the paper said she was in the burn unit today - they had to carry her from the house. both her dogs dies in the fire.
we live very close and saw most everything after the firetrucks arrived. took them some time to get the smoke under control (the whole neighborhood smells of smoke), but awesome job done by the columbia fire dept. they don't have many house fires around here and you'd have thought they dealt with it everyday.

Good thing it happened on a Tues nigt. Not saying any time is a good time for a fire. It just so happened that on Tues nights is training night and most of the Fire Fighters were at the station when the call came in. It could have been alot worse had it been on another day. Hope Amy is doing well and thanks to the Columbia Fire Dept.

Just an update, Amy has passed away. She worked downstairs from our Department. A coworker told us of the story today and mentioned they pulled her off of life support on Saturday and she passed away.

I worked with Amy in th CWE some years ago, she was a fun employee to work with! She was vivacious & funny! I know things haven't been going well for her recently but she didn't deserve to die like this. May she find peace & serenity!

Amy Lynn Mehrmann (nee Volkert) did not survive her injuries.

Amy's heart, kidneys, liver, eyes and other vital organs have already been transplanted so that others could have a shot at life.

On behalf of myself and the rest of our family, we thank you for your kind words, thoughts and prayers.

Amy joins her father in death. She is survived by her Son, Andrew; her Mother, Grace Volkert and older brothers, Bruce, Craig and Alan.
God Bless You All
