On Bluffside Road, a couple houses past the cemetery on the left side of the road if you're heading north - several police cars there and the entire property is wrapped with Crime Scene tape.

Anyone know what's going on?

Columbia is going to hell, maybe if the cops would stop harassing people and actually do their job our town wouldn't be going to hell. So sad... Columbia use to be a nice place too many transplants.

Way to go Columbia. Back in the news for some more negative publicity. The bubble is bursting. This town is not the goody two shoes enclave they want people to believe it is.

Exactly!! CPD can spend their day worrying about dogs barking, African Americans driving they town , harassing David B Mueller, and pulling you over for air fresheners and trailer hitches! Guess they don't have time for thefts, break INS, murders, drug dealers! Crime rate is rising with the tax rate and people aren't going to want to live here!!!!

Don't even know who the family is? Since you portray yourself as having inside details, why don't you tell us?

The entire world is going to hell. Can you name a place ANYWHERE where nothing at all happens? Columbia is still a nice place to live.

Leave the police alone, they are the good guys.

Whatever occurred happened last night. We drove by the house around 8:30 and there were police and neighbors everywhere.

We don't know what happened (although there are some telling signs) but things like this tend to be isolated in some way. I doubt there is any serial thing going on.

Who ever said it was murder? All we know is that there was a body found. It could very well have been suicide,or a freak accident. If it was a suicide don't expect further reporting, as suicides generally aren't reported on. We simply don't know what happened so let's stop speculating and wait for more info.

COLUMBIA, Ill. Columbia police say an adult has been found dead inside a home in the 900 block of Bluffside Road, and the community's police chief has asked for the Major Case Squad's help.

The case is being handled as a homicide, said Columbia Police Chief Joe Edwards. No one is in custody as of 8 a.m. Monday, the chief said.

Edwards declined to identify the person who died, or to even say if the person was a man or a woman. He did, however, confirm that it was not a child. He said two people live at the home.

Police were called at 5:25 p.m. Sunday to check on the welfare of a person who lives there. When officers arrived, they found a person dead. The circumstances were suspicious, Edwards said, and he asked that the Case Squad be activated.

Fourteen detectives are working on the case. The squad's deputy commander is Capt. Jeff Wild of the O'Fallon, Ill., police force.

An autopsy is scheduled for Monday morning.

Police have gone door-to-door in the neighborhood, asking neighbors if they saw anything suspicious in the last 48 hours. Edwards said their focus is since about Friday evening.

The neighborhood along Bluffside Road is north of the Immaculate Conception Cemetery.

Most likely a suicide. If so, condolences to the family.

Police said there was evidence that indicated foul play, so the Major Case Squad was activated.

An autopsy is scheduled for Monday morning to determine the cause of death.
Police will not release any information about the person who died until the next of kin is notified. There was more than one person living in the home.
