I called DHS in Chester today for the sole purpose of getting some information. It took forever to get through to someone and when I finally did the lady was rude and had absolutely no idea of what I was talking about but still told me what her OPINION was on the subject. When I asked her if she was sure that this in fact was the truth and not just her opinion (or at least her best guess) she assured me it was.
I politely asked her how she could be so certain when just a minute before she didn't even have any idea of what I was asking about and hadn't asked anyone or tried to look up the answer.
Needless to say the phone call didn't last much longer.
Has anyone else in Randolph/Monroe counties experienced this kind of behavior when calling there.
It's not like I was asking for her to give me anything more than just (factual) information.
Are there other county DHS offices that are more knowledgable (of state policies/laws) and helpful than there?
Does anyone have any suggestions of where to call for information or at least resources of places to get information??
I called Springfield AND Chicago and all I got was a recording telling me they were helping other callers and to call back. The call was then dropped, I didn't even have the option of holding.

Thanks for any and all help you can give me. Have a great weekend.

Yes, I've been treated rudely there. They seem to think they're a private company down there as opposed to civil servants. Try the closest courthouse for a flyer

What kind of information are you looking for? How can someone tell you where to get info if we don't know what info you need?

This is why you see so many folks getting charged with fraud. No one knows what the rules are.

i have had nothing but issues with the monroe/randolf dhs. i was on wic when i was in school in madison county (whose office is extremely helpful, efficient, etc) and then we moved to columbia and were transferred to the chester office.

they were mean, and confused all the time. they acted like every paper they had to hand me was an inconvenience to them. that, compounded with the fact that the office is in CHESTER, and the small amount of groceries i did receive could be bought with the gas i spent driving there, kinda forced me out of the program. now, nearly 8 years later, they still send me mail once a month asking me to make an appointment, despite no longer qualifying for any of it. completely inefficient.
