I called Direct Energy today and they told me that their supply cost would be lower than Amerens, they did not mention putting nything on my house, as a matter of fact, they said it would still be measured the same as before. Not sure if I believe them or not??

Nothing new on your house...just more competitive energy rates. You don't have to do anythingn to receive the savings you are already enrolled. If you want to opt out it is a simple process.

Can we switch from Monroe County Electric to something else? Why can other areas choose gas and electric and we have to get our electric from the co-op?

Because 50 or so years ago nobody would run power to the rural areas. So a coop was formed, and money raised to run lines to the rural areas that nobody else wanted. Therefore the coop owns the lines.

22 years ago I moved from Il. Power's area to Mo. County Coop and the rates were cheaper because they shop around for the best rates from suppliers.(which is what this new direct energy deal is. By the way you will still have to pay Amerin for use of thier lines etc.)

I also have far fewer outages with Mo. County Elect. Coop.

Direct energy came to my house 4 times , very agressive with sales pitch. My argument is everyone's bills are much lower in spring and fall which is when they wanted me to switch and if they are so sure i'll be saving so much, then why do I need a 2 yr contract?

The City and it's ignorant Mayor and City Council convinced the voters that this will be a great deal. Sure it will for two years. Then watch as your rates will increase, or will the city start shopping again for another supplier. It is typical politics with this town. Make decisions from the seat of their pants and lie to the public about it. Just like the Fire District did, or have we forgotten so soon?

I switched to Direct Energy and here is what happens.....you sign a one or two year agreement...after the time has expired your service automatically switches back to Ameren...then Direct hits you for a cancellation fee...this needs to be investigated by someone....plus you don't save any money.

you can check out all the details on amerens website. there is no fee and you can cancel any time. you can also compare the fees and rates with the 7 different company's. you do have to pay ameren a fee for using their lines but you are paying that fee anyway. the only thing that will change is you kw/h. if you stay with ameren your rate will go up and down if you choose a different company your rate will sty the same. ameren will still be your provider if you switch. the law just says they can not be both supplier and provider.
