I drive out of town everyday too. I pay a local tax on my paycheck. I tried to at least buy gas here till I realized it was cheaper everywhere else. This town is a closed system. One family controls the gas, one controls the cars, one controls the materials, one controls the construction. Been that way a long time. If there were new jobs here, that would be competition to one family or another. Means lower prices, more jobs, less for the people that cornered our market. As long as the people running this town are related to, or owe favors to those few families, the ones that call themselves "real" members of this community, there will be no change. Sure we will get a bank here, and a pharmacy there, but owned by people with very familiar names, built by people with familiar names, given permits by familiar names, and hiring familiar names as managers. Sounds like if your driving out if town everyday you don't have one of those names. Wish I did too. Things are about to get very rough and tight in this town. Some will stick to favoritism, hold strong and fight progress. Some will demand change in governance, and demand new jobs, and opportunities. It will be neat to see who wins. In a couple of years that is.

Our little no good town is great. That is if you no someone who has authority or financial backing. Columbia is a great place to live if you already have a good career or you already have plenty of funds. For the rest of the people all i will say is good luck to you because you are gonna need it.

There are probably only a few people in Adair Co. that are willing to get any kind of factory jobs for our community. Many times individuals have offered to help bring in small factories and they have been rejected. No hipe--just a fact. If the higher-ups of the city aren't for it or can gain it's a no go. I don't know that this will change even if the politicians are removed. If the population has more money then the power level shifts from the few to the many.

just a thought, you all know who owns what in that town, and who is stopping the progress in that town right??? Well an old fashion boycott is what you need "wont bring jobs to this town , then we wont support you business" end of story let the

I love our county , but as far as a bunch of jobs ever coming here not going to happen. One of the first things would be we would have to go wet and that will never happen and I'm not sure i would want it too.

Yes, some of us want a job, without having to drive 25 or more miles to work and back everyday. Especially for $8 an hour.

Then learn to vote better. Unless you do that you can't have jobs. That's just that. Next major election get together a bunch of people that feel the same way and go to the booth. Or keep doin the same, getting the same. The time to talk to potential candidates who would do good for the town is now. There's a lot of preparation that goes into it. Start finding someone willing to be paid 78 thousand a year, plus insurance who wants what's best for this town. The look starts now.
