Sounds like Dateline NBC needs to come to this town and figure out what's in the water that's making these children murder their parents.
Michael Cowan and his wife Kelly were shot execution style in 2001. His wife was a Ky state police informant for a drug case. One man died of natural causes, one was arrested but the others are still free.

So many bad things has happened in this town due to drugs. What about all the people who have overdosed and those who have committed suicide. For a small town there are alot of deaths.

I believe you have this mixed up. There were four teens hit head on by another vehicle in the curve out by Holmes Bend. One teenager survived and the driver of the other car. Three died.
You're correct-this accident took the lives of Maury Moran, Rose Bjalobok, and a foreign exchange student from Nicaragua. Rose's sister, Rita, was the survivor. They were in Maury's vehicle (seems like maybe a Chevy Vega or something like that) and the lady that hit them was driving a larger car. Very sad day for ACHS.

It was Betty Ray Yarberry(parnell) that hit them head on, dui I believe, I think she went to prison for awhile over that accident.

This tragic event occurred April 20, 1976. Maury Moran and Noel Duran died at the scene of the wreck or very shortly thereafter; Rose Bjalobok died the following day, April 21. All three were 17 years old.

Tim and Mary Ann Franklin-died May 9, 1991. Their truck slid off highway into Russell Creek in Green Co. The truck overturned, pinned Mary Ann under it. Tim was able to get his daughter (Sydney) out of the water and hand her to an older fellow fishing there. Tim went back in to help Mary Ann and drown also. Sad. Sydney is now 21 years old.

If you look back on it,most of these things had something to do with drugs. So i would say the worst thing to ever happen in this county is when it became drug infested. All started about thirty years ago, reached its peak in the late eighties, and flourished to just lately, the f.b.i came in and slowed it down a lot.But there is still plenty out there.

I lived in Adair County in the late 80's and I don't remember drugs being a problem. I was 18 and I'm sure if it was as big of a problem as you say, I would have had some kind of exposure to it. Drinking and promiscuity were the biggest issues I remember from that time.

I've always thought Adair County was located on some ancient burial ground of lost soles and that's why there is so much tragedy there.

I'm just glad I got out when I did.

Crooked???? You bet... I was in court Wednesday for my buddy who got a public intoxication (HIS FIRST EVER OFFENSE)- 2 people that went before him with the SAME charge got a $208 dollar fine and that was it! They gave my buddy a 90 day suspended sentence for two years and a $340 fine, plus alcohol assessment/ evaluation!! 2 years probation (on a max one year charge???) and a $340 fine, when you just gave 2 people in front of him $208 fine and nothing else??? Then as we are leaving the courthouse, a cop chases us out and confronts my buddy asking him why I was "mean-mugging" him???? I wasn't even looking at that douchebag! How unprofessional. You want your town back- Fire the sheriff and his little minions and if they won't go... get rid of them the old fashion way- up in the hills. By the time they find those crooked muthafuckas, they'll be an artifact! Arm yourselves and stand up for what you believe in- It's the American way!!

Apparently, no one is going to answer about the Jackie Marple murders. Jackie was around 19 or so, and as the story was told, witnessed his parents being abusive to his nephew and snapped. He shot and killed both of them in their home in longhunter's subdivision. He then took his nephew to the childs mother, dressed in camo, covered his face with paint, etc and broke into a friends house. After several hours he surrendered. He is out of jail now, I think he did 10 yrs. This happened in the early to mid 90s.

Drugs have absolutely destroyed a lot of my friends there and it breaks my heart. The spillover effect of drug addiction impacts the entire community in so many ways. I’m sure it’s a daunting task for leadership there to control drugs, but leadership can do better. In the past it seemed that the only measure taken to rid the town of drug users was via locking people away and that proves to be futile in the long haul.
The better solution to mitigate drugs in the long term is through locking in on the big dealers and getting comprehensive counseling/education for the youth and creating other initiatives tbig o foster a better quality of life in Columbia’s youth. Your petty users today are your mainstay dealers of the future.
Columbia’s government currently isn’t structured to affect much change and it starts at the voting booth! It’s your choice foks!
you are right on the money ! i would say the money it would take to do such a program poses a big problem though

Really, is there anything in my post that is hurtful or untrue???? Why don't you mind your own business and not worry about my posts. People asked repeatedly what happened. You can find news articles that go way more in depth than I did. I think if the family was hurt, it was several years ago, not now by my post.
