Yes, but one of the richest!!! I don't think Rufus "Freight Train" Jones, Blackjack Mulligan, Wa Hoo McDaniel or Ricky Steamboat have anything on the Nature Boy when it comes to wealth.

Maybe I'm missing the point here, but why exactly did Columbia give him the key to the city? He's not from around here...

No offense to Flair or his fans. I grew up hating his cheating antics but loving his "Woooooooo"... I'm just curious about the key thing because the article doesn't explain why they gave it to him...

Congratulations Rick Nature Boy Flair! I used to go to the Township on Tuesdays in the 70's and loved being at the matches. I used to laugh so hard at the fans that it would make me cry! I don't know how you kept a straight face while all that was going on. I remember Wahoo McDaniel, Andre the Giant, and the Fabulous Moolah to name a few. Those were some great times. By the way, you still look great!

what does one have to do to get a "key to the city" I thought they were reserved for local heros, Flair hasn't saved any lives that I know of...

The key to the city is an award used in several countries, especially in the United States, to honor esteemed visitors, local residents, and organizations. This honor involves the ceremonial presentation of an ornamental key but carries no formal privileges or distinctions.

wtf: all the local 'news' places in columbia have been talking about this for days---question WHY??? is this really news or what? maybe we should be giving the key to someone who has like worked for a food bank for years or dedicated their lives to helping the special olympics or the elderly. this guy fake wrestles and we are supposed to be in awe? give us a break. i am sure mayor bob has all the important stuff wrapped up. he is such a hard worker. after 16 plus years and we still a crappy main street. yea boob.

I think that Ric Flair should be given more then the Key to Columbia, he should be given the keys to Charlotte, Atlanta, and also awards from the Governors of Georgia, and both Carolinas.

So, Keys to the City can only go to vapid celebritys? And here I was thinking they were should go to true contributers to society. Silly me! I'm so embarrassed.
