Review: Anytime Fitness
Worst Gym Ever

Cedar Rapids, IA

#129 Feb 25, 2014
First of all, I am a member at Waverly's Anytime fitness and continuously workout/tan at the same location everyday. I have MANY MANY problems with this gym. Not only is it unprofessional and a bad workout environment, but it is also in poor condition and not taken care of by the staff properly. I say that it is unprofessional because I am only 17 years old and I believe the contract my father signed says that you must be 18 years old to be a member of the gym. However, they did not even ID me. It is a bad workout environment because the workers sit around and talk with those that are not working out. This gym would be a better social spot than an actual place to work out! The staff of this gym continuously let rules be broken. For example, people are not supposed to have cell phones in the workout area, but I am constantly bothered by loud, obnoxious people talking on the phone. Also, the guys in the gym are allowed to talk like absolute pigs. It is completely disrespectful. Lastly, the tanning beds are not kept up with. This is the MOST annoying thing about this gym. I swept my card and the bed turned on, so I wasted my tanning lotion (which is to expensive to waste) on a bed that didn't even work when I tried to use it. When I actually pressed the start button the lights in the bed did not work. Overall, this is the absolute WORST gym I have ever worked out in!

My girlfriend and I were members of the Anytime in our area. We didn't go as much as we'd have liked however and so when our contract came to it's end, we tried to cancel our membership. Unfortunately, due to somethings we weren't aware of, we had to get into a heated phone call and still had to pay for a month we not only didn't want to use, but actually couldn't use even if we wanted to because we returned our keys to the gym. The long and short of it is is, Anytime Fitness and it's affiliats will rob you if you don't read the ultra fine print.

I just recently joined anytime fitness in Hobart, Indiana. I went there a week before joining and met with the manager there, who took the time to talk to me about my needs and what I'm looking for in joining a gym. She then gave me a tour of the facility and asked me if I had any questions to please ask. She showed me how to use the equipment and explained in detail about the personal fitness instructor that could help me with what I'm looking for. The facility is very clean and and I love the fact that after you workout you can go tan. I came home and looked more into this facility and liked what I read. I went back a week later and joined. I absolutely love this place and would recommend it to anyone. Everyone has their own opinion and you get out of it what you put into it. A very satisfied customer.

I joined Anytime Fitness because I work for the railroad and I travel a lot. I also work on call so I need a 24 hour place. Anytime is perfect for that. But, beware not all Anytime Fitness Gyms are the same quality. The one I go to in Oklahoma City on Bardin is fantastic. Clean, nice equipment, never overly crowded, and everything is very well maintained. The one I goto in Arlington, TX off of I-287 is a dump. Duck tape on benches, acoustic flooring coming up in places, and a lot of muscle bound meat heads throwing weights around and running their mouths. I try to just go, do my thing and leave. I would have never in a million years have joined if the first on I saw was the one in Texas.

They told me there was no possible way to cancel my membership. How did you do it?

I have had the same horrible experience at the Alpharetta ga hwy 9 location. The Lester's own it.

The dad, part owner, older man is horrible. I voiced my concern about men using the women showers and leaving loogies on the shower floor. My two concerns were the safety and privacy for women and the sanitary issue. The part owner older man said these weren't concerns of his and that he was working out. He suggested I call back at 11. Not only was he rude, he was short tempered and talks down to people. I suggest you run! They have horrible billing and their customer service is horrible!

First, I would like to apologize for the experience you had at our facility. Like all Anytime Fitness owners, we strive to provide a workout facility with top notch equipment, a safe, clean, friendly, and helpful environment. We want to create an opportunity for people to improve themselves second to none.
Your email was very surprising in that it is literally the first complaint I have even had about this manager, in more than a year in her role. I have owned five locations, and currently still own two, and every manager I have ever had has had complaints.
Our facility isn't for everyone. We don't have tv's mounted on the wall, but rather state-of-the art flat screen LCD tv's mounted on each and every piece of cardio....it sounds like things were rushed, and maybe you didn't get a chance to see those.
That was Good Friday, and our manager was gone by 3pm. She actually had the day off, but came in to help a few members with their workouts. However, she does remember you, as do several other members who were in the gym that day. And, while I believe that you are sharing your experience as you perceive it, I don't believe it is an impression shared by the other people in the gym that day.
I hope you have found a facility that meets your needs and that you are well on your way to reaching your fitness goals.
Sincerely,
DKR

The Anytime Fittness, Cummng Georgia, Hwy 20 west..
This place is way to small to work out. I have no idea what they would do if everyone showed up with a membership ... Fair to say they bought the building next door and they are expanding. Still it's to small, they have these little trainers running around looking at you like you should not be working out without them... Elbow to Elbow...

Not sure if I Have the correct location.
Zipcode 70130 by the nola walmart.
I've been coming to this location on and off among other locations for over a year. Before I joined another location, a return phone call was never received even after I left on voice mail I wanted info about signing up. There are several other small detailed complaints but really not worried about any of them other than this... In the year I've been going to this location plain water has replaced any germ killer solutions in all the bottles from the gym area itself into the bathrooms. One of the restrooms actually didn't have soap in the dispenser for at least two weeks that I was aware of.. God only knows how much longer. It actually became an ongoing game with me to check every time I went just to see how pathetic the sanitary levels were there. Of course you know it's bad when you observe the employees (possibly more than just an employee) coming out of the restroom and still no soap afterwards. You know what I'm getting at.
I'm usually the guy that doesn't complain while I write tank you letters to my clients, hotel or restaurant personnel that gave me great experiences. We all know people are roughly ten times more likely to bitch than to compliment so I make it a point to praise rather than waste my time writing a complaint like this. I'm even one of those guys that believe eating some dirt will only increase your immune system. But we're talking over a year of water - even tasted it to make sure - in the bottles rather than anything that kills germs and lengths of time with no soap in the restrooms.
Come on.. I'll cut corners in my business to save a few bucks sometimes but .... Water .... Seriously?
Guess I'm actually fueling the germ population smearing water and germs together.
Sending anonymously cuz the person-ability of the staff is already flat at best. I'd hate to see it get worse.

Excellent experience from coast to coast. I travel often and have used Anytime Fitness at Dana Point Ca, Leesville, LA, Tacoma, Wa, Purcellville and Vienna Virginia as well as Brunswick Md, all of my experiences were positive. I have been a member of several gym franchises over the last 30 years and Anytime is the only one that has been consistently excellent. This posting is inspired by an occurrence yesterday at the Purcellville, Va club, I had left my hat and ishuffle in the shower area. Two days later after tearing my house and car apart looking for it I called the club and they had it, even stayed around after office hours to give it to me.

My wife signs up for the "Anytime TakeYoMoney" in eaton Ohio. I don't know about the quality of their facilities but she signed up (without my knowledge) to use the tanning beds because they were part of the 24 hour package. She worked 3rd shift and it was convenient to tan on the way home or whatever she did. Well, soon after signing the tanning beds were unable to be used during hours when the place is unstaffed. Something to do with laws is what they said. Now to me that is a breach of contract, right? I guess not to them because it's going on at least 6 months since she told them to cancel and they still take money. My wife also called them and told them to take off the debit card they had because it was her moms and they still take money off that card. Ultimately it is her dumb ass fault for signing a contract when I told her not to. Just remember, if you sign that contract, your doing a deal with the devil. They can break the contract but how dare you! Beware

As I'm reading reviews for a new gym I can't believe I'm coming across Quite the condescending answer from a pompous business owner to who may have been a potential customer. The manager may not have "ever" received a complaint but realize she's received one here. So unprofessional.
