Ya know, I can remember Harry calling me, then me calling Harry to just talk about some of the crazy stuff posted in the forum...sometimes he would call me just to check on me, given the turmoil life had been dishing me. I always felt better after talking to ole Harry. Some people make a little indention in your life when you make friends with them, but Harry made a BIG OLE DENT. He really was like an uncle, just always able to say the right thing at the right time....I used to post a simple little message in the threads for him to give a call, and his response was always..."Look out for 301" the area code where he lived. It did not take long at all for me to enter him as one of my speed dial numbers on my cell phone.

It is grand people like Alphonso "Harry" Matthews, that bridge that "so-called" gap between people of different colors, culture and creed. Harry taught me a lot in our conversations, and to here him tell it, I sure taught him a lot as well. Imagine that, the furthest ends of the spectrum coming together as friends, Harry, an old warrior of great wisdom and old age, and me, a long haired tattooed redneck, Harley Davidson riding single dad.....My world, this entire world, has lost a real inspiration...as the tears roll down my cheeks tonight, I mourn the loss of a good friend, and a REAL AMERICAN HERO.

Godspeed Harry, we see ya when we get there too.

He always amazed me by how loving of people he was. He grew up in an age where friendships were only amongst your own kind and still he embraced everyone as equals. There were times when I saw him go head to head with someone on the forum and then the next minute offering kind and gentle words to those in need of a shoulder. He will always be my lifes role model. I told him that once and he said that he could never live up to that. He always told me to stay true to my beliefs and try to make sure my children learned them too. Harry I can only be half the teacher you were to me. I still picture you as that sweet man with a twinkle in your eyes and a little mischievious smile on your face. I WILL MISS YOU HARRY!

Harry was one of those rare kind of people you encounter on these forums. He was always very polite and expressed himself in some rather thoughtful and incisive ways. Even though his illiness was wearing on him, he was still just plain Harry. We never exchanged a cross word between us, he just wasn’t that kind of guy. Good Night Harry. We will miss you.

Alphonso Matthews, a fellow "poster" known as "Harry" passed away Monday June 23 2008.
Harry was well known in these Topix forums and in the new WLTX forum. He is so greatly missed, and he was a friend, a good friend to me.
Harry had wit about him, and could tangle with the best in these threads. Most of all, he was there for me when I needed someone to talk to about the tuff things going on in my life. He was an elder gentleman with much wisdom, and a charm all unto himself. We exchanged phone calls frequently over the past couple of years, I came to think of him as part of the family....always encouraging me to keep moving forward.
So much I could say, but I will miss you Harry is the best I can do right now. I choose to believe that Harry is with our Father in Heaven, because that is the kind of guy he really was.
Rest in Peace Harry

Thanks Warlock for sharing the sad news with us. I missed my friend while he was with us and will definitely miss him now. He has seen and experienced lot in his life and now he can truly rest from his life's efforts. God be with him and his loved ones. God be with you Warlock because I am aware of how close you guys were.

Daily Horoscope for May 20

Pisces

Your mind is razor sharp today, making it easy to reach decisions and put your thoughts into words. Make the most of this articulate and brainy phase, especially if that means taking part in a discussion or putting your ideas down on paper. If you need to defend your opinions you'll manage to do so without sounding aggressive or dictatorial.
