlier! This was planned and orchestrated, so unless there were room checks every 20 minutes, this was going to happen. Seriously people, the only people who should be punished are the students who knowingly and willfully committed these acts. They knew exactly what they were doing, and now they want to pin the blame on someone else. What blows my mind is that the parents are letting this go on. The suspension is an appropriate punishment. It gives these kids (and their parents!) a few months to realize that actions have consequences, and serious actions have serious consequences. Welcome to life, kids!

What?? These kids are growing up extremely too fast now...I think the chaperones need to be punished as well because they should of had the rooms monitored a little better than that because to me it seems like they neglected their duties as chaperones...what a shame

I couldn't agree with you more, Rachel! These parents need slapped. The girls went to the trouble of sneaking so that they wouldn't get caught! Were the chaperones supposed to have crystal balls to know the kids were sneaking out of their rooms while they were sleeping? Or were they supposed to work 24 hour shifts and not sleep themselves in order to monitor the hotel hallways? These are 13 & 14 year olds, they know full well what they did was wrong. They even took precautions to conceal their mis-deeds. Accountability rests on the kids and parents, not the chaperones.

Could not have said it better myself. If I was one of the parents involved-you can be confident that there would be some severe consequences in addition to the suspension going on in my house. If these children are not made to be accountable for their actions at 13 and 14-society should be afraid of where they will end up at 17 and 18 years old. Parents need to take their jobs seriously. Raising a child is not easy. We are not supposed to be our children's friends or buddies. The more parents realize this the better all of our children will be.

I'm pretty sure the chaperones checked the rooms before bedtime. Not to say they shouldn't take some of the blame...but what about these grown-azz kids...they are old enough to know right from wrong!!!

They were chaperones not baby sister! It wouldn't have happened had these kids been raised RIGHT.
