I've seen television specials about sharks and all of them rate the Bull shark as the number ONE most aggressive. They attack more humans yearly than ANY OTHER SHARK. The marine biologist stated it was mistaken identity. My behind!

According to the specials, they will attack almost anything (unprovoked). The scariest thing is that the Bull shark is the ONLY shark which can survive in salty OR fresh water! They have been known to travel from the ocean into brackish inlets and then into fresh water and back again!

This woman is very fortunate, indeed.

You are blessed to have had such an encounter and still have the limb. I'm glad you're doing well. Be careful next time. I love the beach but one of my greatest fears is coming in contact with a shark. God Bless you!

I feel bad for the lady, but sharks will do as sharks are supposed to do. People accept a certain amount of risk when they choose to swim in the ocean. That is the shark's home, not ours. If you get bitten, it's not aggression, it's merely looking for it's next meal.

By the way....those little things you feel brush and bump your legs when you're in the ocean...fish and sharks. They bump you to decide if you're edible or not. Generally sharks don't want to eat people....seals are better.

Agreed. From what I understand bull sharks are second only to the great white in danger to humans. They also seem to like swimming up the Mississippi River. I think they've been spotted as far up as the Ohio River (which is a tributary to the Mississippi, right?).

Truth is, sharks belong in the ocean, people don't. It isn't the shark's fault as we are more of a danger to them than they are to us by leaps and bounds. We've been over-fishing them for so long now that some species off the Carolina coasts are almost gone.

I am very glad to see the woman wasn't seriously injured.

Now, the grammar situation, however, is another story. Yikes.

Maybe the shark doesn't like people from Texas. LOL

All kidding aside, she's very lucky to still have her leg.

I've avoided the ocean waters for DECADES now.

Yes, sharks were a big reason.

Also stray jelly fish which can seriously damage as well.

Lastly, I had a brother of a friend as me to look at his foot. Like most not-too-bright souls, he had a "sore" on his foot, and reasoned that the "salt water" (of the ocean) would be "good" for it, and soaked the foot with the wound in the ocean.

Well, I knew immediately what I saw.

Some kind of one-celled amoeba animal, not actually a bacterial germ, but a live animal, in the wound.

I told him go to ER, and I was 100% right. Yes, they treated it successfully, but I was forever amazed that this 20-something adult man thought the water where all of these animals defecate into it was safe for an open wound on his foot.

Me? If it's not a clorinated pool, I don't do it. But then, these days, I can't anyway.

she was very lucky but you have to remember that ocean is not a pool with waves. wild animals live in the ocean and we are visitors in their worlds.
