Why are band students allowed to miss school but attend band practice the same day/evening? If they are too sick to go to school they should be too sick to go to practice. I hear some of them miss all day and then come in 4th block for practice. Why are they not held to the same standards as other student?

Maybe they got to feeling better later in the day, at least they had enought get up and go to go if they could, I have missed a morning at work in time, but went in after lunch.

Please, if they are too "ill" to come to school, they should be too ill to take part in school activities. If athelets miss they have to miss practice/games. But not the mighty band! I was even told that some band students left school today so they could go home and "pack" for the big trip to Louisville. That's not right. Those students should not be able to make-up their work. But they will. Maybe the next time I take a trip I'll let my child leave after 1st block to come home and pack.

Why does this upset you so much? Also, perhaps what you are "being told" is not always the whole truth. If you have an issue w/ it as a parent, I would go speak w/ the principal or the superintendent, not bash the whole band because you don't agree. It bugs me so many folks bash the band, when they should be proud of their representation of this town/state. On a likewise note, IF the basketball team, football team, baseball team or otherwise were allowed to do such, you wouldn't mind would you?

Again, band (arts and humanities) is a core content class!!! Students receive grades in this course. What did your child make on his report card for "Football"? I am not bashing football, I am a huge fan.... but if a student is sick in the morning and come in late for any other class it would be fine....why not band???????

Why is it any of your business if they do miss a class? If it isn't your child, don't worry about it.

If you are talking about the lchs marching band, first thing is that the marching season is over! Second of all we are graded for band. 50 points per practice 100 per game 200 per competition. Third, if we miss to much practice we get kicked out. That happened to a few students, and last, i cannot recall ONE time a student missed school and came to practice, considering practice is directly after school. Think before you post, moron.

I am very perplexed as to why this thread keeps going. There are only 2 reason here 1. You are in the band or a parent of a child in band or a band supporter for what ever reason( likes music, enjoys the routine.they have had.)and 2. The people who are so jealous of the band because of their success--if this was not true, then noone would have a problem with the band at all0

Well, how come the entire town including the schools shut down just because the basketball team is in the state playoffs? It's the same principle. They are "excused" from attending school and classes because they have to practice before the big game! That doesn't happen when the band makes it's yearly trip to state or when they go to Nationals. But that's right, they aren't a sport...that makes all the difference. It doesn't matter whether they are playing music or playing ball, they are still representing a pretty disrespectful town and county with a whole lot of pride.

I am so sick of hearing about the ADAIR CO BAND and the football team that is all you hear I have already graduated from high school but when I was there it was the same thing all the time they was either talking about the band or the football team everybody doesn't give crap about that stuff if you are in the band or on the football team good for you I hope you enjoy that but everybody isn't into those things so why should we have to hear about them all the time we used to have to walk down to the old high school to the old football field and watch the team play and listen to the band during the pep rally I would go somewhere and smoke while all this was going on what about the FFA the FCCLA FBLA or the FCLA are those clubs even still there don't they do anything worth talking about it seems like the only thing that the school systems gives a shit about is the band and football what does band and football teach you besides working together that you will ever use in your future I mean how many band students are really going to need to know what a quarter note is when they are 30 years old
