... Not one day in my life have I ever felt afraid in this sweet little town of Columbia. Today was the beginning of Columbia Daze, a great way to kick off a new year.

At 8pm, "a man in a maroon van attempted an abduction of a child". For the first time in my life, the bubble has popped. Chills went all the way down my spine at the idea of some sick, twisted, insane man taking away a child, in this town.

No one thinks to watch their back while joining the town in celebration.. But this guy just knew how many people would be there, the excitement of the night and try to take advantage. Please, God.. Help us Rid this creep for good.

This was the one place I always felt safe....

It's a damn shame how the world is turning out.

Stay Safe all, Bless the mother that was there.. Bless us all... For this too shall pass.

Im not from your town, though trust me mine in way worse it seems these days from when I was a child, but I received breaking news this evening on my iPhone from news channel 5 of this horrible event taking place and it just sent chills down my spine. Our children are not safe anywhere these days. I for one never take my eyes off mine not even for a second. I just thank God that this mother also kept her child right under her wing or this would and could have been a much different outcome. People watch your children as this sicko and thousands more are roaming our streets and praying on our children. I just hope and pray that this sicko is caught before he succeeds the next time. Where exactly did this occur in Columbia and did the mother catch this perp in the act of attempting to abduct her child?

"Breaking News...... Attempted Child Abduction In Columbia
White Male Driving A Maroon Minivan In Columbia Friday Evening Is Sought For Questioning

On Friday evening, the Columbia Police Department is attempting to track down a white male driving a maroon minivan in Columbia. The man is described as having a buzz haircut with a beard and mustache. There is a possible case of a child abduction which occurred just after 8 p.m., in downtown Columbia. The van's front license plate was describe as being red with white lettering.

A mother in Columbia is reporting someone attempted to abduct her 11-year-old son as they were walking along Main Street in Columbia near Johnny's Pizza. The initial report is that just after 8 p.m., a maroon mini van approached the boy. The van door opened and a man in the van attempted to grab the child and pull him inside. The boy was able to break away and run to his mother. The van sped away and turned right on a side street and was initially reported to be headed north in Columbia, but an exact direction of travel is yet unknown.

Columbia police put out an All-Points-Bulletin to all neighboring law enforcement units to be on the lookout for a van matching the description.

Anyone with information or has addition information to report as to the identity of the driver of the van or saw something suspicious is asked to call the Columbia Police Department or dial 911"

I'm following the Monroe County Independent on FB. I think KSDK NewsChannel 5 had a post on FB about this too.

Columbia Daze was so fun tonight, it was such a happy day in the town, and to come home and find out a monster was on the same roads, stalking possible child prey... I'm not going to be able to sleep tonight. Thank God we are hearing about an attempt and not an amber alert.

What is this world coming too? I can't answer that one. A festival that is going to bring crazies in from out of town with a police force that was depleted protecting THAT, I can answer. I am curious how many dopers got away today in columbia, how many duis were issued today, while this town continues to worry about things that are becoming minor. Heroin is becoming enormous here, the ghetto is coming here, now child molesters. Until the people stand up and say, "we want a change while there it's still time," will there every be a change. Government should the fear the people, not the other way around.

Because it's everywhere. Name one town in America that nothing at all happens. COLUMBIA was that town (with the exception to an isolated, sadistic, murdering man and the dopers)...

Government is nothing. At the end of the day, you're not coming home to a house full of the government. It's a few of them working amongst themselves, for themselves. There are so many more people than what the government could ACTUALLY control if it came down to it. One tiny little crack and the government could crumble quickly.

People should stand up and say "I'm not taking any ****, don't mess with my family and don't mess with my town or you're toast" ..

Monroe County is better than this.. I just have to believe this will pass (once this guy is locked up), the crime, violence, fear of evil... it will pass. I don't care if the entire rest of the world is slipping, Monroe County IS better than this.
I will NOT change my life to live in even more fear of the dangers. We will continue to enjoy our lives, even if it means that at every moment of every day we will be watching our backs. Hearing that some guy was bold and evil enough to stalk the streets looking for a kid wandering off alone while our town celebrated life, puts a touch of anger in me that I can not explain. It's gotten personal, and it's ONLY a matter of time until this guy is caught, and rid of our town.

Speaking frankly, it would be the best place ever to commit a crime a crime in this town. An older gentleman was joking last night at the fair at how ridiculous for one of the police officers to be wearing a bullet proof vest in this town since it would never be needed. This false sense of security is what makes it perfect for criminals. People know residents think "nothing bad will ever happen here", and police have no experience in dealing with serious crime. Drugs are rampant and many many crimes are never solved. Keep your guard up fools.

Monroe County has held it's integrity until this point, because it was proven to be safe.

This is also the town where, every police officer will be at the scene of whatever because they are available to help. The fire department, the EMS people.. This is a town where one thing happens and EVERYONE is on it because they aren't being called to every corner of the city.

I'm thankful to the police for wearing those vests. After hearing about this guy being so close last night, the thought of learning how to use a gun and buying one crossed my mind. I'm glad there are people in this town brave enough to do what I never could. This is the type of town that sticks together in tough times.

Catch one bad guy, and make and example out of him. That's all it would take, and life goes back to what it's always been. But, I refuse to let this whole thing get any more of my day or peice of mind.. so

Please everyone, have a safe and happy weekend! The fall like weather is amazing :)

With such a good description I would be willing to bet the cops already know who this creeper is. In the age of social media the word is out and his description has been plastered all over FB. How many people out there drive a maroon caravan and have a mole next to their left nostril???? Someone (if not many people) know who this guy is, and I'm 99.999% positive that he has already been reported to the cops. They're either keeping a close eye on him, or he's on the run and they're looking for him.

Hasn't some creep been seen in Waterloo and Hecker trying to lure kids? It's not only here. A person who preys on kids can be anywhere and anyone. Never let your guard down.

Some adults put these kids up to this and I hope they are severely punished. That is nothing to joke about. Why would anyone even start something like that?

Appears kids made it up so they wouldn't get in trouble with their mother for not being where they were supposed to be.

I've been telling people that this was made up and looky here!!! Like I said what person is going to try to grab a kid blocks away from a crowded festival in the middle of day. Just like the kid that was "groped" at the walmart parking lot last year by some biker. I will bet that the kid made that up too. If it doesn't make sense...its not true!
