I beleive the turf is a great idea. The entire district will use the field. Not just the football team. Football and soccer actually bring money to the school. People pay each week to come watch a game. Yes the field did cost a huge chunk of money. But now we dont pay to maintain the field; dont pay to rent a field that we have no say in. Oerter would say when or if we could get on the field. We no longer have to worry about the kids driving to the field for soccer practice. If a fatal accident would have happened in the past, all of you would be on here complaining about how we need our own field so the kids would not have to drive. It took two men to maintain the field as well as the rest of the district. Now the only thing they do, drag it once a week which only takes one person 30 minutes. The field is being paid for by donations. a new QB club has been made and the proceeds they make will help pay for the field. The boosters are helping with the field. Look at all the work Luhr Bros did for FREE, look at the work Electrico did for FREE. The coaches and players were also out there helping do stuff so we wouldnt have to pay. Look at the community people who donated time for the field so it wouldnt cost anything. I know a town where the COMMUNITY wants a turf field and WILLING offer money to the field. No one complains about it.
To the people who think the money should go to the school itself, i can see your point. Yes school is to get a better education. To the parent who had a child without a parking spot, plans are being made for a new parking lot inbetween the HS and MS. Teachers who say they buy things on their own, thats their own fault. They are given money each year to buy supplies. Maybe they should manage their money better? We are still one of the smarter schools in the area and we have one of the nicest school around. Our custodians and maintanence men get paid the lowest amount but still get the work done. There is no room for an auditorium at the HS. We have one at the MS so use that. Turners has ample amount of room as does The Falls if you need more room.
To the people saying sports are about politics, some are right. Coach Horner is not like that though. He has started two sophomore linemen in the last five years because of their skill. A Jr QB over a Sr QB. A So linebacker over a Sr backer. The Sr then quit because he didnt get to play. The Sr had a mom working at the HS so he didnt care who he was playing. What im trying to say, he doesnt care who you are, how old you are, or what people say about him. He is going to put the best team on the field as he can. He is there to win and he wants to win. He is a great coach. And I HATE when people talk s*** on him. You people wouldnt come watch a losing team. So i think he does a great job.
So for all the people who arent happy about the field and have all these questions, go to the Board meetings and ask all these questions and concerns to the people who actually know. instead of hiding behind your computer.

so it used to take two men all the time to maintain the grass but now it only takes one guy 30 minutes a week to do it? so we can fire those two guys now and just contract cheaply for the once a week drag. think of all the money we will save with two less school employers!

So go ahead and fire those two employees. Then you have to contract a company to mow the grass at every school, contract a snow removal company, contract a company to do maintenance for every school. Our two mainenance men have a ton of work to do just for the two of them. Those two men were not solely worried about the field. And even if you would contract to drag the field, what kind of company would just only drag the field? You're gonna pay no matter what and it wont be cheap at all.

so the point about it saving time for the two men was totally meaningless because it won't save us any money? did you fail to understand that I was being sarcastic and thats what I was pointing out?
every point they make in favor of the turf is totally meaningless. saves two men time? BUT it doesn't save money. other people can use it? like nobody but football players were allowed to touch the grass field. saves maintainace costs? costs that will be equal to cost of the turf in about 30 years. this could go on and on but we all see the truth. some wannabe sports dads coughed up part of the money and we coughed up the rest for a field we didn't need. be a man and own it or be a bitch and keep trying bullshit us about what a great deal it is.

I remember when I started high school and the baseball team had a crap field with rocks all over it. Coach Detmer and the team worked for years improving the condition. Meanwhile coach I never had us practice on the football field except on Saturday walk thru but coach Byrd would take P.E. out there in the off season. I always thought are field sucked but I never thought I would see the day that this may people in the town would support the team. My congrats to coach Horner! A winning program can get you local immunity from infidelity and a new football field.

Hmmm:
I have never heard of parents giving money directly to the football program. People give to the entire sports program, aka the Boosters, which then help all programs out. I know someone who volunteers his time to help raise money for the program. He doesnt just hand coach I a check or anything like that. There is a golf tournament every year where the proceeds go to the field and help pay the cost. People who support the program, the kids, the sport, the school, or just like helping out are there and spend money which is used for a useful situation. I am guessing you arent one of those people and I understand. Not everyone likes sports thats fine. But I think the turf is a great idea. Some people support the field and thats great. I may not support the things you do but I dont sit on the computer and bitch about them. And just so its clear, Im not a wanna be sports dad. Im a kid who supports the high school and everything it does.

I fully support the right of sports dads to choose to raise money to buy a turf field. what I don't support is the rest of not having the right to choose not to donate money. If they payed out of thier own pockets for a luxury we did not need then thats thier choice and go for it. But the rest of us had our tax money taken for a luxury and we had no choice. Also another poster pointed out that it was never budgeted for so the money is being diverted from someplace else. I'll bet if the same thing happened to the football team the sports dads would crap a brick. What if we raised half the money for new band uniforms and instruments and took the other half out of the football budget? I guess the sports dads would have to say thats fine unless they are hypocrits.

actually my kids are all grown, one played band and one played football.
What I am is a TAXPAYER. I don't like them taking my tax money to make a few parents happy, regardless if its for the band or football. Now can you address the points I made?

Sometimes you get good posts from both sides in the spirit of integrity, and then you get Sports lover. I'm betting that he's had a few football and baseballs hit him on the head way to hard. If my son is brilliant at playing a saxaphone or drums, he's a pantywaste. So typical of a lughead wannabe superstar that apparently fell way short on intellgence. I can see him at the bar now...reliving old games and plays that no one wants to hear about. Kind of sad isn't it.

Actually I have heard with the new QB Club that the majority of the money will go to the football program and then whatever isnt used or needed will go to the other sports teams for the school. The band has their own booster club that is why they dont get as much help. They do get a little help from the school but since they dont have to support ten different teams they have to use most of their own money.

I love how everyone looks at ex athletes as dead beats who just sit at the bar and tell old stories? Thats not true in most cases at all. And this football field isnt just making a few sports parents happy. Some people in the community love the thought of the field and do not have kids in school anymore. Look at Ron from Ron's Pharmacy. Him and his wife do so much for the school and donate a ton of money. They dont have kids in school though. I know another father who did not go to CHS and now has a daughter who just graduated. However, he supports the school just because he likes the school. His daughter was in the band as well.

Funny how you say how people without kids going there support it. That is great, but there are some parents that have kids that play sports and are mediocre at best. But still make the teams because Daddy donated money to help build the Baseball field and donated money to the QB club. Shouldn't it be on the ability of the kid to make the team not the size of Daddy's wallet?

Yes you are right, the kids should be able to play not dads wallet. I look at the dads that were around when I played and yes they were involved. But then I look at their kids, dominate in all sports. I know kids who had parents who worked for the school and supported the teams and their child didnt play at all as well. Everyone says politics play a huge role. Most coaches though do not care who mom or dad is though. Give me an example when the kid didnt get to play because of the dads wallet. Coaches are around to win. If they dont win, they dont get a job. They are there to win as many games as possible. Sports bring in some money to schools and people arent gonna come watch a losing team. I know someone who got cut from the baseball. The coach however held two jerseys for players who were suspended for drinking. So coaches arent there to make mom and dad happy. They are there to win
