Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) announced on the Senate floor Wednesday he intended to filibuster the nomination of John Brennan as director of the CIA, citing concerns about President Barack Obama's policy on civil liberties.

"I will speak until I can no longer speak," Paul said.

Paul, an outspoken libertarian, pointed to what he called the abuses of executive power and civil liberties under Obama's administration. In particular, he objected to the contents of a letter he received from Attorney General Eric Holder that asserted the U.S. government had the legal authority to kill a U.S. citizen on American soil.

"Where is the Barack Obama of 2007?" he asked, referring to then-presidential candidate Obama's criticism of Bush-era violations of civil liberties. "If there were an ounce of courage in this body, I would be joined by many other senators," he added. "Are we going to give up our rights to politicians?"

Paul had asked the Justice Department about the constitutionality of drone strikes and whether they could be used agains U.S. citizens. Holder responded in a letter that conceded the military could authorize a drone strike on U.S. soil

I agree with you.......Obama is an idiot and a waste of time.......but he is our president. I think Obama has every right to drone kill Americans sitting in a cafe or home if they are deemed a threat to him. We don't need no 14th amendment or constitution to protect us from a government that is only trying to right all the wrongs caused by bush. These wacko's like Rand Paul even try to protect unborn babies and let people have guns.......they even want to cut taxes and spending.

under Boehner-Obama spending deals, federal debt per household has been increasing at a pace of about $10,909 per year.

At the close of business on March 4, 2011, when the first Boehner-Obama spending deal took effect, the federal debt was $14,182,627,184,881.03, according to the U.S. Treasury. As of the close of business on March 6, 2013, when the Republican-controlled House passed its latest CR, the federal debt was $16,692,238,790,019.20.

That means the federal government's debt has increased $2,509,611,605,138.17 since the first Boehner-Obama deal took effect.

There are now approximately 115,031,000 households in the United States, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. The $2,509,611,605,138.17 increase in the debt since the first Boehner-Obama equals about $21,817 per household.{ add that to the already $200,000.00 per household previously owed ,..making the total $221,817.00 owed, in the year 2013 per family of 4 in the usa ,...

McCain and Graham had a fit over Rand Pauls filibuster.......Mitch had to go along with Paul and show support if he wants to be re-elected in Kentucky. So the rino's see a shift in power and they can't stand it. I'm proud of Rand for taking a stand and we need more of this in congress. Obama closed the white house tours because he could not find ways to keep it open with the sequester taking effect........that is an amateur move that everyone saw through, all the waste in Washington and all he can do is this childish act to save money.......1.4 trillion in deficit spending and this is his first move.

the European LEFT plans to ban swim suit photographs

early next week ,the EU / European Parliament will vote on a resolution "on eliminating gender stereotypes in the EU", will essentially ban any swimsuit adds or other provocative photographs of women in advertising

it is meant to mark international women's day, after libertarian Swedish MEPs from the Pirate Party spotted the call for a ban in the small print.

the EU's assembly increasingly flexes its political muscle within Europe's institutions.

The proposal "calls on the EU and its member states to take concrete action on discrimination against women in advertising...

North Korea sees he is not for America by the foolhardy cimments he makes.publicly...like never using nuclear weaponry. Yea, liberals hero has damaged our upper hand with propaganda to hold back heathen countries such as N. Korea. Good job.

it all started with LBJ and the so called " war on poverty " ,....
we now have five generations of welfare dependants ,..
their numbers are quickly increasing ,..as the middle class is taxed to death

the American middle class is doomed ,..
the welfare class is having a baby boom

all because of idiot liberal social engineering ,...
its simple and undeniable -- welfare breeds more democrats ,...
Americas best days are clearly over

I agree U.S. Senator Rand Paul is a hero for standing up for the American people on a real issue. Our government has already ordered 30,000 drones for domestic use. That means us. We're the domestic ones the government is buying drones for and Rand Paul wanted a simple answer for a simple question from Brennan. The question was "Can drones be used on the American people?". Brennan never answered the question, which means yes they can. As an American citizen, voter, land owner, business owner, and Kentucky resident I do not agree with my tax money being used for deadly drones used on American people on our soil. So to me Sen. Paul represented our state with courage and strength.
