A dog owner should CARE for the dog. Chaining is NOT caring nor is it taking care of. People like you should never be allowed to have a dog!
I hope you never get it back & hopefully it will find someone who cares about one of Gods creation & recognizes that we humans have a responsibility to care for, protect, & be fair to dogs.

As long as they stay out of my yard and don't keep me awake, we will have no problems. They start interfering in my life, then start counting them down.

I think we need an ordinance controlling people. Dogs deserve better that to be owned by some people. I wish people could get it through their heads that there is more to owning a dog than letting it run around reproducing & becoming a nuisance to other people. I drive several miles each day and I see dogs along the roadways mating & dogs running loose along the roadway. If you can't take care of your animals please let someone else have them.

I have always believed a dog must be on a lease within the city limits. This protects the dog and the general public also. I wouldn't take my dog outside in my own yard without a lease. As for dogs running loose they could be lost or maybe just a stray dog, looking for some food and a pat on the head. Dogs are man's best friend. They give us so much love and are loyal no matter what. It hurts me that people are cruel to our beloved animals. I realize not everyone is a dog lover..but please if a dog is on your property at least call the animal shelter and give them an opportunity to be placed for adoption, if your bothered everyday with dogs on your property try to find the owner and ask them to not let their dog run loose..it usually works and its the nice thing to do I promise it will make you feel a lot better than the other options discussed here.

I don't believe people want to mistreat animals, but when you try hard to keep your yards and flowers looking nice, and here comes the dogs every day, pooping in the yard for the mower to run through, peeing on the flowers and shrubbery and killing them, it kind of rubs you the wrong way after a few times, these items cost the home owner money and labor to maintain and can be destroyed in a few days, dog owners seem to think this is acceptable to people, it is not, you can spend hundreds of dollars in a short time on these things, then have it all ruined in a few days, all that people are asking is to keep them in your own yard, and if they bark, put a barking collar on them, a dog owner has responsibilities as well, also being a dog owner and having a dog run loose, I would be very worried that it would attack someone, or cause bodily harm, and I would get sued, because you are responsible if this should happen, I think people are justified in their request to keep them at home, true it isn't the animals fault, it's the owners, but asking dog owners to keep dogs at home in most situations is useless and a waste of your time, dog owners have the attitude it can go any where it wants, so that makes people take other means on their own to put a stop to the aggervation, in the first place they already know no one wants them in their yard so why tell them.

I read about someone fostering a dog that had been rescued who had a gun shot wound to her neck. You are wrong to take that approach. It is cruel punishment because most of the time you only injure the dog & it has a long agonizing suffering death. This dog had been walking around unable to be caught for about 5 or more days before they captured her. They told how The Vet said they got her in just in time. Flies would've soon been on the wound....and with flies comes maggots. I cannot imagine being the person who was responsible for shooting this dog on judgement day before God.
The bible does say man has dominion over the animals, some for food, etc. Dogs were created to be a helper to man. And the bible does say we have a responsibility to care for the animals he gave us for our provisions. You should remember that everything God created worships him. And he saw all of his creation as "good and pleasing to Him".
You might also want to be aware that it is against the law in the state of Ky to shoot a hunting dog/hound dog. You could get sued & probably a lot more just for having your kicks of shooting at a dog. Shoot the wrong dog and you might get yourself into a heap of trouble. There are worse things than being arrested, fined or jailed. Much worse. You just never know the lengths some people might go to for retribution. Be aware.

I understand completely what your saying. You have a right to not have your lawn messed up. My advice would be to hit them in the pocketbook. Little video cameras are very inexpensive. Use one to document the dogs tearing your stuff up. Then send the owner of the dog a bill or take him to court. You can even use a game camera that takes photos. I'm assuming you have actually seen the dogs do this yourself, because it could be a different critter.
Dogs will be dogs, they bark, it's natural for them. No dog should be subjected to being shocked in his neck for barking. Sometimes a bark is the dogs only first defense, it is a warning to predators. That ability should never be taken away.
People should train their dogs if they are going to keep them. And they should also have them fenced in for their own protection or not have a dog at all. Most dogs only bark in spurts or at certain times or things. My own dogs bark, very loudly but usually not for very long. And I've lived in an area with homes very extremely close to me & never had a complaint. I'm a responsible dog owner, when my dogs would get to barking if I thought for a moment it would disturb someone, they'd have to come back inside. A responsible dog owner does not allow his dog to be a nuisance to anyone. It also does not take that much effort to re-train most dogs. Some dogs though are breed in part for their bark.
Anyway, take your destruction issue directly to the dog owner. That is exactly what I'd do & have in fact done. I have no problem doing that. I love dogs but I don't like a wormy untreated, unvaccinated dog going potty where my dogs go. I spend a lot on my dogs health, & I am to be sure they stay healthy. So go talk to your neighbor, if he ignores you, file a complaint. It's simple. You do have options.

I wished he lived in my neighborhood lol, and I don't live down by the mill, quite the contrary, I get annoyed at dogs running through my yard also, keep your muts at home, or get rid of them, if I wanted a dog I would get one, I don't want one of mine and I don't want yours.

My neighbors lil dog barks day and night for know reason. Can't even open a window to air out the house because of the lil turd. Why can't this be reported and dealt with in this ordinance? They will leave for the weekend and leave them outside barking.

Feed 'em peanut butter. If talking to the owners does no good, feed 'em biscuits soaked in radiator fluid.

To all of the persons who wrote comments in this topic, please
go to the City of Columbia website and look up the Animal
Ordinance. There are seven pages of this ordinance and it deals
with every issue that has been brought by all of you. Some parts
of the ordinance have been around for 20 to 30 years, so it isn't
a new ordinance. Read it and find out what you can do about the
dogs that are a nuisance to you and your family.

The internet creates bravery through anonymous postings, doesn't it? Now you troll, you're equating animals with people. Apparently you have no friends. As to the antifreeze, you're welcome to try.
