I wish something would be done about this. It's disgusting and annoying for businesses in the center to have to clean up. It's impossible to get it all cleaned up using a dust pan and broom.

What good is it to have the 'nuisance ordinance' when no one will enforce it. It looks like the filthy parking lot would come under that ordinance. Also the old house beside the City Cemetery should be torn down. Who wants to look at that old mess when they come into town?

All those parking lots in front of Tractor Supply, Family Dollar, and other businesses are privately owned. The City does not own them or the property mentioned that is by the cemetery. These are owned and managed by the owners - not the city. The actual businesses need to make repeated calls to the police and report car tag numbers along with filing a complaint of littering. Those businesses are responsible for having the lots cleaned. They can hire a sweeper. They can also file complaints with the police. I haven’t read what is included in the new nuisance law be proposed. What does it say?

You are wrong. Now tractor supply may be, but the ones in the shopping center are not. Taco Bell owns their own lot and it doesn't cover but about 6 parking spaces total. The city was having a street sweeper clean on sundays but that hasn't happened in months.

I know there privately owned by the companies u mentioned but the fact of it is there not cleaning it and it's the center piece of our town the street sweeper would just have't to make 3 or 4 swipes through the top of the parking lot.The city waste plenty of money on other dumb stuff why not spend 3 dollars worth of gas a week to clean a parking lot?The fist impression on a town is it's looks no one wants to come back and spend there money or vacation in a dirty town, the city is just hurting there self by not sweeping it.

Where in my post did I make mention that those places were OWNED by the City of Columbia? I think you misunderstood what I was saying. Even private property comes under the nuisance ordinance. If it is an eyesore for the city or county, it is a violation. Property that has grown up in weeds, a ramshackled old building. There are lots of things that could come under that ordinance. Yet I haven't seen it being enforced.

That law will never be inforced around here I live down the road from a house that has so much junk piled around it that there is actually a path to get to the door and there are little kids living there I have not called about it but some of the other neighbors have and nothing as been done everybody on this road tries to keep their yards nice and decent then you have the junk yard you have to drive by everytime you go someplace because it is the first house on the road but I didn't figure they would ever inforce it when I read it in the paper

The young redneck punks are the ones that trash the parking lot. They all hang out their and dump all their trash in the lot.If I owned a business their I would put up no trespassing sign up and prosecute anyone that didn't follow the directions........

If you had a pot to piss in or a window to throw it out, you might own a business there, but you don't so you don't, and that means your opinion here is jack and squat.
Every business in that location has plenty of slave-wage Jethros they could put to sweeping the parking lot instead of standing around with their thumbs up their asses. If they don't take enough pride in their business to do a 20 min job, why should the rest of us care? Why should the city spend money on it, don't you think they spend too much already?
Or maybe your problem isn't with the litter, maybe you're just a bitter old has-been that can't stand the thought of a teenager having fun. There are many, many bigger issues in this smalltown cesspool to be concerned about than young "redneck punks" throwing a fastfood wrapper out the window of their rustyass truck. Take a deep breath and take off the tinfoil hat, they aren't kicking in the door of your mobile home, raping your senile wife and stealing your Johnny Horton 8-track tapes.

I tell ya what I'd like to see go in there. A nice little psychiatric office, employed by persons NOT from Columbia. In fact, they need not be any closer than Elizabethtown. Maybe then they would be competent enough to handle these minds of mine.

"slave wage jethros " " standing around with a digit inserted in their rectum " at least they are trying . Everyone has to start somewhere . You ever had a job ? Granted jobs in this slimy town are entry level at best , there is no reason to label and classify them in such a sarcastic manner . To obtain good solid employment one must leave this musty old place . We all know the clique that controls this place and that will never change .

our city police should slap a fine or 2 on the litter bugs all they have to do is set and watch to catch them, oh I forgot its may be some of the good old boys and they just don't get a fine for a little thing like littering.

The statement that they were 'standing around with their collective thumbs up their asses' conveyed the point that they weren't trying, I don't see how you could miss that. Have you ever tried shopping/eating at any of these businesses? Were you impressed by their incompetence and total disregard for customer service, or did you justify it by saying 'those poor fellers aren't making 50K/year, you can't expect them to pick up trash?' My first fulltime job was a minimum wage position stocking shelves, mopping floors, bagging groceries, etc and I was glad to get it at the time. I did not use the fact that I was only making minimum wage as an excuse to be a sorryass slacker with a chip on my shoulder.

You think you sound cute or witty, but what you are really displaying is how ignorant you truly are. I wish I had some of that NSA "spyware" so that I could uncover and display for all to see the true identity of all the idiots like you. Yes, you are a moron. Seriously, take a moment to reflect on what I've said. Are you proud of your Topix post? Does your post seem intelligent to you? Do yourself a favor and stop trying to be witty because it only shows how moronic you are.
