Rude Bicyclists!

Has anyone else noticed how bicyclists with bad/rude driving habits seem to be on the rise?

Twice lately when I have taken a walk outside, I have been nearly hit by a person on a bicycle! The first time was when I was on a sidewalk. A person riding a bike suddenly blew past me on the left. I had no idea they were coming! What if I had decided to turn around or to cross the street? I would have gotten hit.

I am pretty sure you are supposed to ride on the road, not on the sidewalk! Or at least slow down and let the people walking know that you are coming!

The second time was close the the MU campus. This time it was kind of crowded with a lot of pedestrians. I saw a guy on a bike going through the crowd. Instead of going slow and careful, he was just pedalling as hard and fast as he could! He was riding straight at me and kept accelerating. I guess he was just counting on the people in his way to move instead of being respectful and careful!

This is really bad and is stressing me out! I was trying to relax by taking a walk and it just made things worse!

Holy christ don't get me started..........ok too late. The cyclists in Columbia need to get checked. I'm all for riding your bike, it saves the environment, resources, blah blah blah I get it. However, Columbia has gone more than out of it's way to cater to the bike riders. There are bike lanes on several streets in town but I don't see people using them very much. They'd rather ride in the street. I actually had one flip me the bird last week while I was going around him, WTF!?! I think most of 'em are just pissed because they can't afford a car? Also, on an unrelated note, why the hell do they have to wear those stupid jerseys when they ride? Are you really sponsored by 7-11 and Kinko's? Maybe the city could offer a biker etiquette course? Yeah I know I was just kidding. It's just a shame a few doucebags have to give the nice cyclists a bad name.

Another thing I forgot to mention in my original post was the way that a lot of the bicycle riders disobey traffic lights and stop signs.

A couple weeks ago I was riding through a four-way intersection. My way didn't have a stop sign, but the perpendicular streets did. Well, I was driving through when suddenly a guy on a bicycle just drove straight across through the stop sign without slowing down at all! He wasn't wearing a helmet either.

It's a good thing I was far enough away from the intersection to mash the brakes, or else he would have gotten hit!

Some of these posts made me LOL.

I don't ride a bike. IMHO...:) They're okay. The number of cyclists who don't obey the traffic laws are far and few between (from my personal observations). Have I seen a few run Stop Signs while going down hill at a pretty good speed. I just let them go on by.

The only time I ever got aggrevated by a cyclist was when Scott blvd was a two laner. That was an accident waiting to happen. Now Scott's a 4-laner with bicycle paths. Problem solved.

I really don't care where a cyclist rides. As long as they're abiding by the law. If not... Well... They'll get caught eventually.
