I agree completely. I also think it is total BS that we can't use asbestos any more. And if somebody doesn't want to be exposed to asbestos, they don't have to work for my construction company. Oh, and lead paint. Paint lasts much longer with lead additive and if parents don't want their kids getting sick, they should teach them not to eat the damn paint. Those poor pathetic whiners who work in bars and restaurants complaining about second-hand smoke, guess what, you are not required to work there. Go work in an office somewhere and be a cube dweller.

Complete and utter nonsense, let the business owners decide whether or not they should have a smoking section. Patrons will vote with their pocketbook and simply choose not to frequent establishments with government regulations like this.

If California can ban smoking in bars and restaraunts (and they did it years ago) so can South Carolina. And for all you folks that say it will take away business, hogwash! Business actually increased in CA because now the non-somking majority could actually go out and enjoy themselves.
Just what we need to become, just like California. Will Columbia be the next San Francisco?

I was off work yesterday afternoon... stopped by Applebees, had a nice steak dinner and some Chivas Regal. Had my usual after dinner cigarette. Nothing like a good bar, with some good food, some music and atmosphere. I worked in some bars and clubs over the years and love a good bar.
Let's hope with these challenging economic times, that bar owners can withstand the loss of additional customers due to bans and laws on smoking. I stopped going to Fatz when they banned smoking.
Wow, you need to expand your dining repertoire a little bit if the word "Applebees" is what pops in your head when you think about a "nice steak dinner" and "a good bar". I can only imagine how excited you might be if you made it to an Outback or Longhorn. hahaha

Yikes! I owe about 6 grand for today. Who do I have to send that to. That'll teach me to have chili before going for a run!

I'm already nostalgic for that funky fresh bar "aroma" that clings to my clothes and hair whenever I come home from a night on the town.

I operate a bar in Columbia, but we do fall under the ban. Greenville recently passed a similar law which also made it illegal to stand outside the front door or in the parking lot of a restaurant and smoke. I have not seen a copy of the actual ban. Does anyone know where this can be found?

Wow!
You have an apostrophe in "Grassed area's" but not in "Its"
You capitalize "Diesel" but not "or" at the beginning of a sentance, or your second use of "lexington" (among MANY other capitalization and punctuation errors)
Thank you so much for proving my point that smokers are far less educated, as a group, then nonsmokers!
Well thanks for pointing out my grammar mistakes. Shows how much of an Anal retentive person you are.

Fact: No matter how smart you think you are, if you lack common sence you become dumber than a bucket of bricks.

Carry on Mr.Critic!

LOL.... You cast judgment rather hastily. It was the nearest water hole; I was hungry and needed a little down time. At least it was not a Big Mac or a Whopper.

My dining repertoire has included some rather exquisite meals in some rather distant places.

Best meal I ever had was at the Au Pied de Cochon at 6 Rue Coquilliere, Paris, 75001 (That's the Pig and the Meal for the unenlightened).

I spent 24 years in the military and always put aside a few bucks to get into some rather exquisite places just to see how good the cuisine was. The waiters were of course French and suitably arrogant.

Second best meal was at the Prime Steakhouse at Bellagio, in Vegas. Great meal, but I had to for go the offered shot of Chivas Regal Royal Salute and chose the 12 year old instead. At a mere $1,050.00 bucks a shot, it seemed the most economic course of action. Besides, there was no olive pick included.

London had some great places but the Brits are a bit too bland. Fish and chips are a treat. Italian and Spanish cuisine is a bit too spicy. The Greeks have a grease thing. As far a haggis goes, believe every bad thing you’ve ever heard about it, although Glasgow does have some suitable restaurants. Korean and Japanese cuisine has some points, but sushi is really fish bait in disguise. Indian restaurants should be banned just to protect the ozone layer from the resulting gas levels.

Outback…. Yuck!. Pseudo Australia cuisine, based on an advertising gimmick. The Longhorn here is below par, the one in San Antonio is far better.

Anyway have a nice weekend.

The kind where it takes two days to get the funk out? Sort of like New Orleans, the first morning after a long week of parties. The streets crew are out sweeping down the mess and hosing off the side walks. Yep!! Been there done that.

Big cities like New York and Washington DC ban smoking indoors. States like Florida ban smoking indoors. Whole countries like Ireland and France ban smoking indoors. All are surviving quite nicely, in fact restaurants and bars have seen an increase in business not decrease as they feared. Time to ban smoking indoors in South Carolina, lets be one of the first instead of one of the last this time around.
"Let's be like everyone else" is a lame argument. If you like New York and Washington so much, why don't you move there?
Thats BS

Hey, I've got an idea...If you're going to dip and spit when you go out, take your OWN darned cup.

this has been one of the more entertaining threads of late. i hate cig smoke but i really am not prepared to say that this law won't be detrimental to local bars. i hope im wrong, but just because cali fared well doesn't mean cola will do as well. the southeast has a higher percentage of smokers, and cola's restaurants and bars just dont have the tourists that charleston relies on. my point: if you support this ban then please support your local bartender if he goes smokefree!!

i can uderstand it but i think they should have bars and food establishments as well that are for smokers if there is a sufficient exaust system installed you won/t even notice the smoke and if you hire people who do smoke then there is no prpblem
i understand the fear
but i don't like my government dictating where i can smoke
