Unfortunate accident. Deer are bad enough when driving a car or truck but on a motorcycle... Yikes. I grew up with motorcycles and loved them. My brother and I rode them for years, until just like our father said, when you get a little gray in your hair, and gotta start thinking twice about getting on one, it's time to quit. Still get tempted on some sunny days, especially when I pass some bikes on the road. Those new Harleys start looking really great. Took a ride down the autobahn in Germany years ago, that no speed limit thing was fun, until I found out they have junebugs over there too.

Hey Chuck just to inform you it is not legal to ride in the bed of a truck, regardless of age, same goes for a seatbelt, for any age. A seatbelt violation is now a primary offense; meaning we can stop vehicles for that charge alone. Obviously, a bed of a truck does not offer a restraining device, so said occupant/driver would be in violation. So, there ya go. Either or, hate that this accident occurred, I just bought a Victory and I am slowly becoming competent. I am curious to know the speed of impact, that would answer some questions I have.

Again, refusal to wear a helmet while aboard a motorcycle claims another ignorant driver. When will they learn?

LOL!! dang deer.....

seriously though, this is yet another tragic accident. these riders made the choice, though. it is their right. and there will sill be the folks (ABATE, and others) that will defend this choice.

it is a matter of choice. good luck to the familes affected.

I will be at the statehouse today defending that choice. Right or wrong it is still a choice, and with freedom going down the toilet, what choice will we lose next. NO I am not against wearing a helmet, but I am against being forced into doing anything....and I myself do wear a helmet more often than not.

It's a matter of common sense, a helmet and Murphy"s Law, not physics.

"but the 45-year-old passenger died at the scene"

It was not the driver that died it was the guy on back. Plus deer have killed people in cars also. Should we were helmets while driving?

Maybe the deer should have been wearing a helmet. After all, wearing a helmet saves lives, right? So if the deer were wearing a helmet the passenger may still be alive. After all, wearing helmets save lives.

There has to be someone over 16 if there are children in back of a pickup.
