train the dog to go outside. All you have to do is put him a dog cage, every couple of hours pick him up or put him on leash and take him outside immediately. He will not pee in his cage and by taking him directly to the door he will learn that this is where to go when he has to pee. It only takes a couple of days. First thing in the morning take the dog outside. Best housebreaking method there is, -GUARANTEED.

The dog is 4 years old he does go to the door when he has to go He pees on the cushions when we are in the bed. I let him outside for about 20 min or so before I go to bed. Then when I get up he has done peed on the cushions.

cage the dog near the door at night.
it wont want to go where it has to sleep
and opening the door in the morning
before opening the cage will reinforce
going to the door to go out to pee.

your dog is punishing you for something
you just have to remind it
you have worse punishments to dole out.

If you havent already, PLEASE neuter the dog. Its entirely possible that he is marking his territory, and no amount of crate training is going to diminish his hormones, nor his marking behaviour. The dog is not punishing you, and punishment does not need to be doled out. The dog is only acting by instinct, and until he is neutered, he will continue the behaviour. Neutering also helps prevent other behaviours and diseases, including prostate cancer.

Even if you neuter a male dog or cat they will still mark their territory on things. I have a male dog and cat both neutered and I can't get them to stop doing it. They like going on fabric and I have the same problem about my couch cushions.

How does he get on the kitchen table? Maybe he smells you on the couch cushion. Has there been any new stress in the family in the past few months? Pets do pick up on these kind of things.

that's exactly what i was going to say. maybe he smells your a$$ on the couch cushion. and the kitchen table seems a little hard to believe, are you sure your kids aren't spilling something and blaming it on the dog?

I have 13 cats and 4 dogs, they are all spayed and neutered. Not one of them marks on anything in the house. I still believe neutering, if it hasnt already been done, is the first step. When I adopted a doberman from the shelter, he was about one year old. I had him neutered immediately, and it took a couple days for him to realize you urinate outside, not in the house, but he never did it again.

He gets on the chairs by the table then gets on the table. The kids are in bed when he does this. My husband won't let me get him neutered.

oh, well then it's your husband peeing on the table.

i don't know, i think if you aren't having a daytime problem with the dog, then do what the other guy said and get a cage for the night time, he'll learn, or he'll sleep in a cage. they're only domestic pets if they act domesticated, ya know.
