A recently introduced bill in Illinois ,...would require anonymous website comment posters to reveal their identities if they want to keep their comments online.

The bill, called the Internet Posting Removal Act, is sponsored by Illinois state Sen. Ira Silverstein. It states that a “web site administrator upon request shall remove any comments posted on his or her web site by an anonymous poster unless the anonymous poster agrees to attach his or her name to the post and confirms that his or her IP address, legal name, and home address are accurate.”

Do we really want to imitate Chicago on anything?

You'd have to look hard too find a more screwed up place on the face of the earth than Chicago.

Chicago seems to be most outstanding for restrictions it places on citizen's --constitutionally guaranteed rights-- especially their right to KEEP AND BEAR ARMS.

Not a single gun shop can be found in this city because they are outlawed. Illinois remains the only state in the nation with no provision to let private citizens carry guns in public.

In spite of these restrictions on law abiding citizens -- guns are plentiful in the hands of armed thugs that roam the streets. They neither respect nor obey the gun laws. They prey, at will, on the law abiding citizens.

Chicago has had a surge of murders that, thus far this year, has outpaced that of U.S. troops killed in Afghanistan -- in spite of strict gun control.

Let's put that in it's proper perspective.

One US city, Chicago, has had more American deaths that the whole nation of Afghanistan (about the size of California), where there is a freakin' war going on. This -- in spite of very strict gun control laws.

Never imitate an organization, a state, a city, or a person that has failed in almost everything it has done with regards to govermnment control (or anything else).

We need more Freedom -- not more goverment.

That government that governs least -- governs best (an idea that was endorsed by Thomas Jefferson).

You are absolutely right. There may come a time in this country where the citizens being armed becomes necessary. The armed forces and law enforcement cannot protect everyone during a terrorist attack. Would be terrorists are waiting for these stupid power holders to disarm American citizens. Illinois blows, in my opinion. Gun rights have to be preserved and the right to remain anonymous has to be preserved, also. Too much government control now. If someone created serious problems on topix or any forum, it isn't like the police or whomever can't get the IP and find out who it is. The old Soviet Union was a police state and America protested against it, yet our own cou.try is heading downhill on a slide towards an even worse police state. Remember Nazi Germany? Remember it or research the way people were treated. Yea, that's what we need hete, all right.
