Does anyone know the rules for school buses picking up children. I called the transportation people at the scholl but they have not called back.
We live in the circle of the subdivision and the bus will not come down here to pick up the elementary kids. apparently they said it cost to much gas to drive the 1/8 of a mile (yet the bus can sit there idling while they walk to it?). The problem I have is that there are no houses between us and the bus so there are no sidewalks between us also. it just seems like if the kids have to walk in the road then the rules should make the bus come get them.
Does anyone know where to find the rules?

Ridiculous. You want the bus driver to ring your doorbell too? Maybe carry the kids backpacks for them? Have them walk the 1/8 mile, it will not hurt them. Sounds like there is no traffic on your street anyway.

How pathetic. If you are so concerned why don't you go walk them to the bus yourself to make sure they are ok. Are kids so fragile these days that they can't walk up the street. Oh no. Kids might have to do something for themselves. What a shame. Parents have kids so pussified these days.

Are the parents unable to teach the kids how to responsibly walk in the street to the bus. Is it the short bus picking them up?

wow, obviously men responding. only a man would think someone is a bad parent for not teaching little kids "how to properly walk in the street". a woman would teach her children not to be dumb enough to walk in the street. once again for you men, and I hope it sinks in, the two phrases "little kids" and "walk in street". do you see the issue?

Tammy hit the nail on the head. It's about the age of the kids involved. If the kids are too young to walk to the bus alone then an adult should be there to escort them. If there is no adult to walk them then who is watching them until the bus arrives? Stuff like this raises a lot of questions.

to get back to the finer point...the bus sits there in the road burning fuel while watching these kids walk down the road. it would burn the same or less fuel to simple pick them up. so the "wastes to much fuel" argument is invalid. as for the rest...seriously? you guys think its ok for kids to walk in the street? oh, my mistake, I forgot that having an adult with you makes it alright. Please. if its dangerous to do it is still dangerous with an adult. I don't care if you are Hulk Hogan, no adult can stop a car!

I am a mother of 5 grown children, and I agree with the men on this thread 100%. The issue is we have a parent too lazy to walk with their children and teach them how to walk ON THE SIDE of the road. Also, Jim didn't say the person is a bad parent, he said that parents today have turned children into a bunch of wimps, and he's absolutely right.

insults the children by implying they are mentally handicapped because they can't walk in the road.

So the argument is that if there are no sidewalks in the area, no one should have to walk anywhere? No, sorry, the bus does not have to come to tour door just because there aren't sidewalks. No sidewalks on my street, but I still survive the 2 block walk to fetch kids from the bus. And we are there waiting for the bus so it doesn't idle, which is how it's supposed to work. When did everyone get so lazy?

We should put the kids on a trolley.

so the kids should walk down the road and then stand in the road waiting for a bus to show up?
I left the east coast because it was full of people who did not care about anyone else. its so much nicer to move to columbia where the only people you don't care about are little children.

the funny part is that all the people I've met in columbia are great people, with the exception of the columbians on topix. they are always quick to dispense a smartass opinion but rarely have any actual information to share. want an example? look at how quick they were to give their opinion on the parents and children involved, yet not a single one actually answered the question I asked!

A. They aren't you kids,..(so you say).. so it really isn't your issue to post on topix about.
B. If they are little children, their parents should not be allowing them to "walk in the street" alone as it is. Is it too much for the parent to walk down the 1/8 mile?
c. Drive them to school if you are unhappy with the bus service offered. Topix will do NOTHING for you. It's really that simple.
