Factfinder wrote: <quoted text> Actually, the water works in quite the same way as the broccoli, but the broccoli would also add the value of taking longer to chew and ingest thereby giving the stomach that needed time to feel the beginning of fullness. The water is only there to act as a replacement for some of the food, causing the stretch receptors to send the messages to the brain that it is already "this amount of full". It is only a substitute for the extra food this would take for the same sensation, only water has NO calories. Water also has the advantage of helping digest the food and pass more quickly through the digestive tract. The slower food (which is called a bolus once it has been masticated and reaches the stomach) remains withing the digestive tract the slower the entire process of digestion takes (i.e., going from point A, the mouth, to point B, the Anus). A slow disgestive system causes too many medical problems to even begin to address here. For more information, a good source online is WebMD.com . Hope this answers your question. got it. so instead of looking at it like a balloon filling up and stretching from pressure, i need to only look at it as the chemical communication between the stomach and the brain. see, i might be slower, but eventually i get it!

Factfinder wrote: One more comment, there IS actually a medical disease known as Prader-Willi Syndrome wherein the person cannot ever feel the feeling of fullness. They literally LIVE for food, and if it is withheld from them, they often become combative and resort to eating scraps from garbage cans, gum off the ground, sneaking drinking water from the toilet. These people usually have a mild degree of mental retardation. But they can and do function within society. It has sadly been noted that persons who suffer from this Syndrome have been known to literally "eat themselves to death" if left unchecked. They usually require 24 hour monitoring to keep this from happening, chains upon refrigerators and cabinets. Sadly, these folks always feel "starved" no matter how much food or beverage they have consumed. Back to the "starter" before the meal, salad items are great. As you mentioned, broccoli, cauliflour, celery, etc. They also provide roughage to assist with regularity and digestion. These are low in calories, take an extra amount of time to chew, and as stated before, gives the stomach time to send those messages to the brain that it is beginning to fill up. But leave off the salad dressing, even the "low fat and fat free" are BAD. Natural and "organic" (having no unnatural fertilizers or pesticides used in the growing or harvesting process) are always Mother Nature's best way of keeping us healthy. what i wouldn't give to have my own greenhouse. and i'm thinking of (this sounds so brutal) having a cow slaughtered for my family each year, rather than purchasing meat from any grocery. and i use honey mustard. i know i can google it, but your thoughts on it would be welcomed as well.

How would you like it if people made fun of you for the way that you look? If I act the way the people they are talking about did, I deeserve to be called a hog or anything else, If you don't want to be called a hog, don't act like one, most people watch the way you act, rather than how you look.

Having your own cows or pigs slaughtered is definitely much better for you as long as you know what the animals are fed and what kind of antibiotics, drugs, diseases, the animals may have been exposed to. What they eat or have, goes into you, for the most part. It is one of my opinions (for what it is worth) that the use of antibiotics in the animals we eat are one of the many reason we have so many disease resistant antibiotics used in humans (i.e., MRSA, VRE, MRSE. etc.). As to the honey mustard, very good question. I assume you are discussing making this yourself from your own herb garden mustard. The honey used is best if it comes from a hive located within a 5 mile radius of your home. This helps to give you extra immunities against allergens in your area. So if you suffer from hay fever, allergies from your environment, honey from a close hive helps with this. But as everyone should be cautious of, NEVER allow a child under the age of 2 years old (some authorities say 12 monthes) to ingest honey primarily due to the risk of botulism to which the young one is susceptible. But as far as homemade honey mustard being a good alternative to salad dressings, you still have the extra calories honey brings to the table. After all, honey is sugar. So concerning weight loss or management, the simple raw vegetable is a far better choice. Hope this helps with your question.

You are most welcome. I am delighted to be of assistance. Also, I forgot to mention in my last post, those vegetables are best if organically grown. Wash ALL raw fruits and veggies well, including those "salad in a bag" things. There are more cases of food poisoning in the news all the time..... And remember to ask yourselves, did that person who handled my food wash their hands and wear sterile gloves while handling our food? And did they properly disinfect the prep tables where our food layed out, often in fruit fly or house fly infected air.... Sorry but felt it necessary to mention to folks who love those salad bars.

Why are you fatties so selfish? This is a serious question now. You eat and eat, shoveling more than any human was ever intended to eat while others do without. Some of you even get upset when someone else is eating cause you wanted that food for yourself too.

I have a good one for you. My wife and I were eating at the king Buffet in Somerset. Well This morbidly obese man and woman that smelt like Shyt stood by the Crab Leg basket and they just stood there for about 10 min. and would not budge or get out of anyones way . The kicker is that the whole time they stood there, the fat assed woman kept on LOUDLY saying " God I wish they would bring out more Crab legs'!!! Then she kept looking back at the kitchen area and making huffing and puffing noises. When they brought out the Crab legs the woman said "Well its about Damn time"! Very loudly and she got 2 plates full of them and so did her husband. They only left about 5 smal legs on the bar and thats because they could not fit them on their plate (not for lack of trying though). TheseFat assed Welfare slobs amaze me!

You know, the reason why prices are so high for a seafood buffet is people like that! They are also the reason why many buffets stop putting crab legs out. I wonder if you could complain to the manager. Maybe they would steam some for you, since the gluttons hog them all.

I was at Tray's in Columbia about a month ago. There was what looked like a mother and a daughter, so fat and literally stuffed into a booth by the buffet. I heard the daughter say, "have they put them crab things out yet? She could barely turn around to look, and she was obviously too fat to squeeze out of the booth to look for herself. Her mom waddled over to the buffet and came back to the table with a heaping plate of Crab Rangoons. Looked to be about 40 on her plate. Well, she took all of them, nobody else had a chance to get any. Why are people such pigs?
