"I'm the pope. I will pray for the starving, homeless and needy of the world as I sit upon my golden throne".

I would almost think that Catholic's would want to spend Millions on helping the people, and focus less on their status. I'm sure it costs a lot to build a new church/school, but did it really need to cost as much as it did?

Hmmm God's "plan".

You judge that as mean? How many millions went into the building of the church? 2, 3,or 5 million? how many families could that feed?

Scrap the pope's golden throne for cash, feed the world. You think it's mean that I think the church is so A$$ BackWards, I think it's mean that the pope sits in his kingdom, preaching to the world while his followers (the priests) are molesting boys.

Where was Jesus when his "leaders" were raping children? Where was Jesus when the entire first grade class was murdered?! God's plan right? God has his plan, and to the catholic's that means looking down upon EVERYONE that doesn't blindly follow behind some anti-christ and raising money to be roll around with this sinful ways. I've been at service at this church, I've never felt such a presence of evil, mean spirited people in all my life.

But wait.. Isn't that why people are Catholic? Go be a terrible person in life, go to confession, all is well.

Kiss my "mean" and "clueless" a$$. You want to "judge button" me when you're following so blindly like sheep. My opinion is mine alone, and your Jesus (was supposed to) teach you not to judge ;)

so glad to see so many informed people commenting on here. good, old topix.

the catholic parish here in columbia has been facing a list of issues that has lead to the building of a new church. one is that the current church was costing a great deal to maintain because of its considerable age. another is that the congregation had quite simply outgrown the building. third, there was no more real estate to expand the growing community. the school is utilizing not only the main school building, but the old convent building, as well, and if there were ever any hope of growing the school, there would either need to be a whole new building on whole new land, or eat the already cramped parking lot and playground.

so the solution reached was to build a new, larger church. there's enough land to eventually build a new school on the property. is it expensive? sure. they've been raising money for it for a decade. but it wasn't done at the expense of charity. if you were involved in the church you are criticizing, you'd know that.

Perhaps not at the expense of charity, but could the money not have gone towards charity instead? Sure you need to expand, but that's like saying I need new underwear and going to Victoria's secret and spending 50 bucks on one fancy pair instead of going to Jc Pennys to buy something basic at 5 dollars. They both cover my a$$ just the same, they both last just as long, but one leaves me with nothing more to spend, and the other leaves me with 90% more money to spend on more important things.

I'd rather be "unaware" because I'm not involved in the church, than to be a part of the hypocrisy.

And if you're not a catholic, what business is it to you WHAT I think. I'd say a b!tch knows one when a b!tch reads from one, ey?

Do your kids go to public school? Because you can bet that your tax dollars could go for many things other than what is housed inside public school buildings. Quit the complaining. I would bet anything that the amount that YOU actually gave to charity last year is next to minimal.

Yes, my child goes to public school. I didn't want to take the chance of some perverted catholic putting their filthy hands on my child. I also wanted my child to think freely, as opposed the sanctimonious comformity of narrow minded sheep.

No where did I complain. I pointed out flaw in your church. Don't like it? Pray to Jesus for me, see how well that turns out for you!

The Associated Press estimated the settlements of sex abuse cases from 1950 to 2007 totaled more than $2 billion. BishopAccountability puts the figure at more than $3 billion in 2012. Addressing "a flood of abuse claims" five dioceses got bankruptcy protection.[21] Eight Catholic dioceses have declared bankruptcy due to sex abuse cases from 2004-2011"

How many millions of the Catholic's "largest non governmental charitable organization in the universe" were paid out to families that were raped by the men of your religion? Does that count as charity?

LOL well you better research the shear number of non catholic school teachers who physically and sexually abuse students. You are extremely ill informed.
