Why is it that so many couples are splitting up? I am just about to ask my girl to marry me... but I think there might be something in the water in Columbia. Either you split up or just cheat

The odds are against you. Nationwide, the divorce rate is well over 50%. The poorest have the highest numbers. Ky is one of the poorest states.
Every one of those couples thought they had something special and divorce would not happen to them. I'll bet you do to.

Are you a statistic? And yes, I'd like to think we have something special but you never know. What's up with all the cheating gossip on this site. Is that what Columbia people do to past time? Cheat? Surely there are some happy couples out there. ANYONE?

I wish I could tell you there's a secret to a successful marriage, but the best I can tell you is that as long as you both put what's best for each other and your relationship first your odds increase. If either stops failure looms. Take it from experience, the minute my wife stopped she started to lie and became selfish to the point she didn't care about anybody but herself. Just remind yourselves each day to think about each other in a positive manner, and follow your heart.

The only advice I can give is to put each other first! Always remember what is important. Remember how you feel the moment you get married and try to keep that! Yes a lot of cheating does happen in marriages. The best way to approach this is to know that your marriage is important to you!! My spouse has cheated and we are stil together. Everyone makes mistakes and just because someone cheats doesn't mean they dont love you! They just lost sight of what was important. It takes a very strong relationship to make it through cheating but if you truly love each other you can IF you want to. Not everyone does but in my case I did.
My advice: help your spouse in every way you can, be there for them when they need you and show them that you love them. If you dont already have children wait a few years. Children add more stress to a relationship, esp in the first few years of a marriage!

Keep "me" out of the relationship and remember it is always "we". The problem is when spoiled rotten people leave home to get married and they try to drag with them what they have been used to at home. It seems that most marriages end in divorce because of money and selfishness. A lot of people go into a marriage thinking that if it doesn't work out they will just get a divorce. Commitment means nothing to some people.

You are so right! I am dealing with a spoiled brat myself. When he does not get his way, he shuts down... silence! I end up being the bad guy just to get him to talk to me. His parents still wipe his butt (and his face with the same cloth..I hope). I am ready to put this baby in the river. If you see him floating in a basket with a bonnet on his head, wearing a diaper, He looks good but don't EVEN think about it!!!! really!

I agree. My husband has walked out on me after 35 years. I thought we were so happy. I don't at this point think he has someone else but can you image the shock when he just didn't come home???
